A'IBOM GOVT TO PARTNER LAVENDER FARMS FOR EXPANSION
..donates utility vehicle to support young A'Ibom Agropreneur

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has demonstrated his commitment to the Agricultural Revolution aspect of his ARISE Agenda by partnering an indigenous company, Lavender Farms to scale up its farming operations.

On a visit to the Farm at Afaha Etok, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Governor Eno directed that the SSG, Prince Enobong Uwah and Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, should liaise with the farm management to explore possible areas of partnership to develop the farm, and also announced instant donation of utility vehicle to aid the farm's logistics.

The Governor said, he was proud of the Ikono born Managing Director of the farm, Ubong Inyang, stressing that his venture into agriculture was in line with the government's ARISE Agenda.

He commended Ubong's dedication to the running of the massive integrated farm venture and not depending on parents' achievements, despite his rich family background.

He called on other youths in the State and beyond to emulate such, as he reaffirmed government's commitment to creating a conducive environment for productive ventures to thrive in the state.

In his words, "I feel extremely proud of him. These are the kind of people I want to support. It is not just enough to blame government, start something; there is no one that would not love to support this kind of effort.

"We are already looking for areas we can support him to scale up. He has already said that he wants to scale up. That is why I came here with the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and SSG.

"As we conclude this inspection, we have observed that what he lacks now is a farm vehicle. So to encourage him beyond the partnership that we want to have, I am requesting the SSG to release one farm vehicle for him immediately to mark our visit" he added.

In expression of gratitude, Inyang said he was pleasantly surprised and elated to have the governor pay a visit to his farm.

He acknowledged the push by the Pastor Umo Eno- led government to encourage farming and entrepreneurship, as well as the atmosphere maintained in the State as strong inspiration for him.

Inyang expressed optimism that with government's support, he is sure to expand his farm's operations, while urging other Akwa Ibom youths to see agriculture as a lucrative venture.

So, after ruling Abia state for 8 years, Former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was expecting to receive pensions?

If he was not angry, why did he issue a press release about signing of the cancellation of pension for former governors by Governor Alex Otti?

Press Release

GOV ENO ASSENTS BULK PURCHASE, ASSETS MANAGEMENT AGENCY BILLS

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, today, signed the Bulk Purchase Agency and Assets Management and Maintenance Agency Bills recently passed by the State House of Assembly, into law.

Speaking during the Enlarged State Executive Council meeting at the EXCO Chambers, Governor Eno commended the leadership of the State House of Assembly for working to expeditiously pass the two bills.

The Bulk Purchase Bill, as the Governor has been saying, is a response by Government to the high cost of staple food items in the nation arising from some economic challenges currently being felt by Nigerians across social strata.

The Governor had stated that, “this is an intervention exercise, and the only way we can mitigate the suffering of our people, is to directly intervene. We believe the best vehicle for such intervention, was to set up an agency that will do a direct intervention in the market and get staple food items to our people at a reduced price. That is what the Bulk Purchase Agency seeks to address.

“Let me again, emphasize that this is an intervention exercise and not a permanent solution. The permanent solution is to return to the farm.

“That is why we will soon, set up an Agric Committee that will support our people with seedlings so they can return to the farm.

“This committee will work tirelessly to ultimately make our staple food items available at drastically reduced price range.

“ The second bill, seeks to create the State’s Assets Register, different and separate from Akwa Ibom State Road and Other Infrastructure Maintenance Agency, (AKROIMA) which as the name implies, is essentially for roads maintenance. We have to develop a strong maintenance culture. We can’t allow our assets to deteriorate.

“This bill also seeks to create an occupational safety department, in line with what obtains elsewhere.”

The signing of the bills was followed by a presentation of the key element of the Bulk Purchase Agency, which is the food voucher by the SSA on ICT Matters, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong.

A massive publicity on the working of this process will be further enhanced in the coming weeks.

All over the State, the people have commended and celebrated Governor Umo Eno for his people- centric initiatives, especially at this time of severe economic stress among Nigerians.

GOV ENO FELICITATES MUSLIMS AT RAMADAN

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has joined other leaders in wishing Muslim faithful a successful Ramadan.

In a message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno, stated thus “on behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, I join others in wishing our Muslim faithful a happy and rewarding Ramadan.

“Ramadan is a period for sacrifice, of compassion, of love and a display of the spirit of altruism and brotherhood.

“As the nation grapples with economic challenges, we have to come together as one people devoid of religious or cultural affiliations to support our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as he works to renew our faith and hope in the possibilities of tomorrow.

“We should be dedicated in fostering a spirit of tolerance across faiths and celebrate the rainbow of colours that define our diversity for national growth and renewal.

“Here in Akwa Ibom, we have had such a robust collaboration and support from our Muslim faithful and I wish to assure them that, together, we will continue to Arise and work to provide good and people- centric governance.”

A'IBOM GOVT BROKERS PARTNERSHIP DEAL WITH INDONESIA ON AGRICULTURE, AVIATION, ORS

Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda in Akwa Ibom State has continued to present prospects that draw the attention of the international community to the various sectors of the State's economy.

Latest of the prospects is the relationship brokered between the Republic of Indonesia and the subnational government of Akwa Ibom State for collaborations in the areas of agriculture, aviation, infrastructure, education, technology and trade.

Governor Umo Eno brokered the partnership when he played host to the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, AVM Usrah Hendra Harahap, who was on a courtesy visit to him at Government House , Uyo.

Welcoming the Indonesian Ambassador on behalf of the government and people of the State, Governor Eno expressed appreciation to the Ambassador for the interest of his government in Nigeria and by extension, Akwa Ibom, expressing confidence that the interaction marks the beginning of a long lasting relationship between the Republic of Indonesia and a subnational in Nigeria.

Governor Eno noted that with the current food crisis occasioned by the withdrawal of subsidy on petrol by the federal government, prioritizing agriculture, including the blue economy and other areas that would enhance food sufficiency has become necessary, hence the need to partner the Indonesian government that is already doing well in those areas.

"It is note worthy that agriculture contributes about 12.8% of our GDP, employing about 47% of the entire nation's workforce. So the global thing right now for us as a nation, particularly with the high cost of living associated with the removal of subsidy and other economic issues, is agriculture.

"Agriculture actually is on the front burner of our people right now and we know, like you also mentioned in your address, Indonesia has done very well in the area of agriculture. We'll like to partner with you, " Gov Eno said.

He further expressed appreciation for the offer by the Indonesian Ambassador to support the operation of Ibom Air with a CN235 aircraft and assured that he will confer with the management of the airline over the proposal.

In the area of technology, the governor said Akwa Ibom will particularly appreciate collaboration in the area of electric vehicles which, according to him, Indonesia was already doing very well too.

"In this era of carbon credit, we will like to work with countries and organizations that will help us with electric vehicles. So I look forward to personally working with you on that. We'll also like to see some cultural exchange between Akwa Ibom and Indonesia to build up our tourism potential," he added.

In his address, the Indonesian Ambassador, Usrah Hendra Harahap, stated that his visit underscores Indonesia's unwavering commitment to strengthening her diplomatic ties with Nigeria which, since 1965, has witnessed steady growth, acknowledging the significant contributions of Akwa Ibom State in fostering the relationship.

Affirming the desire of his government to further expand and deepen collaborations with Akwa Ibom, Mr Harahap lauded the state's potential for collaboration with Indonesia in several key sectors and stated that Indonesia remains committed to fostering a broad-based partnership with Akwa Ibom and welcomes the state government to explore potential collaborations in other sectors, such as education, healthcare, and trade.

"I would like to express Indonesia's keen interest in exploring new avenue of collaboration with the government of Akwa Ibom State: Indonesia is proud to offer the CN235 aircraft to Ibom Air. This versatile and reliable aircraft can significantly enhance domestic and regional connectivity, fostering economic growth and tourism in Akwa Ibom State.

"Indonesia has made significant advancements in coal-based fertilizer technology. We are eager to explore the potential application of this technology in Akwa Ibom, offering a cost-effective and efficient approach to enhancing agricultural productivity while promoting environmental sustainability, " he added.

GOV ENO RELEASES N779m WAEC FEES FOR 48,797 STUDENTS

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the release of N778,998,500 payment for the 2023/2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebiet who made this disclosure in an interview with newsmen in her office in Uyo, said the amount was initial payments for 48,797 candidates participating in the sub regional examination this year.

She gave the breakdown of the amount to cover NIN registration fee, biometric registration, funds for administrative cost, as well as 50% of the WASSCE fee.

She said that the increase in sundry charges for the examination has raised the yearly payment fee by the State Government from N1 billion - N1.5 billion.

She further noted that the West African School Examination fee hitherto was N18,000 naira, has been increased to N27,000.

“The release of the initial payment by the State Government is to enable the students to participate in the examination, and the Government is expected to pay a balance of over N700,000,000 in due course.”

The Education Boss commended the Governor for remaining committed to the welfare of students despite the apparent economic realities in the country, expressing the belief that students will work hard and justify the huge investments committed by Government to their course.

“You could recall that, very recently the Government had released additional N100 million to cater for bursary of students of Akwa Ibom State origin at various tertiary institutions across the country, while grants ranging from N250,000 - N350,000 had also been given to students with disabilities, starting with tertiary institutions.”

The Education Commissioner hinted that since the commencement of the bursary payment exercise, over 10,000 recipients have benefited from this exercise so far.

“We are open to collaboration with organisations that believe in Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda”

The Senior Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Brand Management and Marketing, Mr Raphael Edem has assured that his office is open to collaboration with organisations that believe in the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno

Mr Edem, who gave the assurance Tuesday when he played host to ARISE Ambassadors in his office, said that the task of promoting the Akwa Ibom brand was not for Department of Brand Management and Marketing alone.

The SSA stated that Governor Umo Eno has so far demonstrated genuine commitment towards fulfilling the promises in the ARISE AGENDA, adding that the governor’s first 100 days in office was highly commended.

He however noted that his office could do all the marketing and promotion of the state and government and would still not achieve the desired outcomes if other people are doing things that demarket the state.

“What people outside think about our state will be from the image we create,” he said. “What impression people have about us will not be created by outsiders”.

While commending the group for their efforts in promoting the ARISE Agenda, the SSA intimated members of the group on some of the programmes that his office is planning to undertake and solicited their collaboration.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the chairman, National Executive Council of ARISE Ambassadors, Mr Richard Peters disclosed that they decided to come together as a group to help spread the message of the ARISE Agenda to every part of the state.

Mr Peters further commended the Senior Special Assistant on Brand Management and Marketing for ensuring that the Akwa Ibom brand was enjoying good publicity beyond the state, adding that the group was glad to have Mr Edem serving in that capacity.

He also assured that as a group whose responsibility is to defend the Governor Umo Eno administration and the ARISE Agenda, they were open to support the Department in pushing its branding and marketing messages to a wider audience.

In his own remarks, the vice chairman, Board of Trustees of the group, Mr Joseph Okon further assured that the group will keep interfacing with the Department in promoting the ARISE Agenda.

Highpoint of the meeting was the presention of branded ARISE materials to members of the group by Mr Edem.

Waste Management Agency Terminates Contract of 30 Resource Persons over Non Performance
..reveal plans for immediate desilting of Atiku, Abak road axis

By Aluu Vincent

The Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, AKSEPWMA, has terminated the waste collection and evacuation contract of 30 Resource Persons, over non Performance, lackadaisical attitude and dereliction of duty.

The Chairman of the AKSEPWMA Board, Prince Akpan Ikim, made this disclosure during an impromptu visit to some of the evacuation sites, on Wednesday July 27, 2023, within Uyo Metropolis.

Prince Ikim expressed dissatisfaction over the heaps of refuse dotting the Metropolis even when the resource persons have been paid to evacuate them.

"It is unacceptable that we have heaps of refuse when every resource person has been fully paid. Payment for waste evacuation is done on first line charge. There is no reason for non Performance, lackadaisical attitude and dereliction of duty. If your vehicle is bad, why not replace them with another instead of portraying government as being inefficient. If you were the governor, how will you feel.about this? I won't let that happen. We will have to take a drastic decision on this" Ikim expressed

Fielding questions from one our reporters, Ikim said, "The resource persons are fond of abandoning their duty posts. They were not expecting to see me today thinking I was attending the Akwa Ibom Dialogue. I do not need to be around for them to do the job they were paid to do. I will not politics with waste management. I am not contesting for anything. If it is because of waste management that you will not vote for me assuming I am contesting, then keep your vote but do the job. Make sure you evacuate wastes daily. If you fail to do so after you have been paid, your contract will be terminated and the funds retreived"

While appreciating other resource persons for doing their job, he warned them to sit up and ensure that they evacuate wastes daily. He revealed plans of the Agency to appoint more hands to boost waste collection and evacuation adding that Akwa Ibom must remain the cleanest state in Nigeria.

On the Waste to wealth initiative, Ikim said in August, an independent committee will be set up to assess the bid documents of interested firms so that only competent hands will be approved to handle the task. He said the Arise Agenda of Governor Umo Eno is poised on ensuring that Akwa Ibom State takes full advantage of the benefits derived from waste to wealth initiative.

Ikim urged residents to ensure that they dispose their wastes only at approved locations and appropriate time to avoid running foul of the law. He also announced plans to commence immediate desilting of gutters along Atiku Abubakar and Abak road axis to free the water channels and allow for free flow of water.

E DON HAPPEN

MR. PRESIDENT, CONSIDER RELEASING MAZI NNAMDI KANU FROM DSS DETENTION

June 12, 2023

His Excellency
Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President and Commander in Chief
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Sir,

I write to convey my congratulations on your swearing in as the 16th President of Nigeria despite the fact that the odds did not favour you. I also join millions of Nigerians to felicitate with you on Democracy Day Celebration. So far, you have shown commitment to rebuilding Nigeria for the benefit of everyone. You have shown courage by removing fuel subsidy, ended crude oil swap deal, sacked the most corrupt CBN Governor in our nation's history and made few appointments to show the direction of your government.

While it is within your right to make appointments, take your time to read and apply the provisions of section 14 of the 1999 constitution as amended as well as Directive Principles of State policies. They will illuminate your sense of decisions.

In the spirit of Democracy Day Celebration, may I humbly request that His Excellency should kindly take a moment and consider releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the self styled leader of IPOB from the custody of the DSS.

Mr. President, it is true that government is next to God but what is the need using a sledge hammer to kill a fly when the hand could easily do the job? Several courts of the land have discharged and acquitted Mazi Kanu from all charges. It baffles me why the Dictatorial government of Rt General Buhari chose to remain adamant in releasing him. Muhammadu Buhari opted for war in place of peace. Where he ought to have sent text books and teachers,he sent armoured tanks and military weapons. You have shown to be a different kind of leader and the direct opposite of your predecessor. Posterity will be kind to you.

Your Excellency, I know you to be a democrat, man of peace who fought for the return to civil rule via NADECO. I know you loathe illegality.

Pursuant to the powers to exercise the prerogative of mercy vested in the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Section 175 (1—6) of the 1999 Constitution, kindly approve that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu be released in the interest of peace, unity and national cohesion that has eluded the South East for long. It may interest you to note that the fragile peace in the zone can be remedied through his unconditional release especially as the courts have ruled to that effect.

Few days ago, Enugu State Governor Mr Peter Mba paid you a visit and pleaded that you release Nnamdi Kanu in the interest of peace. Mr. President, please accede to that demand and open up the process of national healing. This action will go a long way to add legitimacy to your government and arrest the restiveness and the sit at home order foisted on the people against their wish.

I also feel that Your Excellency should look into the issues raised by IPOB and find merit in some of their demands which contributed to the start of the Biafran war in the 1970s. Issues of marginalisation, underfunding of the South East, under representation in terms of appointments, imbalance in terms of number of states and local governments, among others, should be looked into on the merit of it. Mr. President should consider setting up the South East Development Commission as was done for the Niger Delta Region and recently North East. Since after the war, no deliberate effort has been made by government to pay reparations or rebuild the South East. What is good for the geese is good for the gander.

Finally, Mr. President should not fail to order for the arrest Hadi Sirika, former aviation Minister for defrauding Nigerians of billions of Naira in the name of setting up Nigeria Air and all those who looted Nigeria dry under the Buhari government.

God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
