We wish to appreciate the three participants at the contest.

We wish to also state that there were others who entered for this contest, but these are the only ones that are worthy of this final stage.

The winner has received her prize money of N5000 and in our own little way, we have appreciated the other contestants because they made this fun.

Thank you everyone, see you at the next edition.

Be good.

AND THE WINNER IS....

Please take time to understand how the stories were judged.

Understanding of the theme 20%
The simple RULE is a MIXTURE of ENGLISH and IGBO Dialogue, but most of the writers did that in their entire story and not on the dialogues.

An example is: Okeke glanced carefully at the udara tree while his girlfriend Mgbeke stood beside him.

"If you don't get me udara today, bia mesa m aka this night ka m hu nu", she said, grinning like a kid who is about to punish his father.

Failure to obey this rule shows the writer does not understand the basics of theme of the contest.

Organization 20%

How well did they organize their stories; in paragraphs and how well did they play with words as well as the number of errors on each story, based on the first rule.

Story 20%
How interesting is the story they have told. how well were they able to captivate the judges.

Readability 10%
How easy is it to read the story? especially with mixture of English and Igbo language.

LIKES
The number of valid likes before the end of the contest. 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions receive 30, 20, 10 points respectively.

Total 70% (FROM JUDGES) + 30% (from LIKES) = 100%

THE VERDICTS .......................................

STORY ONE By Ebenezer God'sGrace

1. No single dialogue
2. Igbo and English sentences means the author lacks understanding of the theme, which says a mixture of English and Igbo dialogue.
3. The author has also told a good story
4. The author forgot to title the story
5. Readability is fair for the story
6. Despite these, the story won the highest number of likes which is 30%

Understanding of the theme 20% - 5%
Organization 20% - 10%
Story 20% - 15%
Readability 10% - 5%

Total 25% + 30% (Likes) = 55%
.............................................................

STORY TWO By Vivian Oluchi 53%

1. Author used Nneahia for both husband and wife, which will confuse readers.
2. Only one dialogue means the author does not fully understand the theme.
3. Autocorrect might have punished the author, but she is still guilty of having lots of wrong words in wrong places and they reduced the readability of the story.
4. Ending of the story is weak and could have been better, which makes it a weak story entirely
5. A good story but was marred by wrong words.
6. The story won the second highest number of likes which is 20%

Understanding of the theme 20% - 10%
Organization 20% - 10%
Story 20% - 10%
Readability 10% - 3%

Total 33% + 20% (Likes) = 53%
.............................................................

STORY THREE By Unanka Ursula Chiaka

1. Plenty dialogues shows the author to an extent understands the theme, yet has failed to mix Igbo and English in any of the dialogues
2. The story is an easy read and flows. Good one.
3. Right choice of words and there are but just few mistakes in the entire story.
4. Avoiding Igbo language in the sentences/descriptions puts the author in safe position
5. the story won the least number of likes, which is 10%

Understanding of the theme 20% - 13%
Organization 20% - 14%
Story 20% - 15%
Readability 10% - 7%

Total 49% + 10% (Likes) = 59%

By this, STORY THREE By Unanka Ursula Chiaka wins

STORY 3

The white man business

By Unanka Ursula Chiaka

Chima sat there in devastation as he couldn't believe that a man as old as Mazi Obasi could reject such nice offer.

"Ndewo nụ ọ!"Chima greeted as he stepped into Mazi Obasi's compound with the white man, earlier that day.

Mazi Obasi, who was uneducated and in his early seventies, have stepped out of his hut to see who was greeting.

"Nnọọ nụ" He responded as he cheerfully presented his hand for handshakes as the exchanged pleasantries.

"Nọrọ nụ oche biko, ka m nwetara ụnụ ọjị ụmụ nne m" He said as he directed them to sit while he turned back into his hut. "Mazi, biko hapụ ọjị, ọ dị anyị osisọ" Chima responded and signaled him to sit after which the white man began to explain why they have come.

"My name is Nick Jones from America. I have a business proposal that will change your life and that of your children" The white man started in his sing-song voice with Mazi Obasi looking at him with confusion as he couldn't understand a word he said. Chima chuckled in mockery and then explained to him in Igbo Language.

The white man continued, "In this business, any money you invest will be doubled within five days. For example, if you invest five thousand naira you will get ten thousand naira in five days. Many people in this village have invested already and are enjoying its dividends." He concluded and again, Chima interpreted in Igbo to Mazi Obasi.

Mazi Obasi have heard stories of how Chima and the white man have been going round the village duping some gullible villagers. He let out a dangerous smile at them and shock his head.

"Ọ dị mma." He said and then turned slightly to face Chima.

"Oke soro ngwere maa mmiri, ya kọọ ngwere ọ ga akọ oké? He added as he stood up and went into his hut without adding another word while they watched him in confusion.

You're not tied to anyone. Stay alone if you can't live with someone.

Infidelity is but a moral crime, so strangling, stabbing, shooting or poisoning your partner will only make you a murderer.

Leave him or her and move on with your life, it's better to create the stress of choosing where to spend holidays for your kids, than making them know their parents are gone for their stupidity.
