Gaius Chibueze Announces Relocation of Businesses Over what he called IPOB Threats, Vows to Continue Push for ‘Make Ala Igbo Great Again’

Nigerian businessman and cryptocurrency investor, Gaius Chibueze, has announced plans to relocate his businesses from the Southeast to other parts of Nigeria following alleged threats to his life and companies.

In a statement, Chibueze alleged that the threats came from Chinasa Nworu and other members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He linked the development to a speech he delivered at the World Igbo Congress Convention, where he urged Igbo people in the diaspora to stop funding what he described as “homegrown terror!!sts.”

Chibueze said the decision to move his investments out of the region was necessary for his safety and continuity of business. He also disclosed that he would remain in the United States for the time being.

“To make Ala Igbo great again, one has to first be alive and prosperous,” he said, stressing that the threats would not be taken lightly. According to him, groups behind such threats have a history of att@cking fellow Igbo people who disagree with their positions.

The businessman reaffirmed his commitment to his long-standing campaign, tagged “Make Ala Igbo Great Again (MAIGA).”

Breaking News: Former Imo State House of Assembly member, Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, who once represented Okigwe State Constituency, has regained his freedom after being kidn@pped by the dreaded gang led by “Gentle the Yahoo.”

Recall that Hon. Ogbu was abducted after he visited the gang’s camp to negotiate for peace, so he could bury a deceased relative without disturbances. Despite collecting money from him, the gang reneged on their promise, detained him, and took him deep into their camp in the bush.

Gentle the Yahoo and his second-in-command, “Angel Make Up,” had earlier released a video parading the lawmaker, threatening to kill him if the Imo State Government did not withdraw security operatives from Okigwe.

However, in a swift and well-coordinated commando operation, the Nigerian Army stormed the gang’s camp in Aku, Okigwe. The operation led to the elimination of Gentle the Yahoo, Angel Make Up, and several other members of the group. Over 12 captives, including Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, were rescued alive.

IPOB Denies Link to South-East Insecurity, Distances Itself from ‘Gentle de Yahoo’

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly denied repeated claims by Nigerian security agencies linking it to the rising wave of v!olence and crimin@lity in the South-East, including the recent arrest of a suspected criminal kingpin known as Gentle de Yahoo.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, IPOB spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, accused the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Police of using the media to push what he described as “propaganda and satanic lies” against the movement.

According to Powerful, security agencies have made it a routine to blame IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), whenever they fail in their duties.

“It has become the cheapest trick in Nigeria: whenever the DSS, Army, or Police bungle in their responsibilities, they quickly fabricate headlines such as ‘IPOB/ESN commander arrested.’ Today it is kidnapping, tomorrow it will be armed robbery, and next week they may even blame IPOB for floods or road accidents,” he said.

The group stressed that it is a peaceful self-determination movement and not a criminal organisation. IPOB insisted that it has never engaged in kidnapping, terrorism, or banditry, but is only advocating for the freedom and dignity of the Igbo people.

Reacting to the Army’s claim that the arrested suspect Gentle de Yahoo was an IPOB/ESN commander, the group said the individual himself had publicly denied being a member.

The statement further alleged that Nigerian authorities are deliberately trying to demonise both IPOB and the Igbo people at large. It pointed to incidents such as the attacks on Igbo voters during elections in Lagos as examples of anti-Igbo sentiment.

“We are not kidn@ppers, we are not crimin@ls, we are not terrorists. Our only ‘crime’ is saying no to slavery and injustice,” IPOB said.

The pro-Biafra movement also warned that linking its name to every security challenge in the region is not only misleading but destructive to truth.

IPOB, founded by Nnamdi Kanu, was proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian government in 2017 under former President Muhammadu Buhari — a designation the group continues to contest, alongside international human rights organisations.

The Eastern Security Network (ESN), launched in 2020 to defend communities from violent herdsmen attacks, has been accused by authorities of involvement in armed clashes and attacks on security operatives. IPOB, however, has consistently denied those allegations, maintaining its commitment to a non-violent struggle for Biafra.

Preachers must submit sermon for approval in Niger state.

Niger State Governor Umar Bago has said that preachers in the state must submit their sermons for approval before preaching.

The governor appeared on TVC’s Politics on Sunday to clarify some aspects of the law seeking to regulate preaching in the state.

He said: “I didn’t ban evangelism… For everyone going to sermon on Friday, he should bring his scriptures for review, and it’s normal. Even in Saudi Arabia, this is done. We cannot say because you have been given the opportunity to be a cleric, you will go out and preach the gospel that is anti-people, anti-government and you think it’s normal.”

Asked if it was out of fear of indoctrination, the governor said, “It’s in that direction. We want to be able to see what they are preaching, hear what they are saying. We are working together with security agencies; the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the military.”

Recall that the new directive first became public earlier in the month.

The Director General of the Niger State Religious Affairs, Umar Farooq, had said anyone interested in preaching in Niger must obtain a licence, adding that preachers had two months to obtain their licences.

Farooq said: “It is true, the State Government has banned preaching. Any preacher who wants to preach must secure a licence between now and the next two months.

“All they need to do is to visit our office, get, and fill out the form. After which, they will have to face a panel that will screen them before they can start preaching.”
