NUC OKAYS JOSTUM FOR E-LEARNING PROGRAMME
By Grace A. Ebe

As part of efforts to kick off the e- learning programme in Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), A team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) paid a visit to the university on Tuesday 21st March 2023 to assess facilities and ascertain JOSTUM's preparedness to run the programme.

Presenting the Exit Report, the team lead Mr. Chigbogu Etu stated that the team have concluded their supervisory exercise and the intent is to be able to bring perspective to the institution in readiness for the e-learning programme. He commended the I.C.T unit for their efforts and readiness to kick off the programme.
Speaking on some challenges observed, Mr. Chigbogu highlighted that the university has no policy document which is a vital document that must be in place. However, he noted that reports from the I.C.T unit has it that arrangements are in the pipeline to ensure that the document is obtained. He also observed that the internet bandwidth of the I.C.T is 1 gigabyte which is insufficient, considering the large expanse of the university. He applauded the I.C.T for the smart boards that have been installed and the smart classrooms in place.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor who was ably represented by Prof. D.T Gundu expressed excitement and gratitude to the NUC team for a job well done. He appealed to the team to sustain the tempo of the supervision, to enable JOSTUM be ahead of other universities. Prof. Gundu also stated that a proposal to obtain a grant has been submitted by the university to enable it tackle the current challenges being faced. He assured the team that all hands will be on deck to facilitate the processes involved in starting up the e-learning programme and he gave his assurances to relay the discussions to the Vice Chancellor on his return.
