HONORING : HIGHEST CLERGYMAN AND AKURE PROUD SON
The Rt.Revd Dr. Simon Oluwole Borokini is the 1st indigene of Akure Town to be made a Bishop in the Church of Nigeria,Anglican Communion since Christianity got to Akure in 1897.
The Rt .Revd Dr. Simon Oluwole Borokini is the Bishop of Akure Anglican Diocese.He was born on the 15th,of July 1956 into family of Mr.& Mrs.Joseph O. Borokini (Late Revd),both of blessed memory and He’s a native of Akure Kingdom.He is the first of six children.
He started his elementary school at St. Stephen’s Anglican primary school,Akure and later went with his parents to Idi- Iroko,Ogun State,his father being a missionary;he completed his primary at Idi- Iroko, ‘The border town’ in Ogun State between 1968 and 1969.
After which,he proceeded to Lisabi Grammar School,Abeokuta between 1970-72 where his uncle,the late Archdeacon J.K. Borokini took up the funding of his education.He later transfer to Molusi College in 1973 where he completed his Secondary Education in 1975.In September 1979 he gained admission into Immanuel College of Theology,Ibadan where he completed his theological training in 1982.He later went to the University of Ibadan,Ibadan for his Degree Programme in Religious Studies between 1983 and 1986.In 1989,he went for his Master’s Degree in Religious Studies at the University of Ibadan and finished in 1990.He holds a Ph.D in Religious Studies of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He started his ministerial assignment as a curate under the retired Bishop J.O.K.Olowokure who at that time was the Vicar of All Saints’ Anglican Church, Ogbonkowo,and Archdeacon of Ondo Archdeaconry.
The Rt.Revd. Dr. Simon Oluwole Borokini was posted to Archbishop Vining College of Theology,Akure in 1990 as a Senior Lecturer after he completed his Master’s Degree programme.He served for fifteen years as a lecturer and as the Registrar of the college.He gained admission while in the College into the University of Geneva, Switzerland for ano
