We received with displeasure news of the ugly incident that transpired at Utsokwili village in Auchi on Friday where a son of Iyakpi South-Ibie was inhumanly mobbed in the most gruesome manner.

This is not a representation of Auchi Sacred Kingdom as we believe that once anyone draws breath in our territory, such person becomes and remains an Auchi citizen and must enjoy what our people enjoy in fairness for as long as s/he stays.

We do not see this as a wrong done to an outsider as the unfortunate death of Suleman Abdulganiyu in the hands of an angry mob is a collective loss because he was until his death an Auchi man by virtue of his being in Auchi (a home of hospitality).

The truth of the matter will be unravelled and we strongly sue for peace through patience just so that the appropriate authorities who have been contacted to handle the case record success in good time.

Consequently, our Chief Security Officer has been promptly mandated to work with the Nigerian Police and other sister security agencies to get to the root of the matter and most importantly, get justice for the aggrieved and the deceased.

As we cooperate with the authorities in charge of handling this case, all parties are strongly advised to stand by the truth as truth is the father of justice.
Note that Allah's curse shall be upon those who would rather lie to conceal the truth at the detriment of our collective coexistence in peace and tranquility.

All who are currently pained in the occasion of this loss should exercise restraint, patience as reprisals have never done any good anywhere in the world.

Be rest assured that we are together in this trying time and by God's Grace, we shall pull through together in cooperation and in good neighborliness.

It has been established that Sports helps an individual's mental stability much more than in the physical aspects alone. It builds character, teaches and develops strategic thinking, analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking, just to name a few.

Sports enhances confidence and has taught a lot of people on how to be effective communicators. It has given athletes purpose while positively fuelling their self-esteem. It has forced men and women to appreciate both the victories and losses, despite not knowing it at the time, and it has led us to some of the most amazing friendships.

The role of sports in bringing down the illegal migration curve, as well as other social vices like gender-based violence, cannot be overemphasized.

According to Shaibu, while speaking at the event, " Edo has gone beyond irregular migration, and we are using sports as a tool for the promotion of the girl child while discouraging irregular migration "

He noted that Edo state is redefining sports development with a view to dissuading the menace of illegal migration, in collaboration with LaLiga and the NWFL. Highly elated Shaibu also noted that Edo state remains the only state in Nigeria and indeed, the world where there is pay parity between the male and female football.

RELIGIOUS FANATICISM IN NIGERIA: A CANCEROUS AILMENT AND MAN'S INHUMANITY TO MAN

God as the most supreme being is indeed too big enough to make His own arguments without religious fanatics. Yet, there are those in the world today, particularly in the Northern part of Nigeria, who shroud their hatred for others in the cloak.

It is a pejorative designation used to indicate uncritical zeal or obsessive enthusiasm which is related to one's own, or one's group's, devotion to a religion – a form of human fanaticism which could otherwise be expressed in one's other involvements and participation, including employment, role, and others.

A study done in 2014 by the Journal of Religion & Health showed higher rates of mental health issues in those who worshipped a vengeful God, than those who followed a deistic or kindly god. Respondents suffered more from social anxiety, paranoia, obsessive thinking, and compulsions.

Nigeria needs to address the problem of religious fanaticism and insecurity urgently and efficiently if any meaningful progress should be made in its national development pursuit, and if our leaders at various levels keep handling this with levity, then we are gradually sliding into anarchy.

May the soul of Deborah, a Christian Lady, who was allegedly beaten and stoned to death yesterday, by Muslims in Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, rest in perfect peace.

Christian Woman Burnt To De@d In Sokoto For "Insulting" Mohammed

“A Christian female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto has been murdered on Thursday morning.

She was killed by Muslims who accused her of alleged blasphemy.

Leadership Newspaper reported that the deceased, identified only as Ms Deborah, was accused of passing unflattering comments about Prophet Mohammed on the college campus.

Following immediate threats to her safety, she was immediately evacuated to the security post of the school, according to a student who witnessed the development.

But the mob pursued her to the security post and overpowered the personnel on duty.

A video of how she was murdered and set ablaze has already gone viral on the social media.

Authorities of the college have issued a statement announcing immediate closure of the school over the fracas that broke out following the incident.

As part of preparations ahead of the forthcoming Okpekpe 10km road race billed to hold on May 28, 2022, the sportscentric deputy governor of Edo state had yesterday declared open the World Athletics 5-day technical officiating training course, which kicked-off in a grand style and colourful manner at the Ultramodern Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, yesterday, being May 9, 2022, in Benin city, the state capital.

Recall that Sports have been adjudged as formidable force for good at the national level, positively contributing to the formation of national identity. They also engender national unity and are an important mechanism of foreign policy, as they offer a unique arena through which diplomatic relations may be pursued, and this what the digital deputy governor has been working assiduously and creditably well to achieve for the good people of Edo state, and Nigeria at large, which has earned him laurels at the state, national and international levels, particularly the recent recognition by the world Football governing body, the Federation of International Football Association ( FIFA).

In his remarks at the event, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu said, "I want to thank the Sports Commission, the AFN and the World Athletics for this privilege of not only hosting but approving the training for all the participants for certification as technical officials.

For us in Edo State, we cannot be a destination for sports in the country when none of us is officiating in the competition, it's an aberration.

When we say we want to be a destination for sports, we mean everything about sports including playing, officiating, facilities and all that makeup sports, we want to be the destination and place ourselves as resource persons in the development of sports in this country. The government has been on recess for a long time and we are almost losing that touch, that natural geographical God-given talents.

We have come to reorganize and coordinate God-given talents and use our location as an advantage in not only hosting but also creating an environment that in anything sports, you must seek Edo intervention to be able to succeed. As we produce athletes for the country, we also have to produce technical officials for the game.

This training is coming at the right time and the next one will be taken to an already built and better facility. To the officials, you know the rules and you are important because athletes need to know if and the discipline we need in our sports will be impacted on these young men and women athletes. I wish you the best time in your stay and we believe this technical training will add more colours to the development of the Okpekpe race and Sports generally in our state.

Lastly, I want to thank my brother, Mike Itemuagbor who has brought Okpekpe to the world map, an event from a small village in Etsako East Local Government of Edo State. We as a government are pleased with this as one of our cardinal pillars in the Edo MEGA (Make Edo Great Again) agenda is sports because we believe it will create a lot of a venue for the youths in the state to explore and demonstrate their God-given talents.

As we know, Sports is a business on its own, and Mike Itemuagbor being a strong force in the Sports business has brought so much recognition to Okpekpe, with this, the government will continue to give its support to the event.

PHOTO NEWS: Buhari presides over the Council of State meeting in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

The meeting started at 10am and has in attendance Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the government of the federation, National security adviser, Cheif of Staff to the president.

Also in attendance are former heads of state Goodluck Jonathan, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and General Yakubu Gowon.

The chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum is leading about six other governors physically present at the council chambers while the others join virtually from their respective states.

Before the commencement of proceedings, The council of states observed a minute silence in honor of the former head of Interim national government Ernest shonekan who died on the 11th of January.

This is the fourth council of state meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting is expected to deliberate on important national issues especially matters of security, and the economy.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ALLEGATIONS: AUTOPSY CONDUCTED ON LATE OSINACHI’S BODY, HUSBAND STILL IN POLICE CUSTODY

On Monday, an autopsy was carried out on the famous Nigerian gospel musician Osinachi Nwachukwu’s co**se to ascertain the real cause of her death.

Speaking on behalf of her family for the first time on Sunday, the deceased older sister, Favour Made, alleged that her sister’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu, was responsible for her death in an interview with the Vanguard.

Mrs. Made said her sister’s death was from a cluster of blood gathered in the deceased’s chest due to her husband, who allegedly kicked her recently.

She also dismissed claims that the deceased died of cancer, adding that she had always been a victim of abuse from her husband.

However, close friends and associates have suggested that her violent union led to her untimely death.

They also accused the Ekwueme crooner’s husband of constantly molesting and beating her.

According to sources with knowledge of the ongoing investigation, the autopsy became necessary after the late singer’s husband, alleged to have been responsible for her death, denied any wrongdoing.

Mr. Nwachukwu said his late wife had been ill since November last year. He said he first took her to Federal Medical Center (FMC), later to Gwagwalada General hospital, and then to National hospital, where she finally died. He, however, failed to disclose the nature of her illness.

At about 11 a.m on Monday, our correspondent saw Mr Nwachukwu handcuffed and escorted into the police van stationed in front of the Lugbe police station in Abuja.

The police said they were driving him to their house to provide evidence of the hospitals he claimed to have taken his deceased wife to for treatment

While the police await the autopsy test results, Mr. Nwachukwu has been transferred to the force headquarters in Abuja for further interrogations. Sources who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES said they don’t want their names in print as they were not permitted to speak on the case.

Late Osinachi was a lead singer at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre. She was featured in several popular gospel songs like “Nara Ekele” by Pastor Paul Enenche (Dunamis, Abuja) and “You no dey use me play” by Emma. She is survived by four children and her family.

According to reports, more than three days after her death was announced, Dunamis church is yet to issue any statement.

Verifiable reports has it that Oshiomhole has been quoted as saying that he was merely invited to a 'Thanksgiving party' as part of his 70th birthday celebration at his ancestral home by those pushing him for the inordinate senatorial ambition, wherein he jokingly said he would have loved to contest the Edo North senatorial seat.

Hope comrade is not backpedaling based on the cold reception he received recently at a function organized by the wife of the president, Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Buhari?, wherein Senior comrade was allegedly treated like an orderly and or an usher, as nobody recognized his presence, even though he gatecrashed.

From all indications, Senior comrade actually has a serious axe to grind with the northern political class, an indication that he is going to fail again, if distinguished Senator Francis Alimimikhena can actually prove to him that his military experience is anything to be held in a high esteem.

Breaking: Alleged Terrorism: Court strikes out 8 out of the 15 court charge against Nnamdi Kanu.

Justice Binta Nyako of the federal high court Abuja has struck out 8 of the 15 count charge brought by the federal government against the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu.

Delivering ruling on the validity of the charge Justice Binta held that In this instant preliminary objection application, counts 6,7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 have not disclosed any offense by the defendant , while Count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 shows some allegations.

The trial of the defendant shall proceed on the those count,.

She noted that rendition for the purpose of criminal investigation is allowed. In the instant case, there is bench warrant on the defendant, suffice it say, he is a fugitive before the court.

The court also held that the issue of proscription of IPOB, the case is still on appeal, the order proscribing the organization is still subsisting until it is vacated.

Human error which could be an action or inaction may have altered your political journey, it is a generic term that involves all those instances where a planned activity fails to achieve its intended outcome. For example, the truncation of your tenure as National chairman of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), and the 2020 gubernatorial election in Edo state, which did not go your way, but it is also not enough to conclude on yourself that your political journey has ended.

OBI OF ONITSHA BREAKS SILENCE ON HOW A PHONE CALL SAVED HIM FROM BOARDING ATTACKED TRAIN.

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, has revealed that he was to board the Abuja-Kaduna train that was attacked on Monday, March 28, but a phone call caused him to abort the journey in an attack which left some of the passengers dead, others injured and many still unaccounted for.

Speaking on Saturday, April 2, (Today), when Igbo leaders under the aegis of Ahamefuna Socio-cultural organisation converged in Enugu, Igwe Achebe said he did not board the train because of a phone call inviting him for an emergency.

He said: “I was among the passengers meant to be on the train last Monday because I had a meeting I was supposed to be attending.
I was already at the train station when I got a call over an emergency and I had to leave the station to attend to it.”

The monarch decried the increasing insecurity situation in the country.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the federal high court Abuja has refused the bail application of suspended Deputy commissioner of police Abba Kyari.

The court held that the NDLEA has placed sufficient evidence before the court enough for it to refuse bail.

The NDLEA in its counter-affidavits to Mr. Kyari’s bail application held that it is inappropriate to grant bail to the applicant because of the facts and circumstances of the case. The applicant is already facing extradition on charges of wire fraud.

The 2nd applicant who is an Assistant Superintendent of police is under investigation for money laundering and may face charges on same.

According to NDLEA, The medical challenges of the applicants are not beyond their capacity. The applicant has had dealings with criminals in line of his duty and may be inclined to engage them in interfering with the evidence. The applicant is a flight risk and might jump bail.

It is on this premise the court refuse the bail application of the 1st and 2nd applicant.

The court also refused the bail application of the 4th and 5th applicants on grounds that the respondent (NDLEA) has been able to establish criminal responsibility against them.
The court is currently hearing the validity to review facts in the case of the 6th and 7th defendants who had already pleaded guilty.

MAYAKI'S DEFERRED HOPE OF RETURNING AS A CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY, AND HIS UNREPENTANT MENDACITIES.

It is very true that 'deferred hope' makes the brain, heart and the entire sense of reasoning to feel sick or depressed, and depression is indeed very real, particularly as being observed in recent times in Mr. John Mayaki, who now lies more than he breaths in oxygen. We find deferred hope mentioned in the Bible and other holy books, with particular reference to Proverbs 13:12.

The Passion Translation defines deferred hope as the dream that seems to drag on and on, and or the delay that can be depressing.
The New King James says hope deferred makes the heartsick. A further study in Strong’s Concordance defines 'deferred' as
drawn-out, extended, prolonged, scattered, and or to stretch out, and this gives credence to the promise dished out to Mayaki by Pastor Ize-Iyamu and others, that he ( Mayaki), was going to return as a Chief Press Secretary ( CPS), to the Utopians.

Without mincing words, it is verifiably on records that Mr. John Mayaki has a very long history of being a very mendacious and treacherous young man, particularly when gifted with money, irrespective of how little it may be.

His desperation to find his way back to the popular Edo Government House as a Chief Press Secretary ( CPS), which has always hit the rock, has really thrown him off balance, to the point that he now resort to unnecessary media attacks on Edo Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who was never instrumental to his unceremonious exit from office as a Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

'History shall keep repeating itself if we as a people failed and or refused to respect history' and it is also very bad for us to keep allowing the same snake to bite us over and over again.

That liars have short memories remains very indisputable and this is hinged firmly on Mayaki's dossier of mendacities and spread of falsehoods, aimed at misleading the reading and unsuspecting public, which has also rendered him a media vegetable and placed on oxygen.

Mayaki in 2020, while he held sway as the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), in Edo state, during the 2020 gubernatorial election , was involved in a total show of shame, wherein he raised a false alarm and accused an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), Mr. Mike Igini, of complicity with His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to rig the election, as he accused Igini of being sighted at the Edo Government House in Benin City, Edo state, to take a bribe, knowing fully well that his claim was the mendacity of the millennium.

As contained in the archives, the election official, Mr. Mike Igini was wrongly accused by loquacious and garrulous Mayaki of receiving bribe from Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, and same Mayaki, upon getting wind of the N10 Billion libel suit against him and his cohorts in the business of spreading falsehoods and deluding the reading public, swiftly tendered an open apology on December 25, 2020, to Mr. Mike Igini with a view to escaping the hangman's knoose.

It is indeed very sad to note that Mayaki who is supposed to uphold the ethics of the pen profession, by striving hard to promote the principle of absolute neutrality via balanced reportage and objectivity, has allowed his political interest and other parochial or mercenary motives, to becloud his sense of judgement, as none of his claims in recent times, particularly in print, has ever passed any integrity test.

We are indeed not oblivious of Mayaki's antics, which he is seriously leveraging on as a treacherous quack journalist, who only has a great knack for keying into Albert Einstein's words that, " in the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity"

We need no soothsayer to tell us that Mayaki is trying to get the attention of Rivers state Governor, to commission him ( Mayaki) to keep throwing invectives on His Excellencies, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and his digital and ever loyal Deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, over the recent ' teacup' issues in the Edo chapter of the People's Democratic Party ( PDP), wherein Governor Wike overreacted out of emotions against the principle of rationality, and objectivity.

Mayaki should be reminded that " No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar, as the
the trust of the innocent is the liar's most useful tool, while the only thing worse than a liar is a liar that is also a hypocrite"

Our attention has been drawn to the above publication presently trending on social media by one Mr. John Mayaki and his cohorts where a lot of misleading and personal attack were made against the person of *His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu*, Edo State Deputy Governor, over his 'TVC interview' wherein he constructively analysed issues and challenges currently facing the People's Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo State.

Ordinarily, we would not have bothered to dignify Mr. John Mayaki with any response or join issues with him over the said publication, but for the purpose of setting the records straight on the desk for the discerning public and the good people of Edo State, we hereby make the following submissions:

(1) That Mr. John Mayaki who has a very watery knowledge of the ' teacup' issues within the Edo state chapter of the People's Democratic Party ( PDP), should learn how not to cry more than the bereaved, as we are not oblivious of the glaring fact that, he is surreptitiously attempting to fan embers of strife in the party, when the National Executive Council ( NEC) of the great Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is already wading into the ' teacup' issue, which is not peculiar to us, but very ubiquitous.

(2) That he (John Mayaki) and his puerile behaviour in recent times, has always given credence to the King James Version of the Bible text, with particular reference to the book of Matthew Chapter 7, which reads inter alia. " Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mole out of thy brother's eye" has spoken volume in this regard.

One would have expected Mr. John Mayaki to concentrate on writing about the need for a truce between the warring parties in the All Progressives Congress ( APC), which has assumed a cancerous dimension, and not resorting to mendacity and puerile behaviours, capable of dragging his personal reputation in the mud, when the key actors in his party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC), have already thrown in the towel against the party, by drawing a blanket conclusion that the party ( APC), is set to be interned.

(3) That it is high time Mr. John Mayaki understood the glaring fact that throwing tantrums and other forms of diatribes against the Deputy Governor of Edo state, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, is indeed not the best way of diagnosing and treating the cancerous ailment in his party, as such unnecessary vituperative comments have always remained ' waters off the duck's back'

To this end, we hereby urge the good people of Edo state and the reading public, to disregard Mr. John Mayaki's unnecessary affront on the Deputy Governor of Edo state, as we cohesively strive towards achieving the Edo of our dreams, to the glory of God.

EDO MUST MOVE FORWARD
