Gov Okpebholo signs revised N486bn Appropriation Bill into law

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially signed the revised Appropriation Bill of N485.63 billion into law. This marks a significant move by the new administration to ensure rapid implementation of developmental projects.

The budget, as approved by the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), is divided into N202.65 billion for recurrent expenditures and N282.99 billion for capital projects.

Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, commended lawmakers for their swift action in passing the Bill, which he believes will set the tone for transformative governance.

He stated: “I want to thank you for your cooperation and the speedy passage of this bill. With this momentum, Edo State is set to experience remarkable development. I see a team of dedicated individuals ready to work for the betterment of our state.”

Speaker of the EDHA, Honorable Blessing Agbebaku, alongside other lawmakers, attended the signing ceremony held at the Executive Council Chamber.

Agbebaku emphasised the legislature’s commitment to supporting the administration’s vision and ensuring continuity in government.

He noted: “The 8th Assembly expedited the passage of this appropriation law to allow the new administration to commence its projects without delay. Government is a continuum, and we are committed to fostering development for the people of Edo State.”

The Bill, initially presented on November 13, 2024, underwent accelerated deliberations, underscoring the collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government.

EFCC Chair Olukoyede Reveals Distressing Corruption in Power Sector, Says Findings Are Lamentable. The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed that the extent of corruption within the power sector is profoundly disturbing. Olukoyede made this revelation during an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes to the EFCC's headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, November 12. 'The ongoing investigations in the power sector are so alarming that they could move one to tears. Contracts were awarded for the supply of electricity equipment, but instead of utilizing the required 9.0 gauge, inferior 5.0 gauge materials were used, leading to frequent equipment failure and collapse.'

ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER CHEQUES TO WIDOWS OF SLAIN SECURITY PERSONNEL.

The Abia State government says it will continue to make the welfare of the families of security personnel who died in active service in the state a top priority.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba who stated this at Government House Umuahia, while handing over cheques to the deceased spouses, said the money is solely to cater for the educational needs of their children.

Pastor Ajagba also explained that the gesture is in fulfillment of Governor Alex Otti's promise to the bereaved families when he visited them and pledged governments continued support towards the welfare of their families.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor urged the children of the deceased to ensure they reciprocate the gesture by taking their studies more seriously, adding that government will see them through school up to university level.

He further disclosed that government will also monitor the general wellbeing of the affected families to ensure that the wives of the deceased security personnel are meaningfully engaged.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Unamka Olachi thanked Governor Alex Otti for his magnanimity and promised that the funds will be utilized for the sole purpose for which it was meant for.

The Chief Security Officer to the Governor, CSP Ken Nwosu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Chinedum Nwosu, the Director of Administration, Government House, Umuahia, Dr Nwaomiko Udo-Nwokocha and her Finance counterpart, Mrs Onyedikachi Charity-Ogwo witnessed the event.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has declared his intention to present the state’s 2025 budget to the State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.

Fubara delivered this remark during the official inauguration of two state-of-the-art community town halls, as well as the introduction of a tertiary scholarship and empowerment initiative launched by the Speaker for the Akiama and Aganya communities in the Bonny Local Government Area on Saturday.

He said, “The government and the people of Rivers State heartily congratulate you and thank you for being a good ambassador of the Ibani Kingdom. We assure you that, as the executive arm, while the legislative arm remains independent, we will continue to collaborate to ensure prosperity for our people.

“I thank you, Mr Speaker, for your support to the Rivers State government, as seen in your cooperation. The Speaker has facilitated the screening of caretaker committee chairmen, expedited executive requests, and will soon play a vital role in enacting the 2025 budget.

“Constituency projects are a testament to elected representatives’ commitment to their people. Meanwhile, the 25 former Assembly members who dismissed themselves — have they initiated any projects? Do we see them inspecting or commissioning anything? These are Abuja-based politicians!”

The League Management body has issued a verdict regarding Plateau United's unsporting conduct during yesterday's NPFL Day 11 match, imposing the following penalties: a deduction of 3 points and 3 goals from their accumulated totals; playing their next three home games behind closed doors; a fine of N4M for inadequate security; and compensation fees of N250,000 each to Rangers' player Daniel Onyia and match official Zakari Aminu.

The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended 19-year-old Aliyu Yaro for allegedly murdering his three-day-old infant son. Yaro, a resident of Kwacham Ward in Mubi North Local Government, was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, of committing the crime. During interrogation, Yaro confessed to the offense and led authorities to the burial site where the remains were exhumed. He stated that he had impregnated Safiya and, after she gave birth, she requested his presence. Yaro claimed he visited Safiya's residence at night, took the infant, and sent her on an errand to fetch water. He then buried the co**se in the Girpata area of Mubi around 9:00 pm. Commissioner of Police Morris Dankombo has expressed concern and ordered the case be transferred to CID for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed all State Councils to initiate a strike on December 1, 2024, in states where the national minimum wage has not been fully implemented by November 30.

In a statement, NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero condemned the failure of some state governments to comply with the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, especially given the rising economic hardships.

Comrade Ajaero also demanded appropriate pricing of petrol and called for the prompt restoration of domestic refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna to full operation.

Come let me school you, Incase you have forgotten. It is the duty of PARENTS to provide, and make sure their children don't lack anything.✍️

The child does not belong to your husband alone, neither do they belongs to you alone, they belongs to you both.

And paying their fess is not a favor to their father. Your a parent and your doing what a parent is supposed to do, it's not a big deal.✍️

Making your children to feel loved and making sure they don't lack anything is not the duty of your husband, it is the duty of PARENTS.✅

Paying your children school fess is not an abominat!on, it is your duty as their parents.

This one of the reasons you should try as much as possible to marry a female soldier.
