From all indications, the Government has agreed to exempt varsity lecturers from the IPPIS platform. After weeks of negotiations and foot-dragging, the Federal Government on Friday accepted the demand by the Academic Staff Union of Universities that they be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System. A date has been fixed for the trial of some lecturers indicted for financial impropriety. The academics are lecturers in the department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ibadan. It was reported last year how the financial transactions of a conference meant for the department were enmeshed in controversy and allegations of misappropriation.
