Delta Gov't Solicits Tanker Driver's Support Over Indiscriminate Parking

The Delta State government has solicited the support of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), over the continued indiscriminate parking along the Ekpan axis of the NPA Expressway.

Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Ambgaduba and his transport counterpart, Engr. Oviemuno Oghoore, in a meeting with oil and gas stakeholders at the Government House Annex in Warri, on Thursday, called for the need to find lasting solution to the menace.

The meeting which discussed among other issues, challenges faced by the various unions had other top government functionaries in attendance.

Amgbaduba emphasized that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, is working hard to ensure a safe and friendly environment for Deltans, particularly those in the petroleum sector.

It will be noted that the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency (WUEDA) in December, embarked on massive cleaning of its mandate areas, including removal of tankers parked illegally along the NPA Expressway.

However, the indiscriminate parking of petroleum trucks seems to have returned in the past couple of weeks, thereby frustrating the efforts of the agency.

Appealing to the stakeholders to give necessary support by cooperating with the state government, the commissioner noted that complying with the vision to rid the highway of the menace will enhance their own operations.

Reacting to the comments, the tanker drivers urged the state government to clear the illegal motor park under the overhead bridge leading to the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company.

According to the drivers, due to the congestion from buses and tricycles at the spot, it is always difficult for the trucks to make U-turns.

The meeting further saw an inspection of the Tankers Park in NigerCat area of Ekpan community, by the commissioners
