This is to educate our people who have successfully linked their Subscriber Identification Number (SIM) cards with the National Identification Number (NIN) database, because most of us don't know the implications of this linkage!
Meanwhile, there are some secrets behind this linkage program, as mandated by the Nigeria government under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy; which has to do with the security management of our great country.
Majority of our people, who have effected and those who are yet to effect the linkage of their SIM card(s) on the NIN database don't know that after the successful linkage, any involvement in any form of criminal activity or carelessness may lead them into serious trouble, including untimely jail terms .
Therefore, if you have successfully linked your SIM card(s) with the NIN database, you must take note of the fact that you are now naked before the security agents! Hence, the need to carefully protect your SIM card(s) from any security breach, even more than the way you protect your BVN and ATM PIN.
Please, note that if you misplaced, or lost your BVN and ATM PIN, the worse that could happen is for you to loose your funds with the bank(s). But, if you venture loose your telephone handset(s), and SIM card(s), you may end up in prison unknowingly!
So, if you have successfully linked your SIM card(s) with the NIN database, please, watch out for any of the following 5 precautionary measures:-
1. Don't help people register their SIM card(s).
2. Be mindful how you handover your telephone handset(s) to people to make calls or send texts, or placed anywhere carelessly. It must always be with you because it is a mobile phone and it is meant for you only.
3. To guide against fradulent tendencies, stop allowing anybody to use your phone to login into any account on the social media. Or, use your phone to create anything.
4. Note that your “SIM card(s)”, is as important as your ATM card, PIN, and BVN. You must not disclose any OTP (One Time Password) sent to you by your Service Providers to anyone, even your family member(s).
5. Don't disclose your National Identification Number (NIN) to anyone.
Note that you will be responsible for whatever wrong/offense someone else committed while using your SIM card(s). So, be very vigilant.
