New Italian prime minister vows to protect 'God, family, country' as media tie her to 'fascism'- ChristianGospel TV

Italy has elected Giorgia Meloni, its first female prime minister, whose focus on protecting the institution of the family and national identity has caused some media outlets to compare her ideology to "fascism."

The 45-year-old Meloni, the leader of the Brothers of Italy party, is slated to become Italy's next prime minister after her party won 26% of the vote in Sunday's Italian general election.

As of Tuesday, Brothers of Italy has captured 119 out of 400 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, Italy's equivalent of the U.S. House of Representatives, and 65 out of 200 seats in the Italian Senate. This marks a substantial change from the previous Italian government, where the Brothers of Italy had only 32 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

Brothers of Italy, a party with roots dating back to the post-World War II post-fascist Italian Social Movement, is part of the center-right coalition that will form the next government. The center-right coalition will hold 115 out of 200 seats in the Italian Senate and 237 out of 400 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

Responding to her victory in a statement, Meloni said "the Italians have entrusted us with an important responsibility."

"Now it will be our task not to disappoint them and do our utmost to restore pride and dignity to our nation," she said.

The politician's supporters see her as committed to upholding the values of God, family and country as European leaders increasingly embrace cosmopolitan and secular values of supranational organizations like the European Union as opposed to individual nation-states.

However, mainstream media outlets have tied Meloni and her party to fascism.

As conservative political commentator Ann Coulter pointed out, a New York Times article used the word "fascist" or "fascism" 28 times when discussing the possibility of a Meloni victory.

The New York Times article published Saturday stated that Meloni's "proposals, characterized by protectionism, tough-on-crime measures and protecting the traditional family, have a continuity with the post-Fascist parties, though updated to excoriate L.G.B.T.' lobbies' and migrants."

Coulter also reported that in the years following World War II, the Italian left assigned the "fascist" label to "any range of political enemies until the term was drained of much of its meaning."

A CBS News report recalled the rise of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini 100 years earlier, "marching the country into two decades of dictatorship and alongside Hi**er, into World War II."

"The 45-year-old firebrand insists she's no fascist, just a proud conservative and nationalist, comfortable neverttheless with some of the hallmarks of Italian fascism, like this motto: God, fatherland and family," CBS' Chris Livesay reported.

Livesay asked a supporter of Meloni why the flag of the Brothers of Italy party has "the very symbol that's on Benito Mussolini's tomb" if "there's no connection with fascism."

Alberto Mingardi, a professor of history and political thought at IULM University in Milan, and Nicola Rossi, a professor of political economy at Tor Vergata University in Rome, contend that there is "no risk of authoritarianism" in Italy's future under Meloni.

"The victory has made Ms. Meloni, 45, the object of widespread international perplexity and even abuse. She has been portrayed as the heir of Benito Mussolini and the harbinger of a new fascism," they wrote in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. "Yet whatever Italian democracy’s many faults, it isn’t toppling, and there is no risk of authoritarianism. Ms. Meloni, a career politician, has been vocal in defending Parliament’s prerogatives against encroachments by the executive branch."

Meloni has elaborated on her philosophy in multiple speeches over the past few years.

In a speech at the World Congress of Families in 2019, she asked, "Why is the family an enemy? Why is the family so frightening?"

"There is a single answer to all these questions," she suggested. "Because it defines us. Because it is our identity. Because everything that defines us is now an enemy for those who would like us to no longer have an identity and to simply be perfect consumer slaves."

Meloni lamented what she viewed as attacks on "national identity," "religious identity," "gender identity" and "family identity." She expressed concern that "I can't define myself as Italian, Christian, woman, mother" but instead must define herself as "citizen x, gender x, parent 1, parent 2."

"I must be a number. Because when I am only a number, when I no longer have an identity or roots, then I will be the perfect slave at the mercy of financial speculators," she added.

Meloni stated that her opposition to serving as "the perfect slave at the mercy of financial speculators" is why "we inspire so much fear."

Meloni vowed to "defend the value of the human being," stressing that "each of us has a unique genetic code that is unrepeatable."

"That is sacred. We will defend it. We will defend God, family and country, those things that disgust people so much," Meloni said.

The Italian politician cited the defense of God, family and country as necessary to "defend our freedom" and ensure that "we will never be slaves and simple consumers at the mercy of financial speculators."

She shared a quote from G.K. Chesterton predicting that "fires will be kindled to testify that two and two make four" and that "swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer," declaring "that time has arrived."

At a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference this year, an annual gathering of conservatives in Orlando, Florida, Meloni said "everything we stand for is under attack."

"Our individual freedom is under attack. Our rights are under attack," she said. "The sovereignty of our nation is under attack. The prosperity and well-being of our families are under attack. The education of our children is under attack."

The negotiator of the abducted train passengers, Tukur Mamu has raised the alarm that the abductors want to marry one of the hostages, a 21-year-old Christian lady, Azurfa Lois John.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna on Friday, Mamu said he got wind of their activities through a credible source.

He said as they have done in the case of Leah Sharibu “they are planning to marry her any moment from now.

Mamu disclosed, “This is to alert the federal government and especially the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that I can confirm through credible information at my disposal that if urgent action is not taken to immediately secure the release of the youngest victim of the train attack, a 21-year-old Azurfa Lois John, the abductors as they have done in the case of Leah Sharibu are planning to marry her any moment from now.

“One of the top commanders is said to be in love with her.

“Even though I know that releasing this information will not only unsettle her immediate family and loved ones but Nigerians as a whole, it is necessary to do so to avoid the repeat of Leah Sharibu’s case.

“I advise CAN in particular not to politicise this issue or reduce it to mere press releases as I have seen in the past but to work closely with relevant authorities to engage the abductors on her case as soon as possible before it is late.

“I pray that in view of the uncertainties which are becoming alarming, the federal government will also act very fast to ensure the release of all the remaining victims.

Mamu also confirmed that the oldest victim of the attack, an 85-year-old Hajiya Halimatu Atta, and her 53-year-old daughter, Adama Aliyu have been released.

The duo were part of the four more hostages released by the terrorists on Friday.

However, Mamu noted that the health condition of the 23 remaining victims is pathetic and requires urgent medical attention.

Many Nigerian Christians believe that the current Government is sympathetic to the radical Islamic terrorists and some think they are facilitating the action of Christian persecution in Nigeria and around the world.

Nigeria led the world in Christians killed for their faith last year (Oct. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021) at 4,650, up from 3,530 the previous year, according to Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List report. The number of kidnapped Christians was also highest in Nigeria, at more than 2,500, up from 990 the previous year, according to the WWL report.

Nigeria trailed only China in the number of churches attacked, with 470 cases, according to the report.

In the 2022 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian, Nigeria jumped to seventh place, its highest ranking ever, from No. 9 the previous year.

Dozens Of Christians Kidnapped In House-to-house Abductions In Northern Nigeria - Christian Gospel TV

Suspected Islamic extremists on Monday night kidnapped 36 people from a predominantly Christian village outside the city of Kaduna, in northern Nigeria.

Area resident Narin Barde said Muslim terrorists on Monday attacked the Keke B Community area of Millennium City, Chikun County, shooting randomly and capturing 36 Christians.

“The Muslim terrorists attacked the community at about 9 p.m., shooting at the people, and broke into their houses and forcefully took away the victims to an unknown place,” Barde said in a text message to Morning Star News.

On June 28 suspected Islamic terrorists attacked predominantly Christian Sabon Gero village, kidnapping 16 people, area residents said.

In northwest Nigeria’s Sokoto state, Roman Catholic leaders reported that one of their parishioners, Tony Udemezue, was kidnapped at gunpoint on Monday (July 25) at 2 a.m. from his home in Tambuwal, Tambuwal County.

The Rev. Chris Omotosho, director of communications for the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, said in a press statement that Udemezue called police before being taken away at gunpoint but received no help from officers.

“There was no police response to the distressed phone call by Udemezue at about 2 a.m.,” Omotosho said. “This is despite several phone calls he made to the police before he was taken away. Please let us keep him and his family in prayers.”

The kidnappings follow the abduction and killing of the Rev. John Mark Cheitnum of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna state. He was kidnapped on July 15 from the parish rectory of Christ the King Catholic Church in Yalding Garu, Lere County and later killed. His body was found on July 19.

Cheitnum served as priest at St. James Parish in Fori, Jema’a Local Government Area, according to the diocese.

The Rev. Julius Kundi, bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, said while addressing mourners at Cheitnum’s funeral on Thursday (July 21) that Christians will remain steadfast in spite of such attacks.

“I was crushed by the news of the death, but I am convinced that his death will prove to our enemies the genuineness and the beauty of our faith,” Kundi said at the Cathedral of St. Peter Claver, in Kafanchan town. “Those whose stock in trade is the abduction and the gruesome murder of members of the clergy should know that this will not stop us from courageously carrying the torch of the gospel to the ends of the earth, notwithstanding the barrage of attacks on our faith.”

Gunmen attacked another village in Kaduna state, Janbaba in Giwa County, on July 19, killing one Christian, said area resident Philip Umar in a text message to Morning Star News.

“For two days, we were not able to sleep at night as the bandits visited us with horror,” he said.

The chairman of the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA), Pastor Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, condemned the spate of attacks in a statement on July 20.

“The rising cases of priests being kidnapped and in some cases killed by their abductors, even after receiving ransoms, is worrisome,” Kure said. “We pray God to expose these killers and rescue all Christians in the den of their kidnappers.”

Religious Liberty Groups Condemn Biden’s Proposed Rule Forcing Doctors To Do Abortions, Trans Surgeries - ChristianGospel TV

Law firms specializing in religious liberty cases have denounced a newly proposed rule from the Biden administration that critics say will force doctors to perform abortions and body mutilating “gender transition” surgeries, even if they’re morally opposed to the practices.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced on Monday a proposed rule that would implement antidiscrimination measures on the basis of s*x, based on earlier actions by the Biden administration.

The measures draw from Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of s*x, race and national origin.

The proposed rule would define “s*x” as including s*xual orientation and gender identity, in keeping with the U.S. Supreme Court decision Bostock v. Clayton County.

“This proposed rule ensures that people nationwide can access health care free from discrimination,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, as quoted in the announcement.

“Standing with communities in need is critical, particularly given increased attacks on women, trans youth, and health care providers. Health care should be a right not dependent on looks, location, love, language, or the type of care someone needs.”

Luke Goodrich of Becket Law is critical of the proposed rule, telling The Christian Post that it was “yet another proposal to force doctors and hospitals across the country to perform gender transitions and abortions in violation of their conscience and medical judgment.”

“This has been the announced policy of the administration since the first day President Biden took office,” he added. “But what they are doing here is proposing to codify that threatening and unlawful [mandate] as a new federal rule.”

“The new proposed rule is already dead on arrival when it comes to religious groups, because the Biden administration is already subject to multiple permanent injunctions from federal courts telling it, it is not allowed to require religious doctors and hospitals to perform transitions and abortions.”

Matt Bowman of the Alliance Defending Freedom said the administration “just came right out of the gate and told the world ‘you all have to behave this way and we’ll issue a regulation later.’”

Gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu is reportedly dead.

Osinachi, who became famous for her hit song, ‘Ekwueme,’ reportedly passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022.

The Imo State indigene reportedly died at 42.

Although there is no official confirmation yet from family members and close associates, the mother of four was said to have reportedly died in an Abuja hospital.

Osinachi was said to be battling an undisclosed ailment months before she passed on.

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said he would not endorse any presidential candidate because they were all like his “children”.

Responding to critics of the church’s establishment of a directorate of politics and governance, he told the congregation in a sermon broadcasted live to All RCCG parishes across the country, that they should not distract him from his role as a pastor.

Adeboye said: “Let me make it loud and clear. I am a pastor and I would never be a politician. I have never been and will never be.

“I am called to be a pastor. That is what God wants me to be. That is why I don’t carry a big title. He says to me clearly: you are to be a pastor.

“I am a pastor. I am not even a prophet. I only hear from Him once in a while. My assignment is to pray for you and pray for nations, including Nigeria. It has nothing to do with partisan politics. Don’t distract my attention.”

Adeboye said he had never campaigned for anyone or directed his members to vote for any candidate or join a particular political party.

“I have never told you this is the fellow you should vote for either in secret or the open.

“I have never said this is the party you should belong to. I will never say it. Why? Because every party is heavily represented in the church.

“If I vote for anyone, I will be unjust to every one of my children. I am the father of all and I like it that way,” he said.

Adeboye urged members to exercise their civic duties.

“All I am saying and I am saying it loud and clear: nobody is born a Christian. You are a Nigerian first. You have a duty to your country to register to vote and to make sure your vote will count.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has distanced herself from the information trending in the social media that RCCG is sponsoring a particular candidate for 2023 Presidential election.

Speaking on behalf of the Church, the Assistant General Overseer, Admin. and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said the Directorate of Politics and Governance is an RCCG internal instrument, created to help co-ordinate the engagement of RCCG members who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilise support for them.

He explained that the directorate was not set up in any way to insinuate or support a particular political aspirant as being referred to, adding that as would be expected, the Church has members that belong to several political parties, but would not itself get into partisan issues.

He added that RCCG as a big and dynamic Church considers herself one of the nation’s stakeholders and the work of the directorate is in direct response to the advisory of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to support the Church’s members on effective and efficient voter education and the discharge of their related civic rights and obligations.

He also remarked that RCCG as a big and dynamic Church considers it necessary to respond to the growing interest of its members in politics and governance by ensuring that their standing as law abiding citizens in all spheres of life is neither compromised nor fall below the standard expected of followers of Christ.

He also said that what RCCG is doing is not different from what other Churches like Catholic are doing to update their members with policies, laws and regulations regarding the polity and governance, adding that the Church does not promote the interest of one particular political party as members are expected to be in different parties and pass through necessary tutelage on how to conduct themselves in public office.

He concluded that RCCG will continue to offer spiritual and moral support to its members through prayers, encouragement, exhortation, counseling and moral instructions in line with its Christian Social Responsibility.
