The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has appointed Umar Damagum, to oversee the affairs of the party in acting capacity. National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, announced this at a press conference on Tuesday, at the party’s secretariat. A Nigerian, Solomon Ekunke Okpe, has been sentenced to four years in an American jail for taking part in online scams that targeted US citizens and banks, leading up to $1 million in losses to victims. The 31-year-old was handed the prison term after being extradited from Malaysia, where he was arrested, to the US to stand trial. The US Department of Justice, while announcing the sentence said Okpe and his accomplices “devised and executed business email compromise (BEC), work-from-home, check-cashing, romance, and credit card scams” between 2011 and 2017…...

Deposit Money Banks are set to raise their cash withdrawal limits from the current N20,000-N50,000 range to over N80,000-N100,000, according to multiple bank officials. The move, it was learnt, would help bank branches to tackle lingering queues in some cities across the country. A total of 922 cholera cases have so far been recorded in Nigeria and 32 of them succumbed to the disease in 2023. This is according to the latest situation report obtained from the World Health Organisation. The Case Fatality Rate is at 3.5 per cent as of March 5, 2023. Banks opened their doors to weary customers to withdraw cash on Saturday in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive. A 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses has shot and killed a nine-year-old girl and a local television employee in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday. A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Tajikistan on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said. The quake struck around 5:37 am local time (0037 GMT) at a depth of about 20.5 kilometres (12.7 miles).
