REVIEW: Jagun Jagun, The Warrior

Jagun Jagun is an action-packed movie by Femi Adebayo, who plays the role of Ogundiji, an unforgiving warrior and instrument of the influential people in the society, who feels threatened whenever one of his henchmen demonstrates extraordinary power.

Ogundiji has a school where he trains young men from different villages to be dogged fighters but not like him. Gbotija, a young man who lost his father to invaders and sought revenge, joins his school. He becomes popular among his mates for his readiness to die for the truth.

One day, when Ogundiji was out of town, his enemies came for his wife's head but were defeated by Gbotija, who heard her scream from outside. This was how Gbotija being potent, first got to Ogundiji. The second was during a festival. He felt threatened and gave him three tasks that could take his life.

The first is to fight Gbogunmi, the most substantial and respected follower of Ogundiji. He defeated him and sent him to his creator. The second is to stay in a casket for seven days. When he almost completed the task, Ogundiji discovered he was still alive and healthy; he asked his boys to drop the casket in the river. Gbotija survived!

The third task is to wage war against a village he thought didn't deserve to be hurt. But he invaded the town because of his love for Kiitan, whom he would unknowingly kill, Ogundiji adopted child. Before Kiitan died, she revealed some secrets about Ogundiji to him, marking the end of the unforgiving and arrogant warlord.

Femi Adebayo set a record with Agesinkole and broke it with Jagun Jagun. The storyline, dialogue and cinematography are superb. The movie is star-studded, and I saw each of the stars used playing their roles perfectly. Thanks to Lateef Adedimeji for his exceptional acting. As my friend Folorunso Fatai Adisa said, he has come of age.
