Osun policemen protest non-payment of their salaries, accuse Okada riders of sleeping with their wives

No fewer than 480 police constabularies have protested the alleged non-payment of their 18-month salary in Osun.

The constabularies recruited to complement the police structure by providing intelligence, among others were inaugurated in May 2021 at Police Headquarters, Osun State after their training in April 2021.

The protesting officers who were in their uniforms, converged on the Old-Garage area, marching through Oke-Fia, Alekuwodo before storming the Ola-Iya flyover to press home their demands.

They carried placards with several inscriptions such as: ‘Pay our salary now’; ‘Okada riders are sleeping with our wives’, ‘Pay us our 18-month salary’, ‘pay us’, ‘Our Stipends And Allowances’ and ‘18 months without kobo’ among others.

One of the leaders of the protesting policemen, Constable Tijani Adewale, said despite the non-payment of salaries they are committed to duties stressing that amid their predicament three Constabularies died while on duty. He lamented commercial tricyclists and motorcyclists have snatched their wives due to their inability to provide for them and their children.

“We have gone to the local government, honourable and dignitaries in the state yet no positive result. We lost three persons in Ikire and one in Iree. These people died in the course of discharging their duty.

We are very dutiful even though we have not been paid a dime. Due to unpaid allowances, tricycle and Okada riders have snatched our wives because of their inability to take care of them.” he said

Osun Police Commissioner Olawale Olokode later joined them at the Ola-Iya bridge and ordered them to stop the protest immediately. He assured them that the concerned authorities will intervene in the matter to solve their plights.

“You are embarrassing the force with your protest. You should have channelled your grievances to the appropriate quarters. You are disturbing public peace with this your protests. As far as you are wearing this uniform, we expect you to maintain high discipline as a force man” he said

On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.

Court Grants Ogun Assembly Speaker N300m Bail

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has granted bail to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, in the sum of N300m with two sureties in like sum.

Justice Daniel Osiagor on Tuesday granted bail following no objections from the EFCC.

It was earlier reported that the Speaker was arraigned over alleged N2.5bn money laundering charges.

The counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Rotimi Oyedepo had told the court that he would leave the issue of bail solely within the discretion of the court.

The counsel to the Speaker, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), on his part asked the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.

In granting bail to the Speaker, Justice Osiagor held that one of his sureties must be not less than a level 16 officer in the Civil Service while the other must possess landed property within the courts jurisdiction.

The court granted the second and third defendant bail in the sum of N100m with two sureties also in like sum.

One of their sureties must not be less than a level 14 Officer in the Civil Service. The other must also possess landed property within the courts jurisdiction.

All the sureties are to possess three-year tax clearance and swear to an affidavit of means.

All defendants are also to deposit their travel documents with the registrar of the court.

Pending when they meet their bail conditions, the defendants will be remanded in the custody of the EFCC for a week after which they will be transferred to the Abeokuta Division of the court for further orders on their remand.

NOTHING LIKE INSECURITY IN NIGERIA AGAIN - LAI MUHAMMED

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, yesterday assured Nigerians that the worse of insecurity was over in the country.

Mohammed hinted that although there might still be pockets of attacks or kidnap cases witnessed across the country, they will never be as bad as it used to be.

The Minister spoke yesterday at a joint press briefing with three other heads of Ministries, including Minister of Defence, Bashir Salihi Magashi; Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi; Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as well as the Chief of Defense Staff, on the security situations in the country.

There were also chief executives of agencies under the Ministry of Interior in attendance.

The Minister said: “Today, we are here to tell you that while we may not be there yet, our military and other security agencies have succeeded and are succeeding in substantially restoring security across the nation.

“As far as the daunting security challenges we face are concerned, we can tell you that the worst is over. Never again will terrorists and
bandits and their cohorts hold sway in our country.

“President Buhari’s directive to the military to crush those terrorising our citizens is working, hence peace and security are gradually being restored to the country.

LAST - MINUTE CONTRACTS CAN'T SAVE ABIODUN - PDP GOV CANDIDATE

“The Peoples Democratic Party Governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, has said no amount of last-minute appointments or award of contracts can save the state governor, Dapo Abiodun from defeat in the 2023 election.

Adebutu stated this on Sunday while speaking in Abeokuta at the unification meeting with new defectors from the All Progressives Congress, African Democratic Congress, Labour Party, and Allied People Moment.

The PDP governorship candidate faulted Abiodun’s recent appointments, consultations, and awards of road contracts.

Abiodun had appointed seven new commissioners and a deputy chief of staff. He also approved some road projects across the state ahead of the coming election.

Abiodun also approved the appointment of Liaison Officers for the 20 local government areas of the state and reconstituted boards of all the tertiary institutions in the state after three years.

But, reacting to the fresh appointments, Adebutu said no amount of consultation, last-minute appointments and approval of road contracts can save Abiodun from suffering the same fate Osun state governor Gboyega Oyetola suffered at the polls.

“This is a situation that you can describe as crying after spilt milk. The state has seen the truth. He (Abiodun) is just running around and crying, it is too late for him.

“Where was he (Abiodun) three years ago? He didn’t make these appointments that he is now making. he didn’t do these consultations three years ago, he is now making appointments when the tenure of his government is at the tail end.

“Why did he not care for the people for the last three years? He didn’t care for the hospitals, he did not care for the schools, he did not care about the roads three years ago and now he is doing palliatives, running up and down. All these are cosmetic surgeries, it is too late”, Adebutu said.

He insisted that, PDP is the only party that can save the state from what he called the “maladministration of APC”.

The chairman of the party, Sikirulai Ogundele while receiving the decampees, urged them to unite and work together in removing APC from power in 2023.

The screening exercise will be done online.

ENUGU APC GUBER CANDIDATE REJECTS TINUBU'S CAMPAIGN FUNDS

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State, Uchenna Nnaji, on Sunday, said that the current crisis rocking the party was predicated on the campaign money for the state.

Nnaji, who spoke at an emergency stakeholders meeting held at the South-East zonal office of the party, said if the anticipated campaign fund from the APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, would be a source of destabilisation for the party, the fund should instead be withheld until after the election.

“The current crisis in Enugu APC is all about Tinubu’s Campaign money. The so-called stakeholders are fighting to be in charge and preside over the disbursement of Tinubu’s money.

“We don’t want the campaign money of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu to prosecute the 2023 general election in Enugu State. By the special Grace of God, we will use Enugu APC resources to prosecute the election in 2023 and after the election, the party will refund us. It is Tinubu’s money that is causing the crisis in Enugu APC.

“After this emergency meeting, I will go to Abuja tomorrow (Monday) to tell the national chairman of the party that we don’t want campaign funds. On Tuesday I will meet our presidential candidate, Tinubu and I will tell him the same thing.”

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has been demoted to the U23’s squad.

The 30-year-old defender has played 229 times for United across competitions since moving to Old Trafford over 10 years ago.

Jones has helped united win the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.

The Sun reports, that Jones, along with Brandon Williams and Alex Tuanzebe, have been told to move to the U23s’ dressing room instead.
