Who am I?

This is one question you should ask yourself every day. When you do, write something down, no matter how it may sound.

Settle down and gather all your thoughts and draft an effective "ABOUT YOU" document. Have a long form and an elevator pitch form (about yourself in a minute).

Doing this, for me, helps me check where I am, where I m going and how far I have gone. It also helps you get prepared for questions like this especially during networking or a job interview.

So I urge us as laboratory professionals, to do this.

The first thing I tell most of my students, especially those who are in their finals and want to further their education is to convert their project into a journal manuscript.

Your first publication should be your undergraduate project.

It's so simple to convert because ;

1. You've done all the work already
2. It has gone through some level of review and correction
3. It was part of the requirements for you to graduate.

This was the major topic of a webinar I hosted. My brother Akpede Akp was really helpful in answering many concerns concerning SLT, therefore it was an excellent session.

This is the 𝐆𝐀𝐏 your research will fill. This means that, after telling us the background of your research and saying that other researchers have done something related to your topic, what is that thing that they have not done yet. This is where you come in.

𝐏𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐘

Here you are telling us 𝐖𝐇𝐘 it is important to fill that gap. What if they didn't want to fill that gap for a reason. So give us good convincing points and possible adverse effect of that gap isn't filled.

𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐘

Here you tell us 𝐖𝐇𝐎 will find this problem useful. What's the point of solving something if it has no use. So, your research has to solve human problems especially. So make a list of the sectors that may find that your research useful if eventually the problem is solved.

I think it was about a month ago, I posted a video on this topic on my channel.

I was excited about the whole content in the video.

As a laboratory technologist, I am part of many SLT groups on Facebook.

So I posted this said video on these groups and waited to get approved by admin.

The admin approved and got a lot of interaction with the content and that was great.

Many liked the content, however there were some who didn't like some statements I made in the video.

So, I went on to ask questions and figured out that some of my information were out of date. And i totally apologize.

I got corrected by and learned a lot more about Science Laboratory Technology as a profession.

When you submit an article to a journal publisher, they thank you and send it to a group of reviewers (usually two, but sometimes three) to ensure the quality of your work.

Your manuscript will either be accepted or rejected by the editor based on the reviewer's suggestion.

In this video, I go over 8 key points that editors and reviewers look for when evaluating your work.

When you turn in that well-written paper, they look for the following:
1. If you follow the "𝘈𝘜𝘛𝘏𝘖𝘙'𝘚 𝘎𝘜𝘐𝘋𝘌𝘓𝘐𝘕𝘌𝘚 or 𝘐𝘕𝘚𝘛𝘙𝘜𝘊𝘛𝘐𝘖𝘕S TO AUTHORS."
2. If your TITLE corresponds to their objectives
3. If the ABSTRACT contains all of the required elements
4. if the INTRODUCTION is descriptive enough;
5. if the METHOD is acceptable for the title
6. If there is substantial evidence in the RESULTS and DISCUSSION,
7. If the CONCLUSION is relevant to the purpose of the paper.
8. If the plagiarism check is successful.

Other details are considered by the reviewers before making a decision, but these are the most important.

I learnt that from reading another book.

There's every book for everything you want to do in this life.

The first book I ever read was "Rich dad poor dad". It changed my life.

There was a time I lacked self confidence, I went to look for a book to help me build my self confidence.

I currently have a problem of not knowing what I really wanted, I went on to look for another book to help me with that and I am currently reading that book.
