It's indeed a wonderful opportunity to speak with young fellows that are passionately advancing SDG3: Good Health and Wellbeing.
I taught them on "SDGs and Volunteerism". There is no other time than this for us to collaborate to actualise .
Together, Let's make the world a better place. Think global act 'glocally'!
SDGs stands for Sustainable Development Goal.
It was adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a continuum of the MDGs
It consists of 17 goals projected to be achieved by 2030.
The SDGs can be broadly grouped under 5 categories i.e people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. This means the goals are centered around these 5.
These, goals are only achievable through our conscious efforts and volunteerism.
The importance of volunteering cannot be overemphasized and it goes way beyond monetary gains. It simultaneously helps us grow and be better while doing same to the community.
Part of the importance include:
1) Meeting people of common interest who can help you reach your personal and professional goals
2) Building you network.
A friend would say *"if you are working on something, be it a project or a program and you have to pay for everything, then you need to build a better and stronger network"*
Our network is our net worth!
3) It helps you discover yourself
4) Advocating for SDGs as a volunteer makes you stand out among your peers
5) It helps you boost your leadership, advocacy, interpersonal and critical thinking skills
6) It gives you an opportunity to serve humanity
Let's always remember that volunteering should not be prioritized on fame or wealth making.
Work on building your reputation first!
Finally, in any organisation that you may find yourself, don't act like the work belongs to the founder, it is a collective work!
