May 29: It’s time to re-examine our assumptions – Obi

Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in Nigeria, has called on his fellow Nigerians to reevaluate their assumptions about the country and reject its present shameful conditions. In a statement marking the May 29, 2023 Presidential inauguration, Obi emphasized the need for reflection, hope, and a commitment to a better Nigeria.

Obi acknowledged the troubled state of Nigeria's democracy, where a minority is satisfied with the election results while the majority, along with international observers, remain concerned. Despite reservations about the election, Obi urged Nigerians to uphold the law and seek peaceful resolutions to their grievances.

As legal battles surrounding the disputed election continue, Obi stressed the importance of an independent and integral judiciary. He called on Nigerians to respect the judiciary and expressed hope that it would reaffirm its principles in handling the election cases.

Obi expressed his rejection of the current state of the country, condemning corruption and the violation of important requirements for national development. He highlighted the decline in security, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence, as well as Nigeria's poor rankings in education, health, and per capita income.

However, Obi remained committed to working with like-minded Nigerians to end the cycle of missed opportunities and squandered hope. He urged the youth to remain patient, peaceful, and focused, assuring them that victory is assured in their pursuit of a productive and prosperous Nigeria.

Positive Decision is Important!!!

Put a frog in a vessel of water and start heating the water.

As the temperature of the water rises, the frog is able to adjust its body temperature accordingly.

The frog keeps on adjusting with increase in temperature...

Just when the water is about to reach boiling point, the frog is not able to adjust anymore...

At that point the frog decides to jump out...

The frog tries to jump but is unable to do so, because it has lost all its strength in adjusting with the rising water temperature...

Very soon the frog dies.

What killed the frog?

Many of us would say the boiling water...

But the truth is what killed the frog was its own inability to decide when it had to jump out.

We all need to adjust with people and situations, but we need to be sure when we need to adjust and when we need to confront/face.

There are times when we need to face the situation and take the appropriate action...

If we allow people to exploit us physically, mentally, emotionally or financially, they will continue to do so...

We have to decide when to jump.

Let us jump while we still have the strength.

Think on It !!

There was a bird who lived in a desert, very sick, no feathers, nothing to eat and drink, no shelter to live in.

One day a dove was passing by, so the sick unhappy bird stopped the dove and inquired "where are you going?" it replied " I am going to heaven".
So the sick bird said "please find out for me, when my suffering will come to an end?" .
The dove said, "sure, I will." and bid a good bye to the sick bird. The dove reached heaven and shared the message of the sick bird with the angel incharge at the entrance gate.
The angel said, "For the next seven years of its life the bird has to suffer like this, no happiness till then." .
The dove said, "When the sick bird hears this he will get disheartened. could you suggest any solution for this."
The Angel replied, "Tell him to recite this verse "Thank you God for everything." .

The dove on meeting the sick bird again, delivered the message of the angel to it .
After seven days the dove was passing by again and saw that bird was very happy, feathers grew on the bird's body, a small plant grew up in the desert area, a small pond of water was also there, the bird was singing and dancing cheerfully.
The dove was astonished. The Angel had said that there would be no happiness for the bird for the next seven years. With this question in mind the dove went to visit the angel at heaven's gate.
The dove put forth his query to the Angel. The Angel replied, "yes it is true there was no happiness for the bird for seven years but because the bird was reciting the verse "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING" in every situation, his life changed.
When the bird fell down on the hot sand it said "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING".
When it could not fly it said, "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING".
When it was thirsty and there was no water around, it said, "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING".

Another Nollywood Actor, Chikezie Uwazie, D!es After Brain Surgery

Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of another actor, Chikezie Uwazie, who died after a second brain surgery in the United States.

His colleague, Obey Etok, made the announcement on her Instagram page late Sunday.

She wrote, "I can't imagine I'm posting this. Chikezie Uwazie goneeeee. After a 2nd brain surgery. Gini na emezi. I'm so shocked to get this news this evening. Just got this from our IMSU alumni platform.

"I thought you told me you were going to the states for greener pastures. You promised to come back some years back but I didn't see you.

"I can't believe you are gone but God knows best. Rest on Chyko."

This comes as Nollywood also mourns the death of Saint Obi and Murphy Afolabi.

Guinness World Record Holder For Marathon Cooking Hails Chef Hilda Baci

The Guinness World Record holder for marathon cooking by an individual, Lata Tondon, has drummed support for Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who is on a mission to break the record.

The current record for the world's longest cooking marathon is held by Tondon, who completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in Rewa, India, in 2019.

Sharing a video of Baci on her Instagram page on Sunday, Tondon wrote, "All the best, Hilda. Hope to see you on the Official Site of Guinness Book of World Records soon."

As of Monday morning, Baci exceeded Tondon's record time.

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci, is attempting to break the Guinness world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

The cook-a-thon held in Lagos, which is set to last for 90 hours, started on Thursday, May 11, and is expected to end on Sunday, May 14.

The Guinness Book of Records is a reference book that contains human and natural world records.

It was first published in 1955 by the Guinness Brewery in Ireland and has since become one of the world’s most well-known and frequently read reference books.

Individuals or groups must submit proof to the Guinness World Records team and go through a verification process to qualify for a world record listing.

Here is a list of Nigerians that have broken the Guinness World Records in recent times:

1. Gbenga Ezekiel - Record for the most skips in a minute on one leg. (February 2023)

2: Divine Ikubor aka Rema - Record for ‘Calm Down’ as the first No.1 Hit on The Official MENA Chart, the world’s first regional streaming chart. (May 2023)

PHOTOS: Zamfara Workers Organise Special Prayers Over Non-Payment Of Salaries

Some civil servants in Zamfara State observed special prayers at the Eid mosque in Gusau, the state capital, on Saturday.

Daily Trust reports that the workers who converged on the mosque around 10 a.m. sought divine intercession over their salaries.

The workers said they were last paid in January and were finding it difficult to meet up with their demands.

“Many of us have been pushing to be beggars, unable to eat one square meal a day. So, this prayer session is specially meant to commit our dear governor, Head of Service, members of the House of Assembly and all those concerned, for God to enable them to have compassion on us.

“We have suffered enough on account of this struggle, many lost their lives too and we want it no more. We have gathered in unison devoid of religious affiliations to sincerely seek God’s intervention for all,” one of them who craved anonymity said.

The Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, on Sunday, reacted to a video circulating on the internet, where singer Seun Kuti was filmed assaulting an officer.

Seun Kuti: Temper Justice With Mercy, Singer Mr P Begs Police

Singer Paul Okoye of PSquare, aka Mr. P, has pleaded with the police to temper justice with mercy over the case of his colleague, Seun Kuti, who was filmed assaulting a policeman.

In the video that emerged on Saturday, Kuti was seen pointing to the unidentified police officer before proceeding to push and slap the officer.

The police, however, have called for the singer’s arrest following the viral video.

Reacting to the development via a tweet on Sunday, Mr. P wrote, “Quite an unfortunate incident, and from reports, it seems Seun’s family was in danger hence the altercation.

“When you understand what happens when a man is put in a situation to protect his family from any form of danger, our emotions get the better of us.

“I ask and plead that the accept our unreserved apologies for the unfortunate outburst and tamper justice with mercy.”

Retweeting Mr P’s post, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, wrote, “Whenever you feel an unarmed lone police officer put your family in danger (God forbids it), go ahead and slap the officer. Do it in Nigeria and the USA where you visit often.

“I’m certain eminent Nigerians will bring up this argument of yours in your defense.”

''We look forward to the prompt prosecution of Kuti to act as a deterrent to others''- Police Service Commission reacts to video of Seun Kuti assaulting police officer

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, for ordering the arrest of Seun Kuti for attacking a police officer on duty.

In a video that has gone viral, the “Afrobeat’’ musician wearing a red shirt atop a white pair of trousers was seen slapping and pushing the policeman. While slapping the policeman, he repeatedly asked him: “You dey mad’’? (are you insane’’?).

In a statement released on Sunday May 14, the Chairman of the PSC, Solomon Arase, said that no matter the offense, nobody, including Kuti, had the right to assault a policeman on official duty. Arase frowned at the effrontery of Kuti to have slapped the policeman, insisting that Nigeria is not a Hobbesian state where might is right.

“We must, as civilized people explore established channels of complaints against alleged infractions by law enforcement officials rather than this uncouth behaviour of assaulting the country’s symbol of authority. We look forward to the prompt prosecution of Kuti to act as a deterrent to others,’’ Arase was quoted in the statement issued by PSC’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani.

Ani added that Arase commended the police officer for refusing to be provoked by the action of his aggressor; a development, he said would have been fatal.
