Friday Godwin goes fondly with the stage name, "HAVILLA". He currently serves in his local assembly, Grace evangel mission.

Friday Godwin is a passionate and skilled musician whose musical prowess is expressed in his unique style of music.

His motivation and source of inspiration of the Holy Spirit who drives his passion for souls and desire to reveal Christ to a people.

Over the years, he has shared platforms with the likes Sunday badu, Osinachi and many great ministers. He's currently working on realeasing and album titled "Lily of the Valley".

Friday Godwin will be ministering at "LIVING WATERS". A program to stir a powerful move in Surulere and rebirth a revival in the hearts of God's people.

Jazz music first appeared in the late 19th and early 20th-century. It was when American and European styles of music were exposed to African folk music and culture, creating the new music genre that we know as “jazz.”

Jazz evolved drastically over the years, with artists creating their own altered styles. From Louis Armstrong to Miles Davis, from Duke Ellington to John Coltrane, from John Mclauhglin to Julian Lage, let’s go over “the high art tradition,” commonly known as jazz music.

The music of New Orleans, Louisiana had a profound effect on the creation of early jazz. In New Orleans, slaves could practice elements of their culture such as voodoo and playing drums.[40] Many early jazz musicians played in the bars and brothels of the red-light district around Basin Street called Storyville.[41] In addition to dance bands, there were marching bands which played at lavish funerals (later called jazz funerals). The instruments used by marching bands and dance bands became the instruments of jazz: brass, drums, and reeds tuned in the European 12-tone scale.

The First American Opera Singer

LEONTYNE PRICE

Leontyne Price, (born February 10, 1927, Laurel, Mississippi, U.S.), American lyric soprano, the first African American singer to achieve an international reputation in opera.
Both of Price’s grandfathers had been Methodist ministers in Black churches in Mississippi, and she sang in her church choir as a girl. Only when she graduated from the College of Education and Industrial Arts (now Central State College) in Wilberforce, Ohio, in 1948 did she decide to seek a career as a singer. She studied for four years at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she worked under the former concert singer Florence Page Kimball, who remained her coach in later years. Her debut took place in April 1952 in a Broadway revival of Four Saints in Three Acts by Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein. Her performance in that production, which subsequently traveled to Paris, prompted Ira Gershwin to choose her to sing the role of Bess in his revival of Porgy and Bess, which played in New York City from 1952 to 1954 and then toured the United States and Europe. The year 1955 saw her triumphant performance of the title role in the National Broadcasting Company’s television production of Tosca, and she dang leading roles in other operas on television in the next few years.

Despite this great success, her debut at the Metropolitan Opera (the Met) in New York City was deferred until January 1961, when she appeared there in the role of Leonora in Il Trovatore. After a brilliant performance she became one of the Met’s leading regular sopranos. Her later roles there included Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Liu in Turandot.
