4. NO SERIOUS RECORD LABEL WILL SIGN AN ARTISTE WITH NO BUZZ GET SOME BUZZ!
As a music promoter, I come across a lot of artists who want to get signed and they haven’t done any song of their own , not to talk of promoting it or branding themselves. If you are like them and you are expecting a record label to locate you and sign you , am sorry to inform you that you have been dreaming and you need to wake up!
I hear artists complain all the time that nobody is willing to help them but ask yourself, as a label owner, would you invest in someone you will not make any profit from? It was about 15years ago that a label will sign raw talent and process them over years to make them stars. In the Nigerian music industry today, you have to bring something to the table if you want to be sponsored or supported by anybody.

How I murdered my Student.

I was in class that fateful Friday afternoon teaching my students when she raised her hand to ask a question.

I permitted her and she asked a rather too simple question that I supposed she should know the answer.

I had already covered that topic the previous week. " Will you sit down there! With your Ugly face! Olodo!" was the only answer I gave her.

The whole class bursted into laughter and she looked embarrassed.

I went on with my lesson but felt somewhat guilty over what I had said.

I finished my class and left. On Sunday, I went to Church. The preacher was talking about the tongue and its power.

He spoke about how you could bring others down by what you say.

I remembered what happened on Friday and became guilty. I swore I was going to apologize to her on Monday when I got to the class.

On Monday afternoon, I went to the class but I didn't see her. I asked after her from her coursemates but they didn't seem to know who I was talking about.

I then said I was looking for the person I insulted on Friday. "Oh, that's Joy Sir!

She is not in class today" they answered. Who is her friend? I asked. "Aisha" they chorused.

But Aisha was not in the class either. Suddenly, a girl with Hijab walked in. "That's Aisha Sir" my students informed me.

Where is your friend? I asked her. "Which one?" She replied without looking at my face. Joy! I said.

The reply shocked me! She is in the mortuary Sir. Mortuary????? Doing what there?? I asked "She died on Friday Sir" Aisha replied.

How come?????? I later found out that after my class on Friday, Joy was hit by a fast moving vehicle.

She was crossing the road absentmindedly probably because of what I said.

" Her burial is on Saturday and you are invited Sir" Aisha continued.

As I stood trying to overcome the shock, Aisha said admist tears " you killed my friend Sir". She was right! I should be the murderer!

Some girls in the class were already crying! I didn't know what to say, whether to apologize to Joy's friend or Joy's ghost.

I submitted my resignation letter the next day.

Dear Lecturers and Teachers, please stop insulting your student.

They are in school to learn from you. If they already know, they won't be in school!

The Bible says that Life and Death lies in the tongue. Proverbs 18:21.

Please mind what you say to other people. Are your words bringing life or death to the hearers?

Before your think of record label, think of this!!!

Signing u as an artist to a record should not be your target as an upcoming artist who really want to make. Do u think those that got signed just happened like that. U need to be hard working and bringing out something different. Now do u think record label will just sign u like without making any effort . a record will only sign those who are really hard working and those who they think they have good values to add to the label. Record label will only want to sign u if only u never give up on yourself and u are hard working. Now come to think of it, slim case u all know today is not under any records today but he is making wave today, who don’t know him today. When u shout rubylemshi u will know how far he has gone. Even if any record want to sign him now do u think do think it will be a small record. If there is any records that is not up to his own standard he will not even give them attention talkmore of him accepting their proposal. Slim case is very hard working type. He knows what his fans need. He build his fan base very strong. Now if u were the one how many people do u think can vibe to your song when is been played. Have a change of about been signed to a label. U are the label that others can see then they will surely like working with u one day. Don’t forget that as u are been signed that is when u are prone to more challenges u most give ur fans what they need u have to keep dropping hits back to back. So before u get signed work hard and let big record label look for u. no matter how u are today don’t mind things around u. if u are good always keep ur fans updated by giving them hits. Because they all need to hear from u at least once in a month or once a blue a moon. Make sure u keep ur fans active and be ready to make them proud. I have many artists to mention but for now let me stop here.

Lastly the only thing that makes u shining star are:

You always make new friends of like minds.

You don’t form boss over others.

U always keep them happy most times they see u.

Work with hypemen who are capable of delivering your work.

Never look down on anyone in the industry because the street no get “OGA”.

Never neglect bloggers who have not gotten there , because those have made already don’t even have ur time to give u more attention. Those who are yet to be there will always give u nice job that u need. And they hype u to the fullest.
