Nigeria has received the first batch of A-29 Super Tucano aircraft procured from the United States of America.

The Nigerian Airforce said the aircraft arrived in Kano State on Thursday afternoon. The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Oladayo Amao, were on ground to receive the aircraft.

According to the NAF Spokesman, the second batch of the A-29 Super Tucano is expected to arrive in the country before the end of the year.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, says the Nigerian Army will resist any form of violence against the Nigerian State.

Gen. Irabor during a visit in Owerri, Imo State, said any group seeking to leave the country should do so following proper constitutional channels. He also assured that his visit will ensure an improvement in the security of the South East.

A young man has been left with severe burns after drums of petroleum products exploded in a compound on Afrique Street, Rumuekini, Port Harcourt.

Our correspondent who visited the scene reports that over fifteen drums of petroleum products were stored in an uncompleted building inside a compound housing other blocks of self-contain apartments. The huge fire did not affect other buildings and was put out by residents. The young man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Choba Police Division, local vigilante ASPAC, and NSCDC personnel were at the scene of the fire incident taking away what was left of the petroleum products.

The case involving Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, is expected to be heard at the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou, in Benin Republic, today, Friday, July 23.

After a prolonged hearing on Thursday, Igboho was returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, while the court ordered Igboho’s wife released and her passport returned to her.

The court is expected to rule on the merits or otherwise of the international arrest warrant for Igboho. The judgment will determine if he will be extradited to Nigeria or not.

The management of the Eastern District of Nigeria Railway Corporation has suspended the planned hundred percentage increment of the train transport fare from Port Harcourt to Abia State.

Spokesman of the Port Harcourt Depot Station, Samuel Adoyebi tells correspondent Soibi Oruwari that the suspension is due to the planned renovation works on the couches.

Recall that train passengers in Rivers State protested against the planned increase two weeks ago.
