The Nollywood movie industry has really evolved tremendously over time since its emergence from obscurity, and now leaning towards a world class production, cinematography and storytelling that has now become more mainstream than ever before with its audience and the ability to create new characters and stories that are captivating.
For so long, the Nollywood industry has gone through different phases of growth and development, and experienced immense challenges and successes as well as difficulties over the past number of years.
In recent times, exceptional talents within the industry has blessed us with outstanding performances and achievements that are worthy of the highest recognition such that we can categorically say are Oscar worthy.
I have watched Funke Akindele evolve into being the artist she is today. Funke Akindele as many others, started her acting career at such a tender age, from soap opera to movies and now to the big screen, now turned producer and a great one at that.
It is with great pleasure and pride to review A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH. Watching the movie itself gives me great joy, Having watched Funke Akindele evolve into the actress and producer she is today. It is not uncommon to have women take control in their areas of expertise, but being in control with exceptional talent and creativity is an essential skill to possess.
In “ A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH, FUNKE AKINDELE played the character of Jedidah Judah, a single mother of 5 grown men, all her children were born for 5 different men, from 5 different tribes, hence the surname (JUDAH).
Jedidah: despite all her children’s shortcomings, the love she expends on her children was exceptional and she will go to the end of the earth to protect her children. Her character depicts a true reality of majority of some single mothers in our society today.
