To All the People of God To the General Public

DISCLAIMER

RE: INFLAMMATORY POLITICAL UTTERANCES BY FR. CAMILLUS EJIKE MBAKA

The attention of the Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Callistus V.C. Onaga, and the Catholic Diocese of Enugu has been drawn to the inflammatory political utterances by Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka, the Director of Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, on Wednesday. 15 June 2022 during his Wednesday Adoration Programme. Fr. Mbaka during his preaching attacked the good reputation of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate. describing him as "a stingy man" and as "a joker", contrary to canon 220 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming the good name of a person. He also made fun of the Labour Party and vowed that Mr. Obi could not be the president of Nigeria. This is a clear violation of the provisions of canon 287 $2 which forbids priests from engaging in partisan politics

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu hereby condemns and dissociates herself from such unbecoming and divisive utterances from Fr. Mbaka. We notify the general public that Fr. Mbaka's views on the matter are entirely personal to him and do not represent the position of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu. In an effort to keep him united to the Body of Christ, we enjoin him to refrain from making further provocative prophecies or utterances capable of beating up the polity. We assure the people of God and the general public that the Catholic Diocese of Enugu is taking the due canonical process

Finally, we urge all the People of God to continue to pray for peaceful elections and to discharge their civic responsibilities by getting their Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) and casting their votes in order to elect the right candidates.

May Our Lady, Queen of Nigeria, intercede for us

Fraternally Yours,

AM Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie Chancellor/Secretary CATHOLIC

Bianca Ojukwu Recounts Encounter With Peter Obi’s ‘Stinginess’
====
Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has shared the moment, she encountered the ‘stingy’ nature of the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, had on Wednesday, described Obi as a stingy man and his comments elicited harsh reactions from his supporters.

In a post on her page titled, ’On Peter Obi’s supposed ‘Stinginess’...’ the matriarch, recalled when Obi, then, a governor of Anambra State, visited Texas and had refused to buy a designer suit for an event instead opting for a $220 suit.

She said, “The suit that was a perfect match for him was a dapper Tom Ford suit with a price tag of 3,985 dollars plus tax. He did the calculations and told me ‘Do you know how many students this amount of money can train in Nigeria?

“To cut the story short, he refused to pay what he termed ’that outrageous price’ for the Tom Ford suit and that was how we ended up at Steinmart where he agreed to pay a more acceptable price of 220 dollars, tax inclusive, for a basic men’s suit which he was happy to wear to that evening’s event.

“What struck me, was that as we were on the way to the airport to see him off for his return flight back to Nigeria, he reached for his pocket where he brought out an envelope of crisp hundred dollar bills. The amount in the envelope was 3,800 dollars.

"He said ‘Anyanwu, this is the balance of the money I would have paid for the ‘Ford’ suit. If the label on the suit was ‘Peter Obi’, I am wondering if anybody in America will pay that amount for it. I have deducted the amount we paid for that suit we eventually bought. Please use this balance for your Charity foundation to help those in actual need. I trust you will do so’. We all laughed heartily. Vintage Peter Obi!”

Mrs Ojukwu went on to list the beneficiaries of Obi’s gift via her foundation.

LOOK FOR THE BEST CANDIDATE: Apollos urges delegates.

A Frontline aspirant to the seat of Obingwa West constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Enyinnaya Apollos has urged the delegates voting in Obingwa West PDP primaries to find and support the best candidate for the job.

The Peopes Democratic Party chieftain who hails from Isiko, spoke to *The Gong* team in an exclusive interview at his residence expressed a strong belief that he is the best among the many aspirants running to clinch the party ticket.

The House of Assembly hopeful who has been screened to run for the primaries said he has consulted all critical stakeholders across board, seeking the support and votes of all delegates concerned.

Meanwhile, there are indications that Hon. Apollos is a team player who has the interest of his people and party as priority, as he has assured that he would support whoever wins the ticket in the unlikely event that he is not chosen. He however urged the delegates to look critically at all the candidates to make sure that they elect someone who has a verifiable source of livelihood aside politics, he himself being an experienced and professional journalist with a track record of meritorious service. He spoke passionately to the voters saying "Do not support anyone who had no first address before politics and who has no other job or business aside politics".

Speaking on his vision for his people, Ex Media Chief to the Executive Governor of Abia State described a people's representative as a "receiver of complaints". According to him, a legislator aside the law making functions, is a link between his constituents and the government. He is a leader who listens to his people and attends to their complaints at any time. He expressed satisfaction with the incumbent Assembly member representing Obingwa West, saying that he has done well so far. He however added that the purpose of succession is for the successor to do better than the predecessor promising to do better and add to the good records of the present legislator from his constituency.

On his ambition and method of representation, the media guru gave an insight on the role of constant engagement with the constituents as a key to the success of a legislator. He expressed his belief that engagement is the greatest form of empowerment for the people including women and youths. For him engagement will open your eyes to the real needs of the people to enable you know how best to approach such needs. Engagement for him will pave the way for economic social and intellectual empowerment when you know the real needs of the people. He therefore promised to continue as he had always done, to speak to the people, open his doors to them, listen to them, know their needs and help in solving those needs. He further promised to engage the people through constant town hall meetings, one-on-one engagement and other channels of engagement.

Mr. Apollos listed some of his achievements so far to include scholarships given to sons and daughters of Isiko and Obingwa in general, constant grading of rural roads in the entire Mgboko Umuanunu for many years now, exploring and galvanizing the tourism potentials of Isiko and raising talents through the introduction of the annual Isiko Day celebration, among others.

When elected into the House of Assembly, he promised to include useful projects for Obingwa West in the State budget and ensure that they are executed, adding that his people love him and are supporting his aspiration because they know the good things he can do.

2023: PDP Jettisons Zoning...
Says Presidential Race is Open to All.

Communique Issued at the End of the 96th National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Held Today, Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great Party at its 96th meeting extensively deliberated on urgent national issues as well as the preparation of our Party for the 2023 general elections and resolved as follows:

1. NEC commended the dedication of the National Working Committee (NWC) under the Chairmanship of Sen. Dr. Iyorchia Ayu in effectively piloting the affairs of our Party, particularly in the organization of processes preparatory to the 2023 general elections.

2. NEC restated its confidence in the ability of the NWC to lead our Party to victory in the 2023 general elections.

3. NEC applauded other organs of the Party; namely the Board of Trustees (BoT), the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Assembly Caucus, the Zonal and State Organs of the Party, our structure at various levels, critical stakeholders and teeming members across the country for their efforts in strengthening our Party in the mission to Rescue and Rebuild our nation from the misrule of the APC.

4. NEC commended the NWC for the deft handling of issues relating to the conduct and outcome of our Party Congresses at various levels preparatory to the election of candidates for various elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

5. NEC applauded the spirit of sportsmanship being exhibited by our leaders, critical stakeholders, aspirants and party members on issues relating to our Congresses.

On the State of the nation

6. NEC strongly decried the worsening insecurity and continued killing of innocent Nigerians by terrorists who are emboldened by the exposed refusal of the APC-led government to confront the terrorists even when it knows their locations, listens to their phone conversations and even aware of their plans.

7. NEC Condemned the failure/refusal of the APC government to rescue our citizens still languishing in their abductors’ dens including a victims of last month’s terrorism attack on the Abuja/Kaduna train. NEC urged the Federal Government to live up to its Constitutional duty to secure life and property and ensure an unconditional release of all the abductees.

8. NEC expressed dismay that our security command and control coordination structure has collapsed under President Muhammadu Buhari as Mr. President remains “absent” having abdicated his duties as Commander-in-Chief and surrendering sovereignty over a substantial part of our country to terrorists.

9. NEC further condemned the humongous corruption and deliberate economic manipulations in the APC Government which have crippled our productive sector and resulted in the unbearable high cost of food items and other essential goods and services with consequential excruciating economic hardship to our citizens.

10. NEC rejected the continuing closure of public universities in Nigeria due to the refusal/failure of the APC government to decisively address the lingering industrial action by lecturers in public universities despite the huge resources at its disposal. It cautioned the APC to stop playing with the emotions, destiny and future of our youths and take action to address the industrial action immediately so that our children can go back to their classes.

11. NEC condemned in very strong terms the mass looting of our national treasury and diversion of public funds through orchestrated purchase of APC Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms by all manner of persons at excessive N100 million to warehouse slush funds for APC to rig the 2023 general elections. We restate our demand to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate all APC Presidential aspirants in this regard.

12. NEC restated the call by the Party for the immediate resignation, arrest and prosecution of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, for alleged manipulations and financial impropriety in the CBN which contributed to the collapse of our national economy.

13. NEC vehemently rejected the continued stay of Mr. Emefiele as CBN Governor after being confirmed as a card-carrying member of the APC. The CBN is the custodian and keeper of all INEC sensitive materials used in all elections. Having been confirmed as a member of the APC, Mr. Emefiele, can no longer be trusted with INEC sensitive materials which are key to the guarantee of free, fair and credible elections.

14. NEC assures Nigerians that the PDP is resolute in taking very firm legitimate series of action in the march to restore and protect the sanctity of our Central Bank and electoral process

Zoning:
15. After a very extensive deliberation NEC aligned with the recommendation of the PDP National Zoning Committee that the Presidential Election should now be left open. The Party should also work towards consensus candidate where possible.

NEC noted the recommendation of the Zoning Committee that in the interest of justice and fair play, the Party should take decision on Zoning timeously so as to prevent complications to the process.

Presidential Primary and National Convention

16. NEC ratified the conduct of the Presidential Primary (Special National Convention) to elect our Party’s Presidential Candidate on Saturday May 28 to Sunday May 29, 2022 in Abuja

17. NEC approved the setting up of the National Convention Organizing Committee and approved the appointment of His Excellency, Senator David Mark as Chairman, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as Deputy Chairman and His Excellency Barr. Ibrahim Shema as Secretary.

18. NEC assured of free, fair, credible and transparent processes for the emergence of our Party’s Candidates for all elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

Thank you.

National Publicity Secretary

01/05/2022

RT. HON CHIKWENDU KALU: A GIFT FROM NGWALAND TO NIGERIA.

The year 2022, penultimate to the election year 2023 is a year of great happenings for Ngwaland, Abia State and Nigeria.
For Ngwaland, this is the year an Ngwaman first aspired to the presidency of Nigeria under the umbrella of any political party at all.
For Abia State, it is a year that a former speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly for the first time aspired to lead Nigeria.
For Nigeria, it is a year the nation is having a great visionary leader who believes in responsible leadership, but whose name has never featured in national politics aspiring to the presidency of the country.

The phenomenal aspiration of Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu to the presidency of Nigeria took everyone by surprise, albeit a pleasant surprise. For informed commentators, it is an exceptional step of courage never known in the history of Abia State and the South East of Nigeria.

It is gratifying to know that the Peoples Democratic Party has screened and found Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu qualified to contest the office of the president. He now stands among other aspirants to compete for the presidential ticket of the party.

Given the strong values and a track record of service for which he is renowned, Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu stands an unquestionably bright chance of winning the party primaries and equally winning the presidency of Nigeria in the presidential elections come 2023.

One of his striking qualities is his strong belief in the youth. Thus, he has always created opportunities to interface with them and champion a cause for Youth Empowerment and value reorientation.

As a legislator, he has not failed to carry his constituents along, all the way. Thus, he has, in the past years, attracted development projects including school blocks, rural roads, Primary Health Centers, scholarships for students among others. This of course is in addition to his premium performance of his primary legislative responsibilities on the floor of the Abia State House of Assembly.

Interestingy, Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu's name is already becoming a household name among the electorate nationwide, especially among the delegates that will vote at the primaries to elect flagbearers. Therefore, his swift and resounding journey to victory is not in doubt.

For the delegates, one of the greatest gifts they can give to Nigeria and humanity in general is to elect Rt Hon Chikendu Kalu as the PDP flagbearer.
For the electorate in general, one of the most priceless gifts you can give to your children and future generations is to get your voters cards, and vote in a man whose time has come, into the presidency of the country.

He will, no doubt, replicate and multiply the great work he has done in his current office at the national level.

As a people, Ngwaland is proud of Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu for taking this big leap. As a state, the story of the courage displayed by this illustrious son of the state will always elicit pride as it reverberates across the length and breadth of the state.

It is for our own good as a country that he coasts to victory eventually. The current challenges facing the country, especially in the areas of the economy, education and security are sure to receive decisive attention.

To God be the glory
