Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is believed to have travelled out of Nigeria to Europe after making some revelations about some stalwarts of his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

DAILY POST gathered that the Governor left the country at midnight on Friday to a yet to be verified country in Europe.

The mission of the Governor in Europe was not immediately known but it is public knowledge that in recent times Wike has been a frequent visitor to London for political reasons.

The Governor, who has been in the eye of the storm over the crisis rocking PDP, made stunning allegations against the national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu. He alleged that Ayu took N1billion bribe from one of the presidential aspirants for the May 28 PDP convention.

Wike had addressed a televised media chat earlier on Friday in Government House, Port Harcourt, where he opened what can be termed a can of worms.

The Governor is believed to have jetted out of the State in a chartered flight from the Port Harcourt International Airport at about midnight on Friday.

A source in Government House, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the governor’s trip out of the country but could not come clear with the actual destination.

Oga travelled last night around 12 midnight but I can’t say exactly where he is going to,” the source revealed.

The Spokesperson of the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Festus Keyamo has said that the name of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was missing from the campaign council list due to the directive given by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Keyamo, in a statement issued on Saturday, said Buhari had directed that the names of Osinbajo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha be excluded to allow them to concentrate on governance.
He said all the key functionaries of government cannot abandon their positions for electioneering campaigns.

The spokesperson stressed that the ruling APC had the mandate of the Nigerian people to administer the country on their behalf at least till May 29, 2023, and that the party intends to do so with all sense of responsibility.

He said: “Our attention has been drawn to some stories making the rounds that there may be something amiss within the family of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the name of our own revered and respected Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, is not included in the list of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

“Nothing can be farther from the facts. For the avoidance of doubt, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, is the Chairman of the Campaign Council. As a result, Mr. President has SPECIFICALLY directed that the Vice-President and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha should be left out of the Campaign Council to concentrate on the governance of the country and administration of Government.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on its frailties and staff of their affairs.

Tinubu in a statement by Director, Media and Publicity of his Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, Friday mocked Atiku and PDP over the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike’s revealing media chat.

APC said “Once again, another bid for the presidency of our country by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is slipping away. This is unraveling before our very eyes even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) blows the whistle for electioneering campaign. His party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in disarray. The signs are just too ominous for the Waziri Adamawa with the report by the Economic Intelligence Unit predicting another trashing for him in the forthcoming polls.

After violating his party’s code for power rotation between the north and south and grabbing the PDP ticket without a modicum of sensibilities about our national ethos, Alhaji Atiku is now faced with the karma of his inordinate ambition”.
Reacting through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Friday, Atiku described Tinubu and APC as busy bodies.

The former Vice President described the APC state on issues pertaining to developments within the PDP as a laughable work of an interloper.
He said instead for APC to focus on its credibility and acceptability issues, they are poking their nose into PDP internal affairs.

The statement read in part, “Well, since the APC Presidential Campaign Organization seems to have woken up from their state of hibernation, it is good to remind them that there are pending questions about the social and educational history of their candidate that Nigerians want answers to

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has claimed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, offered him a senatorial ticket when they met in London, United Kingdom.

Wike revealed this during a media chat on Friday morning.

The governor arranged the chat in a bid to address the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party.

According to Wike, he contested the presidential primaries because he wanted to be the candidate, so he didn’t buy a senatorial form.
“I didn’t contest so I can become a vice presidential candidate.

“I am not like others who were not serious and bought senatorial form alongside presidential form, and that’s why when Tinubu offered me senate slot, I didn’t go for it.”

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Thursday called for an emergency stakeholders meeting of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This is the first of its kind since after his botched presidential ambition and subsequent internal crisis rocking the party across the country.

Although the agenda for the meeting was not disclosed, it may not be unconnected with a state directive on the next line of action after Wike and his strategic team pulled out of the presidential campaign council of the party’s presidential candidate, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

Those invited to the meeting are party leaders, members of the state executive council, the party’s local government chairmen and a few other stalwarts.

Recall that the governor who believes he was betrayed following the results of the presidential primary and Atiku’s declaration while picking his vice presidential running mate had vowed to open up on some issues leading to the crisis.

Also, Wike was quoted as saying, “Nothing has happened yet, but something will soon happen.”
As of the time of filing this report, invitees are still arriving at the Rivers State Government House.

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar said the call for the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu resignation is a decision that only he can consider.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and some other Southerners pulled out of Atiku’s campaign.

They demanded that Ayu should resign for a Southern to take over before they can join Atiku’s campaign.

Atiku in a statement Wednesday said he was surprised at the action of Wike and others to withdraw from his campaign.

The former Vice President insisted that if Ayu is to be removed from office, it must be done in accordance with the laws.

It is time, therefore, to move on with the formidable tasks of nation building ahead of us, Atiku noted.
The statement read in part “early this morning, my attention was drawn to a news clip in which several very senior and influential members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), addressed the press and, amongst other things, declared that they are withdrawing, forthwith, from the Presidential Campaign Council set up by our party to judiciously plan and prosecute the general elections set to hold in February and March 2023, on the one hand; and reiterated their earlier calls for the resignation or removal from office of the national chairman of our party, Senator Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, on the other hand

The people that addressed the press must have their reasons for withdrawing from the Presidential Campaign Council, and I will not speculate as to what those reasons may be.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State said it had uncovered plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to induce voters.

The opposition on Monday said the ruling party was set to purchase Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2023 elections.

State Chairman Garba Diso, and Secretary, Hamisu Sadi Ali, issued communiqué at the end of a workshop for NNPP candidates for federal and state offices.

The party noted that for the first time in the history of governance in the state, “the incumbent turned government affairs into a family affair, as seen in government policies and appointments”.

NNPP accused the Abdullahi Ganduje government of abandoning its primary responsibilities of protecting lives and properties “by being myopic and driven by sentiments, emotions, vendetta, and self-enrichment.”
It urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the names of all uncollected PVCs to create awareness for the rightful owners to claim them.

The communique lamented the closure and de-boarding of unity schools, non-payment of examination fees to WAEC, NECO, and NBAIS; delayed and non-payment of scholarship allowances to foreign/local students, and a non-educationally friendly environment.

The NNPP also decried the increasing “land grabbing, and dubious allocations and selling of land to intentionally deface Kano State.”

The government of Governor Ganduje intentionally allowed these illegal practices with government approval which have resulted in flooding, building collapse and even death.”

Top party officials are set to meet three of the governors who are currently at loggerheads with the party leadership.

As part of efforts to resolve the lingering crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the reconciliatory team will meet Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and his counterpart in Benue state, Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday, September 19, 2022.

The acting chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees and former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara disclosed this in an interview with The Punch.

“We will be going to Adamawa State tomorrow (today) to meet with Governor Fintiri and from there we will meet with Governor Ortom. I am on the road now to meet with Prof Jerry Gana. We are trying our best to ensure that peace is achieved and victory will be ours in 2023.

“We will soothe aggrieved nerves and come with something that will be acceptable to everyone,” he said.

Speaking on his recent tour in the southwest to pacify aggrieved members of the party, Wabara said the PDP has not made much progress following his meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde who is among the party chieftains calling for the removal of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

“After we met with the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, I won’t say we are making progress but we are talking to our governors and the parties concerned. We should give and take, and pacify but because I have not reported to the BoT members, I can’t make a categorical statement. We have to talk to our members and whatever we come up with will be the position of the BoT,” In a bid to pacify aggrieved members of the party, Wabara said that within 48 hours, he would lead a delegation of the PDP BoT, comprising some former governors, ex-deputy governors, ex-ministers, and other top party chieftains.

18/09/2022

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, over 13,000 All Progressives Congress, APC, members in Kaduna State, on Saturday, in Zonkwa, defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Speaking during the defection ceremony in Zonkwa, Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Hon. Felix Hassan Hyat, who described the defection as symbolic and historical, noted that the good work of the opposition party will help it win the governorship election in the coming year.

According to him, the only PDP stronghold in the entire North-west Zone was in Southern Kaduna.
He regretted that Southern Kaduna, under the ruling party, had experienced infrastructural deficit and a high level of insecurity, noting that the region only enjoyed federal appointments and infrastructural development during the PDP administration.

The PDP National Youth Leader, Hon. Mohammed Kadede, said the new members had taken a wise decision, having realised that PDP was the party that Nigerians needed come 2023, to rescue them from the APC’s regime, and expressed confidence that the PDP would win the elections from the state level to the national level in 2023.

Treasurer of the opposition party, North-West, Hon. Rabiu Bakori, who formally received the new members on behalf of the North-West Zonal PDP Chairman, Sen. Hayyatu Gwarzo, in Zonkwa, on Saturday, noted that if the PDP must win the 2023 elections, every member must put in his/her best, adding that the ruling party had in 2015 promised to enhance security, but have ended up enhancing fears in the minds of Nigerians.

He said Kaduna residents must work hard to ensure that PDP wins at the polls to ensure justice, fairness, and true democratic values.

17/09/2022

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, on Saturday, warned the state government that no attack, threat, or harassment of the spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who unraveled an alleged electoral heist, would be tolerated.

The PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Collins Opurozor, gave the warning in a statement in Owerri, Imo State.

The party was reacting to last Friday’s outburst, where the state government, through the Commissioner for Information and strategy, Mr. Declan Emelumba, was reacting to allegations of inflation of names and figures of registered voters leveled against the state.

Recall that the government called on relevant security agencies to arrest and investigate the CUPP and its spokesperson to ascertain his source of information.

PDP, in a swift reaction, said, “Not a single hair shall fall from his head, not a scratch found on his body. Apart from recommending that Ikenga Ugochinyere should be jailed for displaying such patriotism that has never been seen in modern Nigeria, Governor Hope Uzodinma further sought to drag our candidate into the insecurity miasma in Imo State.

What is pressing to quickly state is that, by yet again politicizing the horrible security situation in the Imo and attempting to bring our candidate into it, our suspicion is further enriched, that the bloodshed in parts of Imo is willfully left to fester by the Governor so as to profit from it and destroy his perceived political foes.

Imo PDP, therefore, warns that no attack, threat, or harassment of Ikenga Ugochinyere by the failed regime of APC in Imo State will be tolerated. Not a single hair shall fall from his head, not a scratch found on his body.

16/09/2022

Kashim Shettima, the running mate to Bola Tinubu, has clarified his reference to Nigeria’s former Head of State, Sani Abacha.

Tinubu and Shettima are on a joint ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 elections.

The Borno Central Senator is under fire for suggesting that Nigeria needs the type of Abacha’s leadership.
In a statement on Friday, Shettima noted that his views were distorted “to settle partisan scores”.

The former Borno State governor said the video of his speech in Lagos is in the public for those curious.
“I never attributed hospitality to Abacha in my speech”, the APC vice presidential candidate asserted.

I did a rundown of our past presidents and played up “the taciturnity and a dose of ruthlessness of a Sani Abacha”.

Shettima said his comment meant strongmen are needed “to deal with the nonstate actors who’ve turned Nigeria into a vast killing-field”.
“I was quick to tease the audience, appreciating the humour hovering around the hall, with the familiar jibe that nice men don’t make good leaders.

“By nice men I meant those who get easily manipulated and pressured to divert state resources to appeal to private expectations”, he added.

16/09/2022

Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, on Thursday, claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu would defeat all other candidates in the forthcoming 2023 election.

The staunch supporter of Tinubu said in a statement that the Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi’s supporters would be disgraced at the poll.
He said, “Peter the liar Obi and his garrulous, gullible and fascistic Obidients who believe that no one has the right to disagree with them, oppose their candidate or change their opinion on national issues, will know their fate as early as 12.00 noon on the day of the election.

By noon on that day, it will be clear to them that their support base is negligible, that they cannot be counted amongst the big boys and that their candidate never had a hope in hell of coming within the top three let alone winning from the outset”.
According to him, the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso would defeat Obi and his supporters “hands down and cause Peter to trail behind him and come a distant fourth”.

FFK also rubbished the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, saying Tinubu will flog the former vice president at the poll.

He said, “Meanwhile the only serious contender in the field, Atiku Ibn Dubai, AKA the Waziri of Abu Dhabi, and his sorry set of court jesters, puerile comedians, miserable misfits, archaic tacticians and nebulous cheerleaders will know by 2.00pm on that day that the die is cast.

“By 2.00pm on that day, they will accept the incontrovertible and indisputable fact that Nyesome Wike has damaged them to such an extent that they are not even fit for battle, that they cannot come close to us and that they are utterly incapable of putting up a good fight

16/09/2022

A prominent member and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, has said the lingering crisis bedevilling the party might cause its defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

George disclosed this while speaking with journalists during the week in Lagos.

He said he supports the call for Iyorchia Ayu to quit his position as the party’s National Chairman.
“We should not allow any sentiment – ethnicity or religion to divide us. Unfortunately, with what we are presently witnessing, our party may lose the next presidential election if we continue to disregard or fail to address the feeling and grievances of ‘alienation’ being presently experienced by the entire Southern population of this great country.

If this issue is dismissed, we cannot expect votes from them.
“Until this party returns to the founding fathers’ principles of unity, with equity, fairness and justice being the pedestal for any political decision taken in this party, and ensuring broad-mindedness to accommodate the concerns of all zones in this country, PDP becomes vulnerable to disaster in the 2023 elections,” he said.

15/09/2022

Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, the Kaduna state gubernatorial candidate, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, has observed that having a clear presidential winner in accordance with the electoral guidelines on the first ballot might be difficult.

He opined that in a free, fair and transparent 2023 general elections, no political party big or small should be underrated as any surprises could spring up to emerge victorious.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna, the gubernatorial candidate stated that now that the presidential candidates are being given religious and ethnic colouration, any of the presidential candidates securing a 25 percent in 25 states might be an herculean task in the first ballot.

According to him, it does not appear any party today in Nigeria, including NNPP may make it in the first election, stressing that there might have to be a run off as the law requires some scores from the total votes cast minimum, in a required minimum number of states apart from simple majority scored.

He feared, “I feel no one party, no one candidate may be able to make it and that is why the laws of elections permits for a re-run.”
He is of the view that it would be difficult for any political party to claim victory in the 36 states in the country, saying that to win election, the candidate needs 25 per cent of votes in minimum of 25 states.

He noted, “Nigeria is too big a polity, it is a big pot, when boiling, you can never say, you can never tell, the polity is erratic. From where is APC and PDP going to gathered what you are talking about? Count, look around. If you are talking about what the polity use to be before, it was just two parties, APC and PDP.”

DAILY POST gathered that Oyeleke is currently representing Ogo-oluwa/Surulere.

He was elected in 2019 to represent the constituency on the platform of APC.

The lawmaker, who recently joined PDP has now been officially received by the PDP members in the assembly.
DAILY POST reports that Oyeleke was presented with the People’s Democratic Party, PDP flag at the brief ceremony held at the House of Assembly.

His letter was read by the Clerk of the House of Assembly, Mrs Oludara Awe,
Oyeleke in the defection letter said, “APC in Oyo State has failed to uphold the tenets of democracy especially as it relates to justice and equity in its dealings with party faithful. I can’t continue to be in a party that does not value my interest and that of my supporters.

“The PDP has shown great potential in Oyo State and it remains the party to beat at all levels in 2023.”

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin while welcoming the lawmaker to PDP applauded his resolve to join the PDP in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections, Atiku Abubakar has promised to lead Nigeria out of darkness by stimulating growth that will create jobs and wage war against hunger if elected into power.

The former vice President made the pledge at the Private sector economic forum on the 2023 presidential election, which was hosted in Commerce House, Victoria Island Lagos on Tuesday, by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In an address presented by the President of the Chamber, Dr Michael Olawale Cole, he warmly welcomed the participants and enumerated the status of LCCI which was established in 1888 as the foremost Chamber of Commerce and Industry in West Africa, representing over 70% of private sector organizations in Nigeria.

In his words, the President stated that “while the Chamber is non-partisan, we are however interested in the economic agenda of the candidates and their plans to make a better Nigeria in the next dispensation”.
He promised that members of LCCI wish to contribute in setting a new economic order that can take the Nigerian economy from the doldrums and reemphasized that the gathering was necessary in order to fashion out new policy directions, institutional reforms and sound governance as critical elements toward creating a new economic order in Nigeria.

In his presentation titled “Nigeria dresses in borrowed robes”, the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar used the opportunity to acknowledge the President and members of the Chamber for initiating such an intellectual gathering where germane issues affecting the growth of the country are discussed.

He stated how comfortable he was in the midst of captains of industry, entrepreneurs and businessmen and women which as a private sector person, it was like a home coming to him which he simply defined as a meeting of like minds.
