CURBING THE DOUBLE HEADED MONSTER CALLED SARS AND PUTTING AN END TO ALL THE CHAOS

Social media has gone agog these past few days with the growing protest to erupting in various states across the country. Sars was set up in 1992 to address rising violent crime, but many have accused the unit of gradually mirroring the groups they were set up to stop. And that revolution has led to peace protests erupting in major states across the federation and hashtags on Twitter with the same message . Although the Special Anti Robbery Squad would not be denied its due commendations for its initial efforts in combating Robbery,Kidnaping and other related vices,they came under backlash and critics attack after numerous videos,photos and complaints started circulating the internet about the units nefarious activities of extortion,harassment and threat to life of innocent citizens. Hence The nationwide protests. A culmination of weeks of anger and outcry online by the country's young (and some aged)people over claims of kidnapping, harassment and extortion by the police unit. International figures like Premier League Stars Mesuit Ozil, Marcus Rashford,International Singer Trey Songs and a host of others all lent their voices as the youths came out in mass both on the streets and on social media Twitter to the air their grievances and demand the dissolution of the rogue unit. Protests were led and joined by celebrities in the country as well as outside the country. They called for the dissolution of the unit and a total reform of the Nigerian police force. New orientations and working ethics and above all respect of the Nigerian citizens they swore to protect and regard for human life. The youths also demanded the government increases the salaries of the Nigerian police to make their job worthwhile and also the trial of persecution of erring officers of the force guilty of the murder and disappearance of innocent Nigerians. The IGP during his closed door meeting with popular Nigerian singer Davido promised that all of this would be looked into. Recall that this would not be the first time the IGP has called for the disbandment of the unit as it has happened three times in the past two years hence the incessant and repeated calls to so this time it’s a final decision.

Buying and selling of voter's card(selling our right)

This history predates the return to democracy in May 1999. There have been allegations of vote buying in the electoral history of Nigeria. It was rife during the Social Democratic Party presidential primiary in jos in 1992. Indeed, vote buying was the reason adduced by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida of annulling the 12 June 1993 presidential poll which was hailed as the freest and fairest in election in history of Nigeria. Although vote buying has became ubiquitous in recent elections.

Vote buying has been an integral element of money politics in Nigeria. Recent experiences however show that vote buying is taking place at the electoral cycle.
In the vote for cash approach a person has to show evidence that he or she has voted for the party in order to receive payment for the vote. Like a typical market place, the politicians, political parties and party agents are the vote buyers while prospective voters are the sellers. The commodity on sale is the vote to be cast while the medium of exchange could be monetary and non monetary items. Although money and other valuables can be used to effectuate vote buying, political actors have adopted two main approaches to buying votes for election day.

The first is the cash for vote approach, it involves giving or promising the prospective voters some agreed amount of money well before the individual cast his/her vote at the polling stand. The payment is don before the actual voting.

The second approach is vote for cash. This involves giving or rewarding the voter with the agreed amount of money or material this occur after the individual has show evidence that he/she has voted for the party.

As result of vote buying the electoral process has become very expensive. Candidate now think that without money and ability to pay their way into people's hearts one way or the other, they wouldn't win the elections. As a result of this candidate that are likely to succeed at governing the country give up on the thought before they even try. For the candidates that can afford the monetary implications of congesting for a political position, they can get into power and see it as a mean to get the money they lost during the electoral process and they forget to do what have been elected into power to do.

Consequences of vote buying

For a country whose citizens have been chanting we want change, buying has been acting as a veil that is blocking their eyes from reality. They are only seeing it as means of gaining money and being blinded to the outcome of the choice they make during the election. How do we expect change to occur when you've trade your power to bring in change for money?. How can change happen if money has made you give your power to the wrong person?

Vote buying has kept us in these ancient days we are living compared to others developed countries. We have all the resources to develop our country, yet we sell our future for financial aid, in as much as vote buying exist, Nigeria will never be able to complete with other developed countries of the world, because only incompetent leaders offer to buy vote.

*FLOODING IN OGBARU LGA OF ANAMBRA STATE*

*FLOODING* : The covering or submerging of normally dry land with a large amount of water..
*Flooding in Ogbaru* : Ogbaru Local government area is situated in the northern region of Anambra state, over the years, the good people of Ogbaru have been victims of annual flooding due to the overflow of the River Niger, this has become a rather challenging and life threatening situation in the area as it seems to get worse by the year...the continuous overflow of the Niger is as a result of the shallowness of the River Niger, Sands has become too much in the Niger thereby making the space for water to be limited and when the annual raining season commences, the River is forced to overflow to the communities surrounded by the River Niger....This has become a major concern for the people in Ogbaru and it's nearby sourrounding because it all appears and seems that they are alone in this, the situation is very critical and needs critical and fast response as mores lives and properties are been lost annually.
*Possible Solutions*
The main problem causing the overflow of the Niger into the Ogbaru axis is the shallowness of the Niger, the sand in the river has become too much thereby giving little space for water to deck and when the annual rainfall season starts the water becomes too much and it overflows into it's sourroundings.. this brings us to one of our solutions....
DREDGING: Dredging is the removal of sediments and debris from the bottom of lakes, rivers, harbors, and other water bodies. It is a routine necessity in waterways around the world because sedimentation—the natural process of sand and silt washing downstream—gradually fills channels and harbors. As sand and silt washes downstream, sedimentation gradually fill channels and harbors. This material must be periodically removed by dredging. The dredging is been done but by individuals who do this for their business purposes, for dredging to be effective, it needs to be approved as a government project, erosion should be be controlled when dredging so Levies should be built by both sides of the Niger.

Alternatively as the dredging project could be time and cost effective, proper internally displaced people's camp (IDP camp) should be provided, people in Ogbaru are really going through a rough and difficult period, the least they can get is atleast a place to rest their head as the water has taken over their houses and works... Taking a drive through Ogbaru one must notice their plight and difficult situation, families now live on the streets and eat on these same streets... We plead with the Federal government, State government and even the Local government to do something about the situation of the good people of Ogbaru...
