*UPDATE ON THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTION PETITIONS TRIBUNAL PLATEAU STATE*

*Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency*

*Hon Alh Muhammad Gwani Alkali (PRP) vs Hon Musa Agah (PDP).*

Thursday 24th August,2023.

Hon Musa Agah of PDP declared victorious as Member Representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.

The petition filed by Hon Alh Muhammad Gwani Alkali of the People's Redemption Party (PRP) against Hon Musa Agah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the emergence of Musa Agah as the winner of the House of Representatives election of the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections had been dismissed .

In the tribunal judgement delivered on Thursday 24th August, 2023 at High Court 6 Jos in suit: EPT/PL/HR/02/2023 Between Hon Alh Muhammad Gwani Alkali and PRP against INEC, Hon Musa Agah and PDP, the tribunal noted that after listening to the submissions of the petitioners and their counsels as well as the respondents and their counsels, it shall summarily decide on two issues, to wit:

*1* Whether the 2nd respondent (Musa Agah) was at the time of the election qualified to contest for the election as member Jos north/Bassa Federal Constituency

*2.* Whether the election can be said to have been conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

*The court held thus:*

*1* The responsibility of the tribunal is to determine whether or not a candidate was an independent candidate or sponsored by a political party, it is not the business of the tribunal to concern itself with whether or not the party has a structure as at the time of the nomination and sponsorship of a candidate.

*2*. Only party members or the party itself have the locus standi to challenge the nomination and sponsorship of a candidate. Besides, the issue of the nomination and sponsorship of a party candidate is a pre-election matter.

*3.* The petitioners failed to present any polling agents to prove the evidence of rigg

A three-year power transition plan proposed by Niger Republic’s military junta has been rejected by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Recall that Abdourahmane Tiani, Niger Republic’s self-declared head of state had said on Saturday, August 19, that the country will return to civilian rule within three years.

Reacting to the announcement on Sunday, August 20, Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS commissioner for political affairs said they will no longer accept prolonged transition periods in the region.

Musah said;

“Ecowas is not accepting any prolonged transition again in the region. They just have to get ready to hand over in the shortest possible time.

“The earlier they give power back to civilians and concentrate on their primary responsibility that is defending the territorial integrity of Niger, the better for them, Military aspect is very much on”.

PDP SUFFERS A MONUMENTAL SET BACK AT THE SUPREME COURT TODAY. 9 /5/23

All attempts by the People's Democratic Party in Plateau state to get their appeal heard at the Supreme Court this morning suffered a major set back.

This is because the Supreme refused to hear their motion for relisting it's appeal against the PLASEIC.

The supreme Court said it was not ready to take any contentious matter for now

The court consequently set aside the 11th of September 2023 to hear the matter.

With this development,it means that the judgement of the court of Appeal which says that
the PDP has no structure in Plateau state subsists.

Meanwhile with the position of the Supreme Court now,the APC is anxiously awaiting for the governorship election tribunal to commence it's sitting in a fortnight.

Presidential Poll Dispute: You Can’t Stand In For Tinubu, Court Tells Gov Lalong

The Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, barred Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State from standing before it as the representative of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The Plateau state governor had immediately the first petition that was lodged against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election was called up, stood up and announced himself as Tinubu’s representative.

“My Lord’s my name is Simon Lalong and I am here to represent Tinubu,” the governor stated.

However, Justice Haruna Tsammani led a five-member panel that declined to recognize him as Tinubu’s representative.

“You cannot represent an individual. Tinubu is not a corporation that would need a representative,” the presiding justice held.

“My Lords, in that case, I will represent the All Progressives Congress, APC,” Governor Lalong responded.

Meanwhile, the court has adjourned further pre-hearing session on the petition the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi filed to nullify Tinubu’s election victory till Wednesday.

Miyetti Allah Tasks APC On Inclusivess, Seeks Appointment, Employment For Fulani Patoralists

Fulani sociocultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal H**e has appealed to the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevail on the incoming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give fulani Patoralists their fair share in the art of governance.

The President of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo made the appeal when he paid the APC helmsman a congratulatory visit in Keffi over the victory recorded by the party in recently concluded presidential election on Saturday April 29.

According to Bodejo, Fulani patoralists played a key role in the victory, hence should be recognised and rewarded by the governing party.

He urged Senator Adamu-led leadership to “carry the Fulani pastoralists along in all ramifications as we also have graduates of any kind who have the capacity to hold any public office if given the opportunity”.

In a statement issued by its Spokesperson, Mallam Mohammed Tasiu Suleiman, said Bodejo was accompanied by other key executive members and stakeholders of the association.

In his response, Senator Adamu who commended the association for the visit and support to the party assured of inclusiveness and sense of belonging.

He said the incoming Bola Tinubu's administration is theirs, hence shouldn't relent in their support.

“Fulani pastoralists are like my family and as such, I will continue to embrace you as my brothers and sisters against all odds insha'Allah,” he assured.
