PENTECOST EXPERIENCE AND THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY

To speak about the Holy Spirit's descent on the apostles will not be complete without the episode of the speaking in different tongues as the Spirit enabled them (Acts 2:4), to the point that the large crowd from the different parts of the world who had gathered for the sacred feast were astounded and asked the question: "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? How is it that each of us hear them in his own native language?

In the month of May, I took up a simple yet demanding task of evangelism about the Holy Rosary. It was simple in the sense that I decided to make videos about the basic rosary prayers which are Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be to the Father. It was demanding in the sense that I had to, on different days within the month of May, pray these basic prayers in the different languages I have come across in life. The languages are: Kiswahili which I learnt a bit of in Kenya, Cebuano which I learnt a bit of in the Philippines, German which I learnt a bit of in the university, Igbo which is my language, Setswana which is the language spoken in my pastoral region in South Africa, Yoruba which I learnt a bit of during my seminary days in Ijebu-Ode, and Latin which I learnt while in secondary school.

The aim of this is not so much about showing how many languages I can pray in or the correctness of the words, but the passion and the need to reach out in the month of the Holy Rosary to as many people as possible through social media. The posts of these rosary prayers in the different languages mentioned above were made on my TikTok handle

LENT AND THE FALLENNESS OF HUMAN NATURE

In life, we already get used to expressions like 'no cross, no crown' ; 'no pain, no gain'. And here, we come to the season of Lent preparing and pointing us to the joys which will come at Easter, for though sorrow may endure for the night, joy comes in the morning. This is a long journey of 40 days, already started and counting... We must have made some resolutions about how to go about the 40 days. We must have felt that zeal and strength to take this 40 day walk with the Lord when we received the ashes on Ash Wednesday. How far have we gone?
Whenever we make the decision to follow the ways of the Lord, trials and temptation are always a reality that we cannot avoid. This must be why the Church presents the Temptation story of Jesus on the first Sunday of Lent to remind us that we are prone to temptations especially when we choose to follow.

What must we do?
We share in the FALLENNESS of Adam through temptations, but God's grace makes the difference. On the road to Calvary, the Lord Jesus was recorded to have fallen three times under the weight of the cross, but he kept rising because his focus was on Calvary. This is probably why we must learn to rise whenever we fall. At those times when we feel that we are down in the muds of life, we really need to get up, dust ourselves and move on. The Lord's grace is sufficient for us but we need to ask so that it be given. We often trip and fall in life's journey when we feel we can push through alone. Our focus should remain on God who called us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ...

A fruitful Lenten season to us all

Shalom 🙌

THE BEAUTY OF FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness is a very important event in our Christian journey which may seem difficult to achieve, but it is worthwhile for all who are open to it. It has to do with letting go of the pains, the hurt, the sadness, the anger and all the feelings which come with being offended. Forgive even without counting the cost.

The sad reality is that we often wait to get apologies before we forgive, and because of that, we stay for a long time with unforgiveness in our hearts. The one who offended us may not even be aware, or they must have moved ahead without knowing that the fire of unforgiveness is burning in our hearts.

Make time today to ask God to give you the grace to forgive all who have wronged you in one way or the other. Let go of the grudges and sadness. Take a step to move ahead and always forgive even when there are no apologies. Remember always that "to err is human, and to forgive is divine" and when we forgive others their offences, God will also forgive us (cf. Mt. 6:14).

Anchor Scripture: "Then Peter approaching asked him, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times" (Mt. 18:21-22).

THE BEAUTY OF PRAISE

Praise is the lifting up of hearts and voices to God in thanksgiving for all He has done, is doing and is yet to do in our lives. Praise is unique because it springs from the depths of the heart and is offered to God for all good things around us. Through the lifting up of our hearts and voices in praise, we are able to reach out to the highest heaven where God dwells, and He who dwells in the praises of His people (cf. Ps. 22:3) is able to open up the windows of heaven and pour forth his bountiful gifts on all who praise Him.

The Lord is great and worthy to be praised (cf. Ps. 145:3) both in the good and bad times. He knows how to set things right and lift up those who are cast down in order to care for them (cf. 1 Pet. 5:7). Learn to be a praise giver and watch the Lord do something new in your life.

Anchor Scripture: "Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy sanctuary; give praise in the mighty dome of heaven. Give praise for his mighty deeds, praise him for his great majesty. Give praise with blasts upon the horn, praise him with harp and lyre. Give praise with tambourines and dance, praise him with strings and pipes. Give praise with crashing cymbals, praise him with sounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath give praise to the Lord!Hallelujah! (Ps. 150).

Shalom 🙌

Pie Jesu is a Latin song composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and its direct translation is:
Merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus
Father, who takes away the sins of the world
Grant them rest, grant them rest
Merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus
Father, who takes away the sins of the world
Grant them rest, grant them rest
Lamb of God, Lamb of God, Lamb of God, Lamb of God
Father, who takes away the sins of the world
Grant them rest, grant them rest
everlasting
everlasting
Rest

On this day and throughout the month of November, Catholics all over the world pray for the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed. We pray that they may find rest in God's kingdom. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace... Amen🙏.

The Lord who allows the rain to fall on and the sun to shine on the good and the bad allows the wheat to grow with the weeds till the time of the harvest. He allows this because if an attempt is made to pull out the weeds when the wheats are still tender, the wheat may be pulled up too. God has sown us as seeds of wheat into life. The enemy always hangs around to plant the weeds.

How should we relate to this? As wheat, we should never loose our essence as wheat because of the many weeds around us. It is always a reality that weeds are always more than the wheat and often end up overpowering the wheat.

O wheat planted in the field of God, remain strong and do not allow the weeds of life to overpower you. They may try but will not succeed because God has destined you for the barn and the weeds for the fire🔥. Do not let your hearts be troubled, then, because greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. The time of harvest will surely come and the weeds will be separated from the wheat by the harvesters.

May God bless His word in our hearts.

The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them, and delivers them from all their troubles (Ps. 34:17)

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears turned to their prayer (1 Pet. 3:12)

When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart (Jer. 29:12-13)

If then my people, upon whom my name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and heal their land. Now, therefore, my eyes shall be open and my ears attentive to the prayer of this place (2 Chr. 7:14-15)
