Sanusi Return As Emir Of kano: Concerns As Protesters Block National Assembly, Presidential Villa Gate, Demand President Tinubu’s Intervention to Avert Breakdown of Law and Order

A group of concerned citizens and stakeholders across the country gathered on Friday at the Presidential Villa and the National Assembly Abuja, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing crisis affecting the Kano Emirate.

The protesters, who marched peacefully, carried signs and banners expressing their concerns about the escalating situation in Kano. They urged President Tinubu to use his good offices to resolve the crisis and ensure the restoration of peace and stability in the state.

Recall that Governor Abba Yusuf dissolved the five Emirates Council and reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano. This came after the governor signed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.

Under the auspices of the Concerned Patriots of Nigeria, the group said Governor Yusuf has taken his abuse of office to another level by dissolving the traditional council.

The Concerned Patriots of Nigeria, therefore, condemned the actions of the Kano State Governor in the strongest terms possible given its anti-reason disposition.

BREAKING: Kano Assembly Repeals Emirates Council Law

The Kano state house of assembly has passed Kano emirates council law (repeal bill) 2024 after scaling 3rd reading.

The law has abrogated establishment of 5 new Emirates in the state.

All offices established under the repealed law have been set aside by the new bill.

Also all district heads elevated or appointed under the repealed law are to revert to their previous positions.

The Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment number 2) Law, 2024, was sponsored by the Majority Leader and member representing the Dala Constituency, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa.

The law which created five new emirates was first assented to by ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on December 5, 2019.

The governor assented to an amendment to the law on 14 October, 2020 and signed another amendment on 11 April, 2023.

Section 3(1) of the law established five distinct emirates; Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye, with Kano and Karaye having eight local government areas of jurisdiction each, while Bichi and Gaya emirates share 9 local government areas of jurisdiction each, Rano Emirate enjoys jurisdiction over 10 local government areas out of the 44 local councils in the state.

When Emir Muhammadu Sanusi, who chaired the council, was deposed on March 9, 2020, the law was amended to read: “There shall be the chairman of the council who shall be the emir, Kano Emirate”.

Section 12 provides that the governor may grade the office of an emir first, second, or third class subject to the approval of the House of Assembly.

A principal officer of the assembly, who did not want his name mentioned, said “no Jupiter can stop the assembly from amending the law.”

OKO-JUMBO EMERGES NEW RIVERS ASSEMBLY SPEAKER, SOKARI AS LEADER
Promise Transparency In Legislative Duties

The member representing Bonny State Constituency, Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, has emerged as the new Speaker of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly.

He was elected on Wednesday at 10am during plenary, in line with the Standing Order of the House.

In his acceptance speech, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, thanked the members for electing him as the new Speaker sequel to the resignation of the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie.

Speaking on the floor of the House, Oko-Jumbo said: "This is in line with Section 92(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (CFRN 1999) as Amended.

"You will agree with me that after the House last sat on the 13th of December, 2023, and adjourned sine dine, there has been an avalanche of legislative rascality perpetrated by the 25 former members of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, led by the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule.

"These former members, being fully aware of the provisions of Section 109(1)(g) of the CFRN 1999, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC) on the 11th of December, 2023.

"Consequently, the Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie-led Assembly, on the 13th of December, 2023, wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declaring the seats of the 25 lawmakers vacant in line with Section 109(1)(g) and (2) of the CFRN 1999.

"My distinguished colleagues, there are a plethora of cases pending in our courts further to the defection of the former lawmakers."

Rt. Hon. Oko-Jumbo emphasised: "All laws, plenary sessions and actions taken by the illegal House members are hereby declared void and a nullity in the eyes of the law by virtue of the judgment of Lord Denning in the celebrated case of MacFoy v UAC (1961) 3 All ER 1169.

"Lord Denning held in that case that you cannot put something on nothing

FUBARA MOVES TO RESTORE DIGNITY OF RIVERS ASSEMBLY QUARTERS
Says New Speaker Has Emerged
Inspects Emohua-Kalabari Road

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has explained that his visit to the residential quarters of the State House of Assembly is to undertake on-the-spot assessment of condition of the structures for a possible rehabilitation work to restore its status and make liveable.

Governor Fubara gave the explanation after he inspecting the
15.24 kilometers long Emohua - Abalama -Tema Junction dual carriageway road project on Thursday.

The Governor said: "Is the Assembly quarters not part of my property? Is there anything wrong in going to check how things are going on there?

"You are aware of the developments. We have a new speaker, and I went there to see for my myself how things are. There might be a few things I might want to do there for the good of our people."

The Governor, who took a walk round the facility, said that he decided to visit the place to get better appreciation of what needs to be done to make the quarters conducive for lawmakers.

Commenting on the road project, Governor Fubara said he was assessing the extent of job that had been done to know what else was needed in preparing the road for commissioning during his one year anniversary.

He said, "As a matter of fact, we added this section of the road as one of the projects we will be commissioning. So, I needed to see it myself, and what is remaining is just the lighting. By the grace of God, we will commission it."

Governor Fubara pointed out that the road project was inherited from the immediate past administration but a greater chunk of the cost was borne by his administration.

He said: "We feel justified to add it as our project and to commission it for the good of our people here.

"Governance is all about the people. When the people are out of the centre of governance, then it is no longer governance.

"So, this road, as we all now know, was in a very bad.

Court stops Fubara led Rivers govt from withholding Local Govt allocations

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, barred the Rivers State Government from withholding financial allocations of the 23 Local Government Areas, LGAs, in the state, pending the determination of a suit that was brought before it.

The court, in the ruling that was delivered by Justice James Omotosho, further directed parties in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/537/2024, which was filed by LGA Chairmen in the state and nine others, to maintain status quo, pending the determination of the matter.

More so, it stopped the Inspector General of Police IGP, Police Commissioner in Rivers, Director General, State Security Service, SSS and its Director, who were cited as defendants in the matter, from withdrawing the security personnel of the LG Chairmen, pending the final resolution of the their motion on notice.

The ruling followed an ex-parte application the plaintiffs argued through their lawyer, Mr. Aliyu Hussein.

Justice Omotosho held that the Rivers State Government should not frustrate or prevent the LG Chairmen from discharging their duties and rendering services to their respective councils till the determination of the suit.

Specifically, the plaintiffs approached the court, praying it for an order of interim injunction to restrain the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Chairman, Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Rivers State Government, Attorney General of Rivers and Commissioner for Finance, from witholding the revenue accrued to them.

They also sought order of the court to restrain the IGP, Commissioner of Police in Rivers, the SSS, its Director, SSS in Rivers and the AGF, from withdrawing the security personnel attached to them.

They equally prayed the court to prohibit the defendants from preventing the enforcement or implementation of the newly amended Rivers State Local Government Law N:5 of 2024 pending the determination of the motion.

Tanzania Shuts Down 5 Hydroelectric Stations Over Excess Electricity Production

Tanzania🇹🇿 has shut down its five hydroelectric stations in a bid to reduce excess electricity in the national grid.

The country's main plant, Mwalimu Nyerere Hydroelectric Station, has alone generated enough electricity to power major cities, including Dar es Salaam, the country’s commercial hub.

"We have turned off all these stations because the demand is low and the electricity production is too much, we have no allocation now, “ an official from state-run power company, Tanesco, said.

The 2,115 megawatt (MW) Julius Nyerere hydropower dam is said to be almost full with water, following heavy rains that started early this year.

Authorities in February switched on the first turbine with a capacity of 235 MW of a new hydroelectric plant to double power generation capacity and help reduce months-long power rationing.

It is the first time , which suffers chronic power shortages, has closed hydroelectric stations due to excess production.

Stop Disrupting Yahaya Bello Fundamental Human Right!! More Than 500 Lawyers Storm Supreme Court Condemned EFCC's Abuse Of Judicial Process

No fewer than 500 legal practitioners from across the country, Monday, stormed the Supreme Court in condemnation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) “illegal” approach against former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello.

In a statement signed by its co-convener S.K Alewu, the group lamented the EFCC’s attempt to arrest the former governor despite being served a valid court order that restrains them from doing so.

Alewu said not only has Bello’s fundamental rights been breached, he said the judiciary has become willing tools in the hands of enemies of our rule of law.

The lawyers, therefore, urged the Nigerian Judicial Council and President Bola Tinubu to call the EFCC to order to stop further abuse and disobedience of court orders
