Organized Labour has given President Tinubu a deadline for the new minimum wage to be announced for workers.

NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE, IMO STATE COMMAND UPGRADES ISSUANCE OF PASSPORT

AS INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT SEEKERS HEAVE A SIGH OF RELIEF

A sigh of relief could be best described as an understatement compared to the expression of joy of applicants as the delay in the issuance of passport at the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service is now a thing of the past.

This is as a result of the proactive measures taken by the new Comptroller of the Command Mr Patrick Ebegbune and new Command passport officer, deputy Comptroller Mrs Ime Usoro.

It will be recalled that the Command was faced with various challenges, like shortage of passport booklets, power supply, network issue and validation of national identity card among other impediments which made the issuance of international passport in Imo cumbersome thereby creating undue delay, mixed feelings and serial jettisoning of services by Imolites who sought for the services outside the state.

Determined to reverse the ugly trend, the new management tackled the challenges headlong by providing 20kva capacity solar system and ensuring that passport booklets were supplied regularly to the Command.

These measures according to reports have greatly ameliorated the hitherto bottle necks in the issuance of passport among other services.

On investigation, it was discovered that there were no cases of outstanding passports in the Command since the assumption of Mrs Usoro as the new passport officer in the Command.
Speaking on the issue, the State passport officer, Mrs Usoro promised that the Command henceforth will no longer be found wanting on the issuance of passport and other immigration services in the Command.

The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has assured the residents of Okigwe, particularly the traders at Gariki Market Okigwe of their maximum safety and security. The CP gave this assurance during his visit to Okigwe for an on-the-spot assessment of the Market following the unwarranted attack in the area by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB and ESN.

The CP expressed sadness over the ugly incident while commiserating with the families of the victims and the market leaders. He assures them that the Command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are all arrested and brought to book.

In addition, Police Operatives in synergy with the Military and the local vigilantes are currently carrying out intensive operations in the area to clamp down on the hoodlums responsible for the senseless act of violence.

CP Aboki Danjuma urged the residents of Okigwe to go about their lawful businesses without fear as adequate security measures have been placed to forestall any future occurrence.

The CP implores them to continue to support the Police and other security agencies with actionable intelligence by reporting any suspicious person seen or clandestine activity observed within their vicinity to the nearest Police Station or via 08034773600 or 08098880197 as security is everybody’s business.

IMO HOTEL OWNERS PRAISE FG's BAN ON PATRONAGE OF HOTELS BY UNDERAGE GIRLS.

has gathered that Imo chapter of the Nigeria Hotel Association has praised the Federal Government’s ban on patronage of hotels, brothels and motels by underage girls.

The Chief Servant of the association in Imo, Mr Chima Chukwunyere said this while speaking with newsmen in Owerri, on Wednesday.

Chukwunyere was reacting to a decision of the Federal Ministry of Woman Affairs, conveyed by the minister, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye in a meeting held with the national leadership and state Chairmen of the association in Abuja, last Wednesday.

Chukwunyere said the minister frowned at the lodging, bullying and abuse of underage girls in hotels and placed a ban on their use of such facilities.

He added that hoteliers are advised to display a notice of prohibition of underage females from using their facilities and present the Federal Government Age Declaration form to suspected underage females to ascertain their real age before they check into hotels.

He called on all hoteliers in Imo to abide by the decision as serious sanctions

will be imposed on defaulters by a mobile court established across the states of the federation by the minister.
“ The minister, while addressing us harped on the need for holistic partnership with hoteliers across the country to shutdown brothels and checkmate the spate of abuse of underage girls in hotels and motels.

“ To this end, hoteliers must put their eyes to the ground to ascertain the actual activities of customers and device means of protecting young girls from perpetrators of child trafficking, drug abuse, sex for grades and other vices.

“On no condition should any student in school uniform be found in an hotel or similar facility where alcohol is sold, as such outfits, when found, shall be shut down and be made to face the mobile court “, he said.

Chukwunyere however added that although times were tough, hoteliers must synergise with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to ensure that lives of children are saved and their morals preserved.

KANU'S DETENTION: NIGER DELTA COMMUNITIES THREATEN TO CRIPPLE OIL PRODUCTION.

Communities in the Niger Delta have threatened to cripple oil production in the region if the Federal Government continues to remain adamant over the growing clamour for the release of the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu has remained in a solitary confinement at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS, since his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021.

But despite appeals and even Court orders for his unconditional release, the IPOB Leader currently standing trial before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, is yet to regain his freedom.

Speaking under the aegis of Association of Niger Delta Upland Communities, the oil-rich region, called on the Federal Government to quickly initiate moves for political solution to Kanu’s matter.

The association in a statement signed by its President, Isah Mohammed Obiri; and Secretary, Wisdom Oteyi, respectively, threatened to stop oil production in Niger Delta until Kanu who it said, is unjustly persecuted, is released.

A copy of the letter sighted by Vanguard read: “This is a prompt reminder to the Federal Government of Nigeria to acknowledge that our 14-days ultimatum is rapidly approaching. We remain steadfast in our commitment and determination to implement the plans we have outlined.

“Once again, we urge the Federal Government to initiate peaceful discussions with our leader for resolution.

“Please be informed that the Rumuekpe Manifold, which accommodates the storage of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, will continue to be non-operational until our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is released from the custody of the DSS facility.

has gathered that following the end of the tenure of Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah as the 6th Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) on June 30, 2024, the Senate of the University has elected Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution pending the inauguration of the University Council and the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Maikudi is a Professor of International Law and the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University.

Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, on January 31, 1983, she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

After her secondary school education, she attended the University of Reading and the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom, where she obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees, respectively. She also attended the Nigeria Law School, Abuja, for her call to the Bar and the University of Abuja for her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law.

In 2007, Aisha participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Corporate Secretariat and Legal Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In 2008, she joined the University of Abuja as a Lecturer and became the first female and youngest Head of the Department, Faculty of Law in 2014; the first female and youngest Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law in 2018; and the pioneer Director University of Abuja.

NDLEA CONVICTS GOOD NUMBER OF DRUG OFFENDERS IN IMO

has gathered that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has disclosed that it seized 2,639.27 kilograms of hard drugs, arrested 192 offenders and convicted 30 suspects in the last one year precisely from July 2023 to June 2024 in Imo State.

The Imo State Commander of NDLEA, Abdullahi Saeed, made this known while addressing newsmen as part of activities marking the 2024 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Owerri on Wednesday.

: FIRE RAZES DANGOTE REFINERY IN LAGOS

has gathered that a fire has reportedly broken out at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

According to reports gathered by Dockaysworld, emergency personnel are currently on-site working to put out the fire.

In a viral video, a thick smoke was seen emanating from a part of the yet-to-be-completed refinery.

Some workers at the refinery were also heard calling for help to prevent the fire from escalating.

The cause of the fire cannot be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

The refinery which is the world’s largest single-train refinery is owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

: TENSION IN IMO AS UNKNOWN GUNMEN ALLEGEDLY LAUNCH ATTACK.

Reports emanating from Okigwe indicate that there's palpable tension in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, following an alleged attack by unknown gunmen at Hausa Community popularly known as Gariki in Okigwe.

gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday night as they inhabitants of the Gariki community were attacked while they were asleep. It was ascertained that the Gariki community was set ablaze in the course of the alleged attack.

It was further learnt that the residents of the ancient town of Okigwe are in panic over what was described as constant gunshots heard almost on daily basis in the area.

Further findings made by revealed that the Nigerian military are carrying out Airstrikes in some of the communities at the outskirts of Okigwe, in a bid to address the issues of insecurity that the areas have been associated with for some years now.

If Your Gas Cooker Catch Fire, Don't Panic, Do These Things To Quench It.

Gas Explosion is now very rampant today. This is because of the increased use of gas cooker by people. There is no doubt that gas Cookers are easier, more neat to handle and faster than firewood or even stove. Almost all Nigerian homes are now using Gas Cookers because it is cheaper than using Kerosene.

But the major risk associated with using gas cooker is that it can lead to gas explosion which can claim the lives of thousands of people. If you use gas cooker, it is best you do everything in your power to avoid it. But if it happens, Don't Panic, Do These things to Quench it.

1. Find a Towel

Immediately your gas cooker catches fire, find a towel, preferably a big one. Add detergent to a bowl of water and immense your towel into the detergent.

2. Use the towel you soaked inside a bowl of detergent water and cover the gas cylinder.

3. This will make the fire to quench immediately.

But it is always best to avoid things from happening before finding remedies. So here are possible reason why your gas cylinder might catch fire.

1. The Use of a nozzle that is faulty

If you use a nozzle that is faulty, your gas will start leaking from there, which will result to explosion. So once your nozzle becomes faulty, change it.

2. When you fill your gas to the brim

If you gas cylinder is 20g and you fill it to 20g, it will start leaking. So never fill your gas cylinder to the brim.

3. Make sure your burner is not faulty.

NIGERIAN MAN SPEAKS ABOUT DAVIDO'S WEDDING TO CHIOMA AND THE IMPACT IT WOULD HAVE HAD ON SOUTH EAST ECONOMY

The trending video of superstar Davido and his traditional marriage (Igba Nkwu), to his wife, Chef Chioma, in Lagos, a location outside Igboland, reminds of how the fear of insecurity, banditry and kidnapping has negatively impacted the South-East economy.

I lived in Anambra state between 2014 to 2020 and witnessed first hand how events such as weddings, burials, title taking etc, boosted the local Anambra state economy. Such events had a trickle – down effect on the rural folks who provided sundry services as caterers, ushers, musicians, hotels, food vendors, drinks and canopy suppliers DJs etc. Street urchins, beggars and praise singers (ndi oti mkpu) also get in on the act.

Events still happen in the South-East but not anymore in great numbers as was the case previously. Many due to fear of being kidnapped chose to stay away from events in the South-East preferring to send financial support to the event organizers. Many also host such events in cities such as Lagos, Abuja etc. Poor attendance of events in the South-East is also not helped by the high cost of flights to the South-East which currently costs N150,000 one-way.

Organizing events in the South-East come with peculiar challenges. Your two eyes have to be wide open. We recently buried our matriarch in Anambra and spent huge resources on honorarium for members of security services including army, police, local vigilante and civil defence.

Some people when they brave it and fly into town to attend events are afraid to venture out at night, preferring day-time movements. On the day of our matriarch’s service of songs at Enugwu-Ukwu, we had so many guests holed up in their hotel rooms afraid of coming out to attend because they were afraid of what might happen. Two persons from among them had fallen victim to kidnappers in April 2024 while attending a friend’s father’s service of songs at Ukpo. They have not recovered from that terrible experience.

Thinking out aloud, had Chef Chioma’s traditional wedding taken place in her hometown in the South-East, and Davido was to bring in his celebrity friends, family and well wishers along, the impact on the local economy will be enormous.

It’s never too late for South-Easterners to retrace their steps. ‘Na we dey do our self’.

A concerned Imolite has taken his time to carryout an on the spot assessment of the former popular Okigwe National Grammar School (OKINGS) located at Umuna in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State. #StateofImo obtained a short video clip he made which showed the current deplorable condition of the school in its present site. Recall that Okigwe National Grammar School (OKINGS) was one of the most popular secondary schools in the Eighties and Nineties which produced so many personalities occupying various public positions at the Federal and different state levels. The school was then situated along the the Owerri-Okigwe road close to Imo River at Umuna before it was moved to another location by the Administration of former Governor Achike Udenwa when the proposed Faculty of Engineering Campus of Imo State University was sited at its original location. Unfortunately, after so many years #StateofImo can reliably report that the Faculty of Engineering Campus of IMSU is yet to take off at the Umuna Campus as the buildings erected there have continued to remain empty and deteriorate each passing day.
