APC names Abiola Ajimobi as acting national Chairman after court suspended Oshiomole.

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed former Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, as the acting National Chairman of the party.



This is coming after the Court of Appeal upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomole as the National Chairman of the APC.



The party announced Ajimobi's appointment in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu. Read the statement below

''The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress has received the news indicating the Appeal Court has upheld the suspension of the Party’s National Chairman,Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an FCT High Court pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman.

According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”.

Edo State governor Obaseki resigns from APCEdo State Governor on Tuesday resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki announced his resignation after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The governor was disqualified by a panel set up by the party from recontesting in the governorship election.

APC’s screening committee for the Edo State governorship election, led by Professor Jonathan Ayuba, said Obaseki was unfit to contest the election after submitting the report of the screening conducted on the governor, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Dr Pius Odubu, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Osaro Obazee, and Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.Apart from Obaseki, two other aspirants were also screened out by the APC. Ize-Iyamu and two other aspirants were, however, cleared to participate in the primaries.

Ayuba said Obaseki was disqualified on the grounds that his academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates were “defective”.

Reacting to his disqualification, Obaseki said he will not appeal the decision.

Obaseki, in a statement by his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, described the screening exercise as a mockery of the democratic process.Despite the announced reason for Obaseki’s disqualification, the party chairman Adams Oshiomhole is alleged to be behind his successor’s predicament over unresolved issues.

Affirming Obaseki’s disqualification, Oshiomhole said, “We are just following our party constitution. We have a screening committee, they turned out a report.”

Obaseki since then has turned to governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-South for support. He has met with Nyesom Wike, Rivers State governor and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, who have declared their support for the embattled governor.

Although Obaseki has not announced his next move, his recent association with governors of the opposition party suggests he might announce his defection to the PDP before the end of the week.Despite the announced reason for Obaseki’s disqualification, the party chairman Adams Oshiomhole is alleged to be behind his successor’s predicament over unresolved issues.

Boko Haram Killed 81 In Borno For Revealing Their Location To Soldiers.

The spokesman of the defence headquarters, John Enenche has revealed that the dreaded Boko Haram sect killed no fewer than 81 people in Borno state last week as punishment for revealing their locations to the military.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, he added that another attack which occurred in Katsina where 40 people were killed was primarily due to the fact that the residents in the areas had informed the military about the location of the sect.
He then lamented that lack of credible intelligence has been hampering the victory of the military over insurgents.He said: “A lot of people didn’t know that what we saw a couple of days ago …in Borno and Katsina states where about 81 were killed and about 40 others…. The remote reasons for those actions was that ‘you gave our positions away to the military’ and they used other excuses to pounce on them. And that has been the major challenge.

“If we had the cooperation from the general public particularly from those communities and localities where those terrorists, criminals and bandits operate from in cells and hibernation, we would have long before now completed the degradation.“The overarching strategy was to decimate, which we completed as far back as September 2016, and then to dominate the area, after which we occupy. All of them have their legs.

“When they started volunteering information, the rate of success at both fronts increased rapidly. And as the clearance operations were ongoing, both from the ground operations and air strikes, it was based on human intelligence, information.”
