RCCG City of David parish excluded as family releases 6-day burial rites for Wigwe, wife, son

The family of the late Herbert Wigwe, the former group chief executive officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, has announced arrangements for his burial rites.

The banking guru with his wife, Chizoba, and son died in a chopper crash in the US on February 9.

According to the funeral announcement, the Wigwes will begin with a celebration of the professional legacy of the former GCEO of Access Holdings at the Eko Hotel in Lagos on March 4, and will end with an outing service at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers, on March 10.

The lives of Chizi and Chizoba will be celebrated in separate ceremonies scheduled for March 5 at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, before a night of tribute a day later at the same venue.

A combined service of songs will be held on March 7 at the RCCG, Resurrection Parish, Lekki, followed by a Christian wake-keeping at Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers.

The combined funeral and private internment service are scheduled for March 9.

The City of David parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God where the late Wigwes worshipped was conspicuously excluded from the burial programme after the senior pastor’s wife, Siju Iluyomade, held a talk of the town birthday party days after his demise. Many Nigerians have argued that the cleric’s wife who was like a spiritual mother to the Wigwes should have postponed her birthday party due to the unfortunate incident.

His Excellency, Our Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori has very good intentions for Deltans through the MORE Agenda!

I was at ozoro on Wednesday, 21st of February 2024, where alot of women, youths and students were seen protesting against the relocation of some faculties from the Delta State University of science and technology Ozoro.

As an Isoko man who believes in the MORE Agenda of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori , I was moved to approach the protesters, to appeal to them to maintain calm and not take laws into their hands while exploring all legal channels of discussion. They were quite very peaceful and well coordinated in their protest.

It's also very important to note that His Excellency, Our Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori has very good intentions for Deltans irrespective of tribe, religion or social background and he is passionate in ensuring that the overall goal of the MORE Agenda is to entrench meaningful development, create opportunities for all, bring reforms that will boost productivity and most ultimately enhance peace and security amongst the different ethnic groups im the state.

Peaceful protests are part of democratic processes, and are not out of place when done within the ambits of the law. However, there is need to give room for fruitful and reasonable discussions and I believe His Excellency, is already aware of what is happening and is on top of the matter.

Ohaneze Ndigbo has warned Igbos against joining protests against hardship in the country.

This was conveyed in a statement signed by the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and titled “Message to all Igbos worldwide”.

It was noted that Igbos have been “victimised” over the failure of APC to win in Lagos and Abuja, and there is a conspiracy to ‘cripple Igbo business enterprise in Lagos, Abuja and other parts of Nigeria.’

It read;

“I write as your leader at this critical period in our Country, Nigeria. Events in Nigeria today are no doubt very disturbing. The economy has turned very bad, a sceptre of frustration is everywhere.

“I have received many entreaties from many parts of the Country requesting me to call Igbos to join in demonstration and violent action in the Country against the Government.

“As your leader, I am directing that no Igbo group or community in Nigeria or in Diaspora should join in this action. I am still studying the situation. I have asked Nigerians who approached me the following questions, what did they do when the past government disfranchised Igbo land?

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abuja zone, said it has lost 46 members due to the current economic hardship in the country, alongside poor remuneration of academicians and universities in the zone.

The Abuja Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Salihu Muhammed Lawal, who disclosed this while briefing journalists on Monday, February 19, 2024, in Abuja, said the union lost several members due to herculean working conditions, psychological and emotional stress and diseases related to poor working conditions.

“In fact, just two days back the union lost an eminent Professor of Fisheries, Johnson Oyero, of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, due to inability to afford quality medical care,” Lawal said.

The 46 deceased academics are from the University of Abuja; Federal University of Technology, Minna; Federal University, Lafia; Nasarawa State University and Ibrahim Babaginda University, Lapai, Niger State.

“In the last decade, more Nigerian academics are leaving the country in droves in search of greener pastures, thereby overworking the patriotic ones that remain in the system whose level of patriotism is dwindling on a daily basis due to poor remuneration and working conditions,” he said.

Barau hails Tinubu for Releasing Grains, to Distribute Rice to 200,000 Households, Urges Governors, LG Chairmen to Follow Suit

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ordering the release of 102,000 tonnes of rice, maize, millet and others to address the high cost of food in the country.

The Federal Government had through the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, headed by the Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, ordered the release of 102,000 tonnes of grains to Nigerians.

Hailing President Tinubu for the directive, the Deputy President of the Senate, said the move would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the rising cost of commodities in the country.

Senator Barau, in a statement, urged states and local governments to emulate the federal government by releasing grains to the needy in the country.

On his own, Senator Barau said in the coming days he would distribute rice to 200,000 households as part of his contributions to address the challenge.

“At this trying period, we should all support the federal government to address the challenges our country is currently facing. As we all know, the rising cost of food is a global phenomenon and our country is not unaffected by it.

"It is against this background, that I implore states and local governments to distribute food items to those in need across the country to cushion the effects of the rise in cost of food items,“ he said.

*CAIRO OJOUGBOH IS DEAD*

The Akinuwa of Agbor Kingdom, Chief (Dr) Cairo Ojougboh, is dead.

Sources has it that Ojougboh gave up the ghost as soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria , during the AFCON match with South Africa on Wednesday's semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory coast.

Super Eagles Captain, William Troost-Ekong had scored a penalty at the 67th minute for Nigeria, before the Nelson Mandela's kinsmen were awarded a spot-kick.

Their equaliser came after Nigeria thought they had scored a second goal through a tap-in from 2023 African best player, Victor Osimhen.
The play was called back after VAR alerted the Egyptian referee that South African Percy Tau, was fouled in the 18-yard box of Nigeria, leading to the abortion of Osimhen's goal.

Although there is no clear detail on his death, but rumours revealed that Ojougboh died as soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria in favour of South Africa.

The game, however, ended with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory in favour of Nigeria, sending the Super Eagles to the final of the tournament.

Cairo Ojougboh was an All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Director General of the Coalition For Peace and Unity, and former member of the Federal House of Representatives, having represented Ika Federal Constituency.

May his soul rest in peace.

07/02/2024

An Enugu State High Court has sentenced Chiamaka Ifezue to d£ath by hanging for the m¥rder of a 27-year-old makeup artist, Ijeoma Nneke.

The court presided over by Honourable Justice Kenneth Okpe, in a two-hour judgement on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, found the accused, Chiamaka Ifezue, guilty of k!!ling the victim by forcing her to drink a p@isonous substance.

Recall that Ijeoma went missing after leaving home for a job on November 11, 2020.

Her mutilated c@rpse was later found around Maryland in Enugu metropolis on November 16.

Ifezue and her brother, Chukwuemeka, were arrested and arraigned before the court on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and m¥rder in 202.

They were accused of forcing Nneke to drink a p@isonous substance that caused her death.

The suspects allegedly dumped her body in the Maryland axis of the Enugu metropolis and poured a corrosive substance suspected to be acid on it

During the trial, Justice Okpe discharged Chukwuemeka following a no-case submission pleaded by the defence counsel, Mr Chuma Oguejiofor.

In discharging Chukwuemeka, the trial judge held that there was no evidence that he participated in the crime.

However, delivering the final judgement on the case, Justice Okpe said the prosecution proved the case of m¥rder against Ifezue beyond a reasonable doubt

The court agreed with the submissions of Chinelo Chigbo, who led the prosecution from the Department of Public Prosecution, that the suspect was responsible for the death of the 27-year-old makeup artist based in Enugu.

The court consequently found Ifezue guilty of m¥rder and sentenced her to d£ath by hanging.

During the trial, the court admitted in evidence police exhibits on the case of the alleged murder of the makeup artist.
