Thomas, who pleaded to the alleged offences of " possession of and culpable homicide", narrated that he m¥rdered Ushahemba and father of 2 while defending himself.

While being arraigned before the Chief I on Wednesday, August 2, the defendant said that he murdered the victim while defending himself. He said he was the one who brought up the deceased following the demise of his father, and that he had been having a running battle with him since he grew up and engaged in selling of such illicit substances.

According to Thomas, he warned the deceased on several occasions to the extent of reporting him to the hunters' union and the police in Toungo for him to stop dealing in the substances but to no avail.  He said upon his return from farm on that fateful day, he met the deceased in the company of his friends Indian **p and trying to erect a tent where he will sell the substances.

According to him, he stopped them from erecting the tent, but out of provocation, the deceased entered the house and armed himself with a cutlass, and confronted him in an attempt to attack him. He averred that he accidentally fired a gunshot while trying to defend himself from being hit with the cutlass as a result of which the deceased fell down. 

The deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

After the defendant's plea, the , S.S. Nicholas, informed the court that the investigation had been concluded and that the matter is adjourned to enable them transmit case file to DPP for advice.

The court presided by Chief Magistrate Mohammed Buba, granted the application and adjourned the matter to August 23, 2022.

The , NDLEA has confirmed the of the owner of a m**h that was being operated by one Chris Nwezi in the estate in Lagos state.

Over the weekend, it was said how news had shared the story of how men of the -drug agency carried out a sting operation in the estate and arrested the man who ran the laboratory where the substance was produced.

Confirming this development to newsmen today August 2, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed ( ) said two M**H laboratories have so far been uncovered.

“The first one, located in Victoria Garden City (VGC) Estate of Lekki, Lagos, is owned by a baron, Chris Emeka Nzewi.

The laboratory in Lagos was set up inside the Boys Quarter building of a four-bedroom . From there, we recovered a total of 258.74 of **hamphetamine and various used for the production of the toxic drug. The complete of laboratory equipment such as gas , giant , industrial , industrial gloves, tubes and flat-bottomed , among others were also found.”he said

He said, the owner of the laboratory in VGC, for instance, was producing this highly unstable and toxic drug in a house where he lived with his family.

''This speaks volumes about his insensitivity to the consequences of exposing his family, which includes a three-month old baby, to the danger of . If that is the case, that is an indication that public health was of no concern to him.

In this particular case, aside from the laboratory being close to the kitchen of the main house, the waste from the laboratory was channelled into the septic tank and in the compound, with a high risk of contamination of the water table of the entire neighbourhood.

On average, the lab produced 50 kilos of m**hamphetamine every week with plans underway to increase the capacity of production to at least 100kg per week."

Minister of Works and Housing, , has said that collection of two to three years’ in advance by owners is causing more harm than good to Nigeria’s .

“I concede that majority of the houses belong to the private sector and they expect income from rent for the properties.

“However, I hold a strong view that asking for two to three years rent in advance from working class people (as distinct from corporate tenants who may prefer to pay in advance) does more harm than good to all concerned and to the economy.

“Interestingly, rent is a matter over which the Federal Government has no constitutional authority because it is a local matter and rightly so.

“But I use the platform of this meeting to challenge and provoke all state representatives to thoughts and action about how we can make the payment of rent easier and comfortable for both tenants and landlords.”


Fashola further stated that a situation where working class people could pay their rent when they receive their salaries, would be the most revolutionary intervention.



He added;



“This is possible if we try and this will give the fullest possible to the theme of this meeting which is, ‘Housing our people, by all of government and all our people’

“We have introduced -to-Own into our acquisition/sale model for the disposal of the houses in the National Housing Programme.”

The is set to implement five per cent inclusive excise duty on services in , a move that will make Nigerians pay 12.5 per cent on telecommunications services.

Naira crashes to N710 per

Checks by Peoples on Wednesday showed the current parallel rate pegged at N710 to a dollar.

The national , which traded for N670 against the dollar on Monday, has fallen even further by 6.7 percent in two days as of Friday afternoon, according to data from .

Today’s record fall comes a year after the ( ) prohibited the sale of foreign currency to operators.

The apex bank had previously prohibited the sale of foreign exchange to operators due to their unauthorized sales of foreign exchange above the market they were authorized to serve.

Prior to the ban, BDC operators were a major , providing exchange rate support to those who could not formally access foreign currencies directly from the CBN.

They categorized participants into groups based on napping frequency — “never/rarely,” “sometimes,” or “usually —then analyzed the association of napping and first-time reports of stroke with an average follow-up of 11 years.

Results showed if napping frequency increased by one category, the risk of high blood pressure increased by 40 percent.

“This may be because, although taking a nap itself is not harmful, many people who take naps may do so because of poor at night. Poor sleep at night is associated with poorer , and naps are not enough to make up for that,” said Michael A. , a sleep expert and co-author of the American Heart Association’s new Life’s Essential 8 .

“This study echoes other findings that generally show that taking more naps seems to reflect increased risk for problems with heart health and other issues.”
