Stay Away From Bayelsa Election, PDP Tells APC National Chair

Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strongly condemns the planned visit of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, to the state less than 24 hours to Saturday’s governorship poll.

The PDP said the visit will excerbate the already tense security situation in the state.

In a statement on Friday, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ebiye Ogoli, said the Party is at a loss and shocked that Mr. Ganduje plans to visit the state when the INEC-stipulated period for campaigns by political parties elapsed midnight of Thursday, November 9, 2023.

PDP also noted that the APC National Chairman is not an international or local observer accredited for Saturday’s election neither is he coming to cast his ballot in Bayelsa being a registered voter in faraway Kano State.

Ganduje’s presence in Bayelsa would only confirm the allegation that the APC has concluded plans to dollarise the election, compromise the electorate and the electoral umpire.

“Our Party restates our belief that Nigeria deserves better and is in dire need of responsible leaders and statesmen that will move the country on the path of true democracy, peace, progress and accerelated development

“Our country needs leaders whose actions would stimulate good governance and bequeath moral decency to advance the course of democracy and not those whose stock-in-trade is to steal, kill and destroy during election,” Ogoli said.

In the light of the above, we urge the APC Chairman to shelve his unwholesome visit.

We remind Mr. Ganduje that there are already security breaches and his visit should not cause more problems that will worsen the already volatile situation.

We state unequivocally that PDP in Bayelsa will not hold its arms and allow anybody, no matter how highly placed, to manipulate the process in the election governorship.

As a matter of fact, our Party states in clear terms that anyone who attempts to rig or manipulate the election might have to deal with the legitimate wrath of the people.

The PDP reaffirms that all indices from several Entrance Polls indicate that our candidate, His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri is leading and will sweep the governorship election in all the eight local government areas of the State.

Bayelsa Guber: Desperation in APC as Ganduje plots to undermine President Tinubu, compromise security

Information reaching us indicates that the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, is in a desperate move to compromise the Governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Ganduje is planning to enter Bayelsa State to manipulate the system against the directive of President Bola Tinubu and the top security chiefs who have assured free, fair and peaceful poll.

Ganduje, fully aware that Mr. President is out of the country is possibly acting a personal script to undermine the President's directive.

The Bayelsa's electorate are worried because of Ganduje's antecedents and any attempt to thwart the will of the people would be vehemently resisted

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri have been conferred with a Chieftaincy title by HRH Chief Ayibakuro Peter Ogidi Oke, Pere the 4th, Amananaowei of Oporoma Kingdom, on behalf of all the Kings of Southern Ijaw, as the "Uwou fini-owei-1".

The classified title which means "the one who opened the road to Southern Ijaw LGA" is in recognition of his led Prosperity Government's contributions to the sustainable development of the communities and people of Southern Ijaw, especially the construction of the ongoing Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road.

... Deputy Governor Appreciates Bayelsans for their Support.

Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens Football Clubs, winners of the men and women's competitions of this year's AITEO Cup were on Monday accorded a heroic welcome upon their return from Benin City.

The jubilant crowd received both teams and the state delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, at the entry point into Yenagoa amid solidarity songs and dancing.

A statement by the media aide to the deputy governor, Mr Doubara Atasi, noted that the procession started from the Igbogene Gateway and terminated at Peace Park opposite Government House where a mammoth crowd was waiting for the teams.

Addressing the crowd, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo expressed gratitude to the people of the state for the warm reception accorded them.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo assured that a formal celebration will be organized for the players of both teams by Governor Douye Diri who was unavoidably absent.

He also appreciated players of both teams for their superlative performance, which made it possible for them to win the female and male categories of the FA cup, making history as the only state to achieve that feat in Nigeria.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo attributed the success to the miracle of God that ushered him and Governor Diri into office, saying since their assumption it has been one miracle after another.

His words: We are not celebrating yet because the sun does not dry a cloth and take it, what we went to do in Benin was to dry a cloth, the Governor who is the owner of the cloth will come and take it.

"When we told them the pair of Douye Diri and Lawrence is miracle, they thought we were joking, now it is happening. We want to thank you for your prayers, for your support. we also want to thank especially the players, they have fulfilled their part of the bargain, we will do our part.

"Today we have created history by winning both trophies for the first time and we are grateful to God for his mercies upon the state. Since we came into office we have been creating records in sports".

Senator Ewhrudjakpo thanked members of the political class and other Bayelsans who were in Benin to cheer the team to victory, saying their support contributed to the victory.

The Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Senator Moses Cleopas, House of Assembly members, Commissioners, Special Advisers, the Chairman Bayelsa Civil Service Commission and member Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Dr Peter Singabelle were part of the state delegation who cheered the teams to victory.

BAYELSA TO DECLARE PUBLIC HOLIDAY TO HONOUR BAYELSA QUEENS AND BAYELSA UNITED.

Bayelsa State Government is to declare a public holiday in the State in honour of Bayelsa Queens and Bayelsa United following their emergence as Champions of the Men and Women’s competitions of the 2021 AITEO Cup.

Governor Douye Diri made this known when he visited players and officials of Bayelsa Queens and Bayelsa United in the teams’ camp in Benin City shortly after their victories in the tournament.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo praised the heroic achievements of the teams, describing them as heroes and heroines that Bayelsans are proud of.

Senator Diri said the success of Bayelsa Queens and Bayelsa United were as a result of the handiwork of God and the dedication and commitment of the players and officials of the teams as well as the prayers and support of the people of the State.

Ewhrudjakpo said: "His Excellency has said because of what you have done we are going to declare a Public Holiday in Bayelsa State to receive and welcome you back home.I told you that the spirit of Bayelsa is never intimidated, never conquered.

" I told you that you will come to Benin with the spirit of the Crocodile to conquer the land and the waters. I told you that you will come with the spirit of the power of the Leopard. You have come, conquered and you have made us very proud.”

“His Excellency said I should wish you all the best and send his congratulations to you. He has spoken to us all this night.So we are here as a mark of further support to you. So relax and enjoy yourselves this night after your great achievements”

‘We want to give thanks and glory to God Almighty for this double victory. God has again performed His miracle. When we say we are the Miracle Governor and Deputy Governor People thought we were joking.

"We said we were coming to Benin to win the two Cups and that is what we have done. The Governor told me go there, conquer and return and we have come, we have conquered and we are returning”.

Also, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Senator Moses Cleopas noted that the victory of the teams was as a result of the mercies of God, hailing the team for preparing adequately for the triumph.

According to Senator Cleopas, both teams had written their names in gold and the people of Bayelsa State and Nigeria will not forget them.

The member representing Kolokuma-Opokuma Constituency One in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Isenah praised the team for their hardwork, describing their victory as success meeting preparation with a crowning by God.

He explained that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere was pleased and excited with the achievement.

Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Sports and member representing Ekeremor Constituency One, Tare Porri congratulated the teams for the double victory which he described as unprecedented in the history of the State, asserting that it was a justification of the Appropriation made to the clubs by the Assembly.

He pledged that all that is needed to support for the teams to succeed next season would be duly appropriated.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Mightyman Ayekuro stressed that the double honours achieved by the teams in the AITEO Cup has made Bayelsa the capital of football in the country, emphasizing that the secret of the success story was the motivation by Governor Douye Diri and the Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

On the delegation of the Deputy Governor to the AITEO Cup final were five Commissioners, ten House of Assembly members, state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Solomon Aguanana and other top officials of the state government.

Both State owned teams made history at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, venue of the final match by clinching the titles for the first time as Bayelsa Queens defeated FC Robo Queens of Lagos 4-2 while Bayelsa United triumphed 4-3 on penalty shoot outs against Nasarawa United after both teams battled to a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.

The only Bayelsa State based team to have previously won the competition formerly known as Federation, FA, Challenge and Governor’s Cup were Ocean Boys who beat Gombe United 7-6 on penalties after a 2-2 regulation time scores.

BAYELSA GOVT ASSURES ITS FOOTBALL CLUBS NEW BUSES, OTHER SUPPORT NEXT SEASON

Bayelsa's two main football clubs, the Bayelsa United and the Bayelsa Queens Football Clubs are to receive brand new buses before the commencement of the next football league season.

The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, disclosed this on Wednesday at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa while giving a pre-match pep talk to the players, coaches and officials of the two teams, ahead of their Aiteo FA Cup final matches billed for Sunday this week.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who said the two teams had made Bayelsa proud for getting to the final of the FA Cup, assured them that they would have their buses as part of government efforts to boost their morale before, during and after every league season.

The Deputy Governor who said he was at the stadium to encourage the teams, lauded them for their perseverance and assured them of government's full support towards winning the two final matches billed to hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City.

"We want to thank you for your show of confidence and perseverance. Initially we were afraid with the way things were going, thinking you will crash out at the group stages of the competition, but you all survived. You have shown that you are Bayelsans in spirit and in physical.

"The state is proud of you; the government is proud of you. I decided to personally come to witness this last training session and speak to you and encourage you. The best way to ask a person to do more is to thank him and encourage him.

"We will ensure that before the next football league season starts, the two teams will have their buses, because the best way to tell somebody thank you is to reward them positively for the feat achieved."

Senator Ewhrudjakpo assured the teams that he would personally be at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City, to cheer them to victory, even as he expressed the confidence that the two home sides would gain promotion at the end of the current league season.

His words: "On Sunday, I am not going to send any person. I am going to be there live and direct to support and cheer them up. I will lead a powerful delegation of commissioners, House of Assembly members and local government chairmen. We want to tell you that we are solidly behind you.

"We are not just proud of your achievements in the FA Cup, but we are confident that our teams, Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens, will triumph on Sunday."

Senator Ewhrudjakpo added that government was happy at the sports fortunes of the state, having been placed third position in the last National Sports Festival with an unprecedented haul of medals.

He remarked that sports was a veritable tool in creating not only employment opportunities but also as a way of turning youths away from social vices.

Bayelsa United FC eliminated Rivers United to get to the final stage while Nasarawa United in what appears an epic final.

In the women category, Bayelsa Queens FC who defeated Rivers Angels in the semi-final are billed to take on Robo Queens of Lagos.

Both matches hold this weekend on Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

At the 2021 Annual General Meeting/ Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Medical Association (AGM), Bayelsa State Branch in Yenagoa with the theme: "Insecurity & Medical Practice in Nigeria: A critical analysis", the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, representing the Governor, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, dissuaded Medical Practitioners from emigrating to other countries, arguing that Nigeria in spite of prevailing security challenges remains one of the safest countries to live in.

While measuring the negative implications of insecurity on delivery of medical services and, its resultant effects on humans' health, His Excellency reiterated that it's indisputable that "security is every one responsibility" and it's the collective efforts of all and sundry that would reduce the menace to its bare-minimum.

He enjoined Bayelsans to report criminal activities in their neighbourhood to assist Government in fighting crime and criminality in the state, adding that insecurity affects every part of society.
