LATE ALHAJI ALAMU TATALO (BÀBÁ 'N' ÌBÀDÀN)
Late Alamu Tatalo pioneered "Dundun" genre of African traditional music. "Atun Ata lo si gbegiri ana which literally means
" The One who blends fresh pepper to remaining yesterday beans stew" was simple addressed as Tatalo.
Dundun genre of music is basically expression of philosophical Yoruba thoughts with traditional African percussion. Born and raised in Ibadan, Tatalo Alamu captured the entertainment scene in the 50s and early 60s.
Like many other Yoruba Entertainers during his time, Talalo was under the record label of Babalaje Records whose Proprietor was the late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji Ajeoguguluso 1, who also discovered and promoted Dauda Akanmu Epo-Akara, Wasiu Ayinde K1, Sule Alao Malaika among others.
During his time, Talalo Alamu had a main rival in Agboluaje another popular musician that reigned in the Ibadan entertainment scene.
While his reign reached a crescendo, Tatalo had a unique voice with which he serenaded his numerous fans. Through his several compelling performances, Dundun became a money spinning genre of music and several upcoming Artists had a stinct in the genre of music.
The profile of Talalo intimidated his rivals who were envious of him to the extent of a conspiracy. A dead body was planted at his backyard and the litigation that followed had devastating effects on his music career. He was eventually discharge and acquitted and thereafter released many hit LPs to "peeper his rivals".
Talalo Alamu who was a fantastic Dresser was particularly known for his expensive necklace. He died on March 8th, 1985, he left a legacy of evergreen music and his children are enjoying heavy royalties from Babalaje Records as a dividend of his intellectual property.
