Eid-el-Fitr: Let's Imbibe Lessons Of Ramadan-Senator Balogun

Senator Kola Balogun has called on Nigerians, and Islamic faithful in particular, to imbibe the lessons inherent in the just-ended 30-day Ramadan Fasting.

The senator, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, made the call in a message to felicitate with Muslims in the district and Oyo State on the celebration of this year's Eid-el-Fitr.

Senator Balogun, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Dapo Falade, said the 30-day fasting contained lessons in abstinence, self-denial and endurance, noting that the three should guide the individuals in their daily activities.

He congratulated the Islamic faithful on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration and urged them to adhere to the lessons in their relationship with their fellow human beings and their thoughts about the country.

"Today is Eid-el-Fitr, the celebration of the end of the Ramadan Fasting. I want to congratulate the Muslim faithful in Oyo South Senatorial District and across the state.

"As we are celebrating, we should reflect deeply on the lessons inherent in the just-ended 30-day Ramadan Fasting and act upon them in the course of our daily lives.

"As we all know very well, fasting, according to Islamic injunction, is a period when we deny ourselves of some certain things we are used to. It is a period of abstinence and endurance.

"I will urge, not only our Muslim faithful, but also everybody, to look into these lessons and act upon them in our dealings with our fellow humans and our thoughts about the country.

"We should always seek to promote love and peace among ourselves at all times. These are what the great prophet, Muhammed (SAW), expected of us all. These are also contained in the Biblical injunctions.

"We should continually seek to pray for peace in our land. We should use the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to think more about how we can join hands together to ensure growth and development.

"Once again, I and my wife, Mrs Gbonjubola Kola-Balogun, rejoice with Muslim faithful in Oyo South Senatorial District and Oyo State on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

"May the Almighty Allah continue to be with us, bless us, guide us and grant us good health and longevity of life to witness more of the occasion," Senator Balogun said in the statement.

Why I'm Supporting Independent Candidacy- Senator Kola Balogun

Senator Kola Balogun has said he is supporting the call for independent candidates as a means to producing strong public office holders who can frontally tackle the myriad of problems confronting the country.

The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District said this at the 3rd Akeem Kareem Foundation Lecture Series and Maiden Award of Excellence, held in Ibadan, on Thursday.

Senator Balogun also said an amendment of the Nigerian Constitution, encapsulating independent candidature would also help in curbing the agitations by youth for adequate representation in politics.

He said the topic of the lecture, "Engineering Change Through The Sorosoke Generation: 2023 And The Path To Follow", is germane to the 2023 elections.

Senator Balogun, who was one of the awardees at the event, however, urged the Nigerian youths to be ready to make sacrifice in their quest to make a change and become relevant in the polity.

"It is not just about sorosoke. It is beyond EndSARS. How many of you have your Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)? The youths should get their PVCs. Go and get registered and make your voice known.

"It is good to sorosoke but you need to make it more concrete. Jumpstart the process and create awareness. Sorosoke but jerk it up with critical awareness.

"Youths of today should take the bulk by the horn. You should take control and make positive impacts. The political kitchen will be very hot and those who cannot stand it would find their ways out.

2023 is around the corner. Don't sit on the fence. Get your PVC; get your relatives and friends to register to vote. Educate them and exercise your power.

"Politicians will come to you with money. Given the fact that poverty is a reality in the land, collect their money but don't bite for them. That will go a long a way to teach them some good lessons," he said.

Senator Balogun was also full of praises for the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, who he described as a God-fearing man that conducted the 2019 elections without let and fear.

According to the senator, Agboke was a man of conscience who resisted the temptation of big money offered to induce him to alter the outcome of the elections.

"How many people can resist the temptation of $2million? That was the money that was taken all around, in a bid to make him to change the result of the election.

"But Dr Agboke is a good man. He is a man of God, not necessarily a pastor. He is a God-fearing man who used his position to do what is right in respect of elections in Oyo State," he added.

Various other speakers who also spoke during the session emphasised the need the for a change in the system to allow for youth and women participation in the political process.

No Nation Can Prosper Without Solid Education Sector - Senator Kola Balogun

Senator Kola Balogun has called on all stakeholders to pay more attention to the development of sustainable educational system, noting that no country can prosper without a solid educational sector.

He said this, on Tuesday, while speaking at a Senate public hearing on a Bill for an independent commission to manage unity schools across the country.

The senator, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, in a statement by his media adviser, Mr Dapo Falade, said all nations of the world are in need of human development.

He said Nigeria is potentially a great country, adding that all that was needed was to pay more attention to those sectors that can facilitate its progress, particularly the education sector.

Senator Balogun commended the ninth Senate for engaging in such an activity which he said was geared towards ensuring that Nigeria has the best in terms of education.

"All countries are in need of human development. Indeed, no Nation could prosper; no Nation can be great unless the education sector is solid and it is forward-looking.

"So, when the ninth Senate is engaged in this kind of activity to ensure that Nigeria has the best in terms of education, I think it deserves our applause," he said.

Senator Balogun, who is the vice chairman, Senate Committee on Youths Sports and Development, urged participants at the public hearing to make meaningful contributions at the session.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are looking forward to your active participation at this session so that, together, we can move our dear country forward.

"As you all know, Nigeria is a great country; it is potentially a great nation. But we just need to put some things together to ensure that we pay serious attention to those sectors that can make us to make progress, particularly the educational sector," Senator Balogun added.

Senator Balogun Faults Group's Claim On NEMA's Relief Materials To Agodi Automobile Spare Parts Dealers

Senator Kola Balogun has faulted the claim of a group on the relief materials presented to the victims of the fire incident that occurred at the Araromi Agodi Automobile Spare Parts Markets, last April.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had, Wednesday, last week, presented foodstuffs and building materials to the victims, as facilitated by Senator Balogun, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District.

However, a group which goes by the name Generation Next Collective (GNC) and which claimed to be non-political, came out with a false narrative, calling on the beneficiaries of the NEMA gesture not to appreciate Senator Kola Balogun.

The group, in a statement published by an online medium, claimed that, rather than Senator Balogun, it was the 14 federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives that facilitated the relief materials presented to the victims of the fire incident.

Senator Balogun, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Mr Dapo Falade, however, faulted the group's position and its claim to being non-political.

He further stated that, but for the need to enlighten the people and set the record straight, he would have preferred to remain silent and allow the group to continue to wallow in its ignorance.

"I would have chosen to be silent on the false narrative by the so-called non-political group. But I have to come out to correct the falsehood, for the sake of the public, especially my constituents in Oyo South Senatorial District.

"In the first instance, I don't know what this group wanted to achieve by the false narrative they are spreading, as reported by one online medium.

"Why are they seeking to play cheap politics with the unfortunate event that occured at the Araromi Agodi Automobile Spare Parts Dealers Market last April, and which had rendered many of the victims jobless?

"What do they and their sponsors stand to gain in reading politics into the kind gesture of the Federal Goverment that reached out to the victims through NEMA?

"Are they out, by spreading this falsehood, to create bad blood and create enmity between me and my colleagues in the National Assembly who are from Oyo State?

"To the best of my knowledge, I facilitated the relief materials presented to the victims of the unfortunate massive fire incident by NEMA, and in collaboration with the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA).

"This much NEMA alluded to in its letter to the Oyo State governor, Engineer 'Seyi Makinde, to notify him of the intention of the agency to present the victims with the relief materials.

"As clearly indicated in the letter, signed by its Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Alhassan Nuhu, NEMA wrote to Governor Makinde and also copied me, its South-West Zonal Office and OYSEMA.

“Without seeking to berate my lawmaker-colleagues, and in view of the fact that a motion was sponsored by Honourable Ajibola Muraina, on the same subject matter, all I tried to do with this particular outing was to honour the invitation of the Federal Government to grace the public presentation of the relief materials, based on my efforts and support to make the approval and delivery of the relief materials a reality.

"I never claim any singular honour as the facilitator of the relief materials. Rather, I only spoke about the efforts I made to get the intervention from NEMA.

"I clearly said it during the presentation that the beneficiaries and my other constituents should not see me as doing them any favour. Rather, I am only doing what they sent me to do as their representative in the National Assembly.

"Rather than seeking to play cheap politics with what affects the generality of our people and their means of livelihood, I will advise the group and its ilks to let us concentrate more on delivering on our electoral promises to the people," Senator Balogun said.

2023: Olubadan's Purported Endorsement Of Adelabu Lie From The Pit Of Hell-Senator Balogun

Senator Kola Balogun has described as a pure lie the purported endorsement of Chief Adebayo Adelabu as the preferred candidate of the Olubadan-designate, Senator Lekan Balogun, for the 2023 governorship election in Oyo State.

Senator Balogun, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Mr Dapo Falade, said this in reaction to what he described as "a fake news item that has gone viral on the social media".

The report had it that the new Olubadan endorsed Chief Adelabu as the incoming governor of the state in 2023, allegedly saying "My incoming president, look at this my son, Bayo Adelabu, will surely be elected as Oyo Governor in 2023."

The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, said there is nowhere the Olubadan-designate gave such an endorsement, particularly not when Adelabu was part of the entourage of the APC presidential aspirant, Senator Bola Tinubu, that visited the traditional ruler on Sunday.

Senator Balogun said, in the first instance, he was the one that spoke on behalf of the new Olubadan, adding that there was nowhere he addressed Senator Bola Tinubu as "my incoming president."

Balogun said: "It is true that a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, led a team on courtesy visit to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Lekan Balogun, last Sunday.

"However, it is a total falsehood that the Olubadan-elect endorsed one of the governorship aspirants of the APC in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, as his candidate for the 2023 elections.

"The falsehood being reported on the social media in that regard is a figment of the imagination of those I can say are well entrenched in the art and act of lying.

"In the first place, Oba Lekan Balogun did not speak during the visit. I spoke on his behalf when Senator Tinubu led his team on the visit to kabiyesi.

"During the visit, there was nowhere I or kabiyesi mentioned Adelabu or spoke of his endorsement as the preferred candidate of Oba Lekan Balogun for the 2023 governorship election in Oyo State.

"I am a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Not only that; I am also strong member of the party. How then can I speak on the endorsement of a candidate for the opposition party?," he said.

Senator Kola Balogun also said he was surprised that those behind the report could allude to the sitting governor in the state, Engineer 'Seyi Makinde, as an Ilesa man who cannot be the governor of Oyo State again.

"Again, such an insinuation is not only ludicrous, but also another lie which cannot be defended anywhere. Governor 'Seyi Makinde is not only a governor, but he is also a performing governor of the PDP, a party in which I am a very strong member.

"Governor Makinde is just like a son to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland. He has access to kabiyesi, up to his bedroom and this a fact that can be verified by anybody who is genuinely interested in knowing the truth about the relationship between the governor and kabiyesi.

"More so, Oba Lekan Balogun is an experienced politician and an academic of repute. He knows the implication of such a false narrative and he can never soil his hands with such a falsehood," Senator Balogun added.
