Mark Zuckerberg's Meta has announced that it is creating a new social media app that lets users share character-limited posts to take on Elon Musk's Twitter.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed the 'standalone decentralized social network' to Reuters, stating that 'there is an opportunity for a separate space' for people to share updates about their interests.

The app's name is unknown, but it will be based on a similar framework that powers Mastodon, a Twitter-like service launched in 2016.

A Twitter-like app would allow Meta to take advantage of the current chaos at the Musk-led company, where cost-cutting and layoffs have been rampant.

MoneyControl reported Thursday about Meta's Twitter competitor, stating it is codenamed 'P92.'

The app would be Instagram-branded, allowing users to register with the same credentials, people familiar with the matter told MoneyControl.

President Buhari, today Saturday, March 4, has arrived in Doha ahead of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LCDs), which starts tomorrow in Qatar’s capital city. Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, says the conference which is from 5th to 9th March, 2023 under the theme: "From Potential to Prosperity," holds once in a decade and provides an opportunity to garner the support of the international community for accelerating sustainable development in the LDCs as well as assist them make progress towards achieving prosperity.

In Doha, President Buhari will reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to support the most vulnerable countries to meet their development challenges, highlighting areas through which the Nigerian government has provided them with various forms of assistance over time.

‘’As most of these countries struggle to find sustainable solutions to challenges of poverty, adverse effects of climate change, food and energy crisis as well as high-debt burden among others, the Nigerian leader will vigorously reiterate the need for sustainable solutions for countries facing these severe challenges.

The Summit will be attended by world leaders, the private sector, civil society and youth organisations. It aims to share developmental ideas and mobilize political will, solidarity, action and solutions to transform the LDCs, by finding sustainable solutions to the challenges of poverty, food insecurity, hunger, weak or non-existent infrastructure, inadequate health facilities, climate change among others as they struggle to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.''

Garba mentioned that President Buhari’s delegation includes some Ministers and top government officials who are expected to use the opportunity of the visit to sign some agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with the Qatari government.

The President is expected to return to the country on Wednesday, March 8.

We don’t have enough paper to print new naira notes — CBN

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has said the apex bank does not have the capacity to print adequate new naira notes.

Premium Times reports that Emefiele made the disclosure on Friday, February 10, when he briefed the emergency meeting of the National Council of State.

According to the report, Emefiele said that the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (The Mint), suffers capacity constraints, resulting in the failure to print adequate new notes to replace the old N200, N500 and 1,000 notes.

“The Mint has run out of papers to print N500 and 1,000 notes. They have placed orders with a German firm and De La Rue of the UK (for papers) but they have been placed on a long waiting list, so their orders cannot be met now.

The Mint had received CBN’s request to print 70million copies of the new notes, totalling N126billion to be pumped into circulation by today (yesterday), The Mint doesn’t have the capacity,” a source said.

Unknown g¥nmen have att@cked and k three policemen attached to Delta State government house, Asaba, SaharaReporters is reporting.

The three officers from the department of Explo$ive Ordinance Device, Delta State Police Command, were k on Friday, February 10, in the Ihiala LGA of Anambra State on the governor’s way to Abia State.

The deceased police officers identified as Inspectors Lucky Aleh, Celestine Nwadiokwu and Jude Obuh, were k by unknown g¥nmen at about 1.30pm and their vehicle set abl@ze.

“Four officers were in the vehicle but one was on m***i (not on uniform) so he was freed while the three in uniform were k . The Es**rt commander from the Government House, Asaba, was sent to bring their corpses and deposit in a mortuary in Asaba,” a Government House source confided in SaharaReporters.

Contacted on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), of Anambra State command, Ikenga Tochukeu, confirmed the incident, adding that, “We got distress calls and we rushed to the scene of the incident. The policemen who were k are from the Delta state command and were on transit as at the time of the incident.”

South African rapper, Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, was shot dead last night and the second man who was gunned down with him has been identified as one of his best friends and former manager, Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane.

Tebello was standing outside Wish Restaurant with AKA and others when gunmen in two cars opened fire, killing both men and injuring another man said to be AKA's bodyguard.

Tebello managed AKA many years ago before deciding on a new career path and becoming a chef.

The duo and others had flown into Durban on Friday, Feb 10th to celebrate AKA's birthday and perform at a club when the tragic incident happened.

2023 Elections: ‘Death is not my portion’, Toyin Abraham reacts to fake obituary video

Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, has reacted to a fake obituary video of her that was shared on social media because of her choice of candidate in the upcoming election.

She shared the screenshot of the obituary post that was posted on YouTube via her Instagram account on Friday.

The headline of the video read, “R.I.P Actress Toyin Abraham dèath news clash over naira notes and 2023 elections.”

The actress, who has declared her support for the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu, said that it is no longer democratic if a decision cannot be made freely.

She wrote, “It is no more democracy if you don’t allow people to make their decision freely.

“Everyone can not see things from your own angle ONLY. Bullying, harassing and threatening people’s life because they disagree with you on personal choice shouldn’t be encouraged at all.

“Why would anyone put this out there? Why? Why should anyone wish others bad because they made a different choice? Why? Death is not my portion in Jesus’ name.”

Former Premier League footballer, Peter Ndlovu has claimed that he cannot afford to pay 568 in child support for two of his children because he has 11 other kids.

Ndlovu, 49, who played in the Premier League for Coventry and also represented Birmingham, Huddersfield and Sheffield United, has become embroiled in a legal battle with the mother of the two children.

She wants Ndlovu to pay her 1,420 a month, but the Johannesburg High Court ruled that he should pay her 568 a month, according to The Sun.

Ndlovu, who in 1992 became the first African player to feature in the newly-formed Premier League stated that he has had no contact with the two children and hasn't spoken to their mother since their conception.

Ndlovu told the court: 'I have 13 children, including the two children I have with the first respondent.

'I'm obliged to contribute and see to the maintenance needs of all 13 of my children.

'I earn a monthly salary that is utilised for my own living expenses, needs, necessities, and liabilities as well as to contribute to the dependents' expenses and other obligations. As a result of these encounters, two minor children were born between the respondent and me.

'I was not informed by the respondent about the pregnancies or the subsequent births of our children. The last I heard of the children was when she instituted maintenance proceedings against me in 2016.'

Ndlovu was eager to stress that he cannot afford to pay the requested child maintenance fees.

He said: 'There is no communication between the respondent and me. We share no relationship and there is no contact between us. 'I cannot simply afford a deduction of R29,845 per month from my salary.'

The ex-Zimbabwe international was already more than 4,300 in maintenance arrears, according to reports.

Ndlovu finished his career in Africa, playing for Mamelodi Sundowns, Thanda Royal Zulu, Highfield United, and Black Mambas. He then became the assistant manager of Zimbabwe, for whom he made 100 appearances as a player. Ndlovu was most recently the team manager of Mamelodi Sundowns from 2013 to 2015.

Traditionalist arrested for being in possession of h¥man sk¥ll in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected rit¥alist, 38-year-old Abdulrahman Woru, with a h¥man sk¥ll at Babana, Borgu Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, who resides in Babana, is from Gbesewona village of Benin Republic.
The Police stated this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna.

He said the suspect was arrested on 24 January 2023 based on a tip-off. He explained that the suspect was arrested at Babana after he was suspected of being of possession of a h¥man sk¥ll. According to him, “when a search was conducted in his house a h¥man sk¥ll, three pieces of suspected h¥man ribs, two idols and cash sum of 5000 CFA of Benin Rep currency were recovered.

During interrogation, he confessed that the h¥man sk¥ll recovered belonged to him. He claimed that he migrated from Benin Republic to Nigeria about four years ago for his business, without any immigration document, and that he is a traditional medicine practitioner.”

Abiodun also said the suspect further claimed that he recently travelled to Benin Rep, and while entering Nigeria, he saw a bag on the road with the sk¥ll in it. “The suspect said he tied it on his motorcycle and took it home, because he believed it will be useful for his work, and he did not report to the Police,” the state Police spokesman disclosed.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu has said that the logistics arrangement for the general elections scheduled to hold on February 25 and March 11, might be affected by the current fuel scarcity in the country.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with transport unions such as the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), amongst others on Tuesday, January 31, Mahmood said the commission will meet the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to look into ways to ameliorate the situation.

The INEC Chairman said;

"The commission shares your concern about the fuel situation in the country and its impact on transportation on election day.

"The truth is that our arrangement may be negatively affected by the non-availability of products.

"For this reason, the commission will this afternoon meet the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to look into ways to ameliorate this situation."

Nollywood actress and producer, Toyin Abraham, has opened up about her life and spiritual gifts.

She made the revelation in a chat with ThisDay.

She said: "I’m extremely spiritual. One of the problems I had back then was that I didn’t listen to myself. I would hear the voice of the Lord, and I would see it in my dreams, but I would still want to follow my flesh.

"But ever since I started following the lead of the Holy Spirit, things have drastically changed for me and I’m extremely happy about it. I’m actually dada – those people that naturally have dreadlocks from birth. Since birth, I have been spiritual.

"My parents told me that I was stillborn so they had to throw me away. Then there was a clergyman from Ibadan who came to the hospital and asked about me and I was brought back to life. I was told that I never cried or did anything until the day of my naming ceremony.

"It was the moment they named me Oluwatoyin that I started crying as a baby.

"Again, when they wanted to shave off my locs they had to tell me it was the Holy Spirit because I didn’t want them to do it."

She further stated that there are voices in her head.

She explained: "I decided to have a small circle because there was too much noise in my head. There is always noise around me, both positive and negative. I am not a careful person. My heart is so free. I am someone you can trust with anything. You can do whatever you want to do in my presence."

Because of her spiritual gifts, Toyin said she attended a Bible college to prepare her for a life as a religious leader. However, everything changed when she was discovered by Nollywood actress Bukky Wright in Ibadan. She starred in her first movie in 2003.

The Oyo State Police Command have apprehended and paraded three security men who connived to gang-rape a lady in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, who paraded the suspects before newsmen at the command headquarters in Eleyele on Monday, said a lady (name withheld), went to visit her friend at Alakia, Ibadan, and on getting to the community around 9pm was accosted at a desolate spot by three-night security guards.

“In a rather twisted turn of events, the young lady, having been dispossessed of her mobile phone, was whisked to another desolate spot, where she was held till about 01.25 am the next day.

“In furtherance of the above, the three guards took turns to have unlawful carnal knowledge of the young lady and as well forced her to transfer money into a bank account before she was abandoned to her fate at the scene”, he stated.

A Kenyan landlord has put up his tenant's underwear for auction following a row over rent he's being owed.

The auction notice appeared in the local dailies on Monday, January 30, 2023. Nyaluoyo Auctioneers said they were instructed by the landlord of one Zachariah Sichenje Masika, to auction 4 men’s underwear and 4 female underwear belonging to the tenant, to recover the rent he's being owed.

The public auction will take place at the firm's yard in Kisumu. Terms of sale are cash at the fall of the hammer.

The notice has since gone viral with netizens poking fun at the auctioneering company and the landlord over the peculiar advert.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that no single administration can solve all of Nigeria's challenges.

The President said this during a national dialogue on security, economy and administration of justice organized by the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja, on Monday, January 30.

Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the event said;

“ I would say no one government in this country would be able to solve the problems of Nigeria. But as we build on the precedent set by successive governments, not discarding completely what has been put in place, we would in the course of our desire to build a Nigeria of our dreams, be able to pick one or two things, on which we can concentrate and move.

”As a government, the outcome of this dialogue can be transmitted to us so that whatever resolutions are reached, that would become part of the documents that would prepare as we transit and hand over to an incoming government.”

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a popular Kano TikTok skit maker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya.

Murja was arrested at the Tahir Hotel in Kano while trying to book rooms for her guests who came from different places to attend her much-publicised birthday party.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Sunday night, January 29, 2023, Murja was arrested following complaints from clerics that she uses vulgar language and corrupts the morals of the society in her videos.

Her arrest followed a request from a Shari'ah Court in Bichi to the state's commissioner of police to arrest and investigate her alongside other TikTok users.

The other TikTok users included in the request letter were Mr 442, Safara’u, Dan Maraya, Amude Booth, Kawu Dan Sarki, Ado Gwanja, Ummi Shakira, Samha Inuwa and Babiana.

The letter reads partly: “Sequel to the complaint lodged by Muhd Ali Hamza Esq, Abba Mahmud, Esq, Sunusi I. Umar Esq, Abba, A.T Bebeji Esq, B.I Usman Esq, Muhd Nasir Esq, L.T Dayi Esq, G.A Badawi & Badamasi Suleiman Gandu Esq, I am directed by the presiding Upper Sharia Court Judge, Bichi Division Kano to write and kindly request you to conduct investigation against the above mentioned suspects for proper action."

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda has ordered that the suspect undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Auto crash kills Pregnant woman, eight others in Kwara. A private vehicle filled with petrol (PMS) Keg on Sunday morning was involved in a multiple auto crash with another alleged overspeeding commercial passenger bus, in Ilorin during which a pregnant woman and eight others were burnt to death. Eight others were said to have survived the crash with multiple burnt injuries. According to information the multiple fatal accident, occurred at the Ilorin International Airport road along Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway at about 8:00 am. One of the vehicles involved which carried kegs filled with petrol is ash colour Toyota Corolla car with vehicle registration number LRN 787 FE whose driver had no national drivers licence. Also, involved is the second vehicle which is a white colour Toyota Hiace commercial bus, whose driver had no national driver’s licence.
