Ukraine: Chelsea’s bank account suspended by Barclays
Chelsea’s bank account has been temporarily suspended by Barclays in the wake of Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK government.
The club’s credit cards have also temporarily been suspended.
The reason behind the suspension is that the bank requires time to assess the licence Chelsea have been given to continue football-related activities, Skysports reports.
Chelsea are hopeful the suspension will be lifted shortly.
The UK government on Thursday gave Chelsea a licence to continue with football-related activities after Abramovich had “his assets frozen, a prohibition on transactions with UK individuals and businesses, a travel ban and transport sanctions” imposed on him.
The sanctions are intended to stop the 55-year-old from making any money in the UK, but the government has granted Chelsea a special licence to allow fixtures to be fulfilled, staff to be paid and existing ticket holders to attend matches.
However, Chelsea cannot offer new contracts to players or staff, conduct any transfer business or sell new tickets to matches as things stand.
Chelsea are scheduled to play Newcastle United, live on Sky Sports, on Sunday.
“Barclays suspending Chelsea’s bank account is going to have serious, serious repercussions for the club.

Just In: Nigerian domestic airlines to shut down operations over fuel scarcity

Nigerian domestic airlines have said they might be forced to suspend operations due to hike in the price of aviation fuel.

Speaking on behalf of Airlines Operators of Nigeria, on Thursday, March 10, Allen Onyeama, chairman of Air Peace Airline, said airlines were now buying fuel at N670 per litre, up from N190 at the end of last year.

According to him, “Unfortunately, the fuel scarcity is starting to seriously impact our operations as we are likely going to experience flight disruption today and in the coming days until the situation abates. The aviation fuel cr!sis is taking a new turn and has continued to affect our operations.

If the prices of aviation fuel keep rising at the rate they are moving, we are not sure we will survive the next 72 hours.”

Also addressing the issue in a statement, Ibom Air said, “Our operations has encountered a situation today where aviation fuel is scarce and therefore unavailable at almost all our flight destinations.

We have no indication when the issue will be resolved. However, we are working with our fellow airlines and fuel suppliers to find a solution.”

: Lagos suspends BRT operations

The Lagos State Government has directed operators of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to suspend their operations indefinitely following the death of 22-year-old Bamise Ayanwola.

The action was taken as a precaution after intelligence on “planned attacks” by persons yet to be identified.

A memo was reportedly sent to BRT operators, through the Ministry of Transportation, ordered them to stop operations pending when they consider the atmosphere is safe to do so.

The government was said to have told the operators that it could not guarantee 100 percent protection at the moment.

More than 125 firefighters Monday battled a blaze at a tower block housing apartments and offices near the City of London, as burning debris fell to the ground.

Police evacuated the high-rise building after the fire erupted on its 17th floor and sent thick smoke into the sky.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said 20 fire trucks and more than 125 firefighters were trying to douse the flames in the Aldgate district.

Surrounding roads were cordoned off, and Khan urged the public to avoid the area as debris fell. There was no immediate word on any casualties or the cause of the blaze.

In June 2017, a fire at the residential block of Grenfell Tower in west London killed 72 people. It was blamed on highly combustible cladding on the 24-storey block’s outside walls.

In January, the government said it would make developers contribute more to the cost of removing such cladding from all buildings in Britain, as a public inquiry continues into the Grenfell disaster.

Just In: Russia temporarily ceases fire with Ukraine

Russia says troops will stop f!ring civilians in the besieged Ukrainian cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.

“Today, on 5 March at 10 a.m. Moscow time, the Russian side declares a ceasefire and opens humanitarian corridors for the exit of civilians from Mariupol and Volnovakha”, the Russian Defence Ministry told reporters on Saturday.

The ministry added that the humanitarian corridors and exit routes have been agreed upon with the Ukrainian side. This comes after the ministry reported the catastrophic humanitarian situation in most of Ukraine, with the cities of Kiev, Kharkov, Sumy, Chernigov, and Mariupol being the hardest hit by the humanitarian crisis.

Ukrainian presidential aide Mikhail Podolyak, for his part, said that about 200,000 people are trying to evacuate from Mariupol, while “20,000 people also want to leave the city of Volnovakha in the Donetsk region”.

At present, Volnovakha and Mariupol, one of Ukraine’s largest ports, are being blockaded by forces from the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), Sputnik reported. Mariupol’s authorities have since said that they want to use the ceasefire in order to restore critical infrastructure in the city, as well as provide it with essential food items and medicines.

PHOTO NEWS: Russia has invaded Ukraine with an all-out attack from north, south and east taking place simultaneously, with missiles and bombs striking targets, including military bases, airports and ammo dumps.

Armoured tanks and troops have rolled across the border from Belarus as Russian paratroopers landed in the east of Ukraine where rebel forces are also pushing out from the occupied Donbass region.

This is even as residents of Kyiv continue to troupe out of the city in their thousands to safety as explosions rock parts of the Ukrainian capital.

Less than a day into the invasion, military and civilian casualties have been reported as the United Nations and NATO continue to watch and ponder over possible sanctions and other possible actions against Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

Just In: Nigerian govt lifts ban on Twitter

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the ban on Twitter be lifted after about 222 days.

The president’s directive was disclosed by the Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement and Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE.

In a statement on Wednesday, January 12, in Abuja, Kashifu noted the approval was given following a memo written to Buhari by his Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12am tonight, 13th January 2022.

The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

In the Memo, the Minister updated and requested the President’s approval for the lifting based on the Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement’s recommendation,” he said.

Twitter operations in Nigeria were suspended in June 2021, days after Buhari’s tweet was deleted.

23/12/2021

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, said this at a workshop on the NIN Tokenization Solution organised by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja.
He said the government adopted the solution to ensure the privacy of users’ personal information and to reduce incidences of illegal retrieval, usage, transfer, and storage of NIN.
The minister who was represented by the Director-General of NIMC, Aliyu Abubakar, said the implementation of the tokens begins on January 1. “One of the benefits of the virtual NIN is to ensure no third party may carry out any verification, hiding behind a proxy (and without the knowledge of the NIMC, being the Custodian of Identity).
And also generated Token or Virtual NIN is unintelligent, completely random with no correlation to the NIN and cannot be reverse engineered, even by a Quantum Computer. The NIN holder is the only exclusive issuer of NIN and cannot be delegated,” Mr Pantami said.
Mr Pantami said NIN tokens are MDA or merchant specific and expire after a set period of time, saying that a token generated for company A cannot be utilized by company B.
Also speaking, the Technical Consultant of NIMC, Mr Tunji Durodola said the Digital Token was designed to replace the 11-digit NIN for every usage for everyday usage. He said NIN had been shared and stored by various entities mostly without the knowledge consent or consent of the ID holder or the custodian of identity in Nigeria, NIMC

BREAKING: Queen Naomi Silekunola announces ‘divorce’ from Ooni of Ife, explains reasons.

Her Majesty, Queen Silekunola Naomi, has announced her separation from the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II.
In a statement posted on her verified Instagram handle and page on Thursday, she said announced an end to the three-year marriage.
According to her, she tried to make the union work but said the monarch’s public identity is at variance with “his true self”.
The fair-skinned ex-queen wrote, “I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on. Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.”

The evangelist then declared, “Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection. I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince.”
Responding to some allegations, Silekunola said that her “decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen”.
She further explained, “As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue.
I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.
“The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him.
“I have never been pregnant all my life before Tadenikawo; my son is my first ever pregnancy with medical reports to back it up. The girl who is said to be my daughter is my niece.”
The Ooni previously suffered a marital breakdown in 2017 when he split from Edo-born Zaynab-Otiti Obanor, whom he married as a monarch on March 16, 2016. Obanor’s marriage to the king lasted for 17 months before the separation.
He later married Silekunola in 2018 and the marriage produced a son, Tadenikawo.
The 47-year-old monarch also had a daughter with Omolara Olatubosun as a teenager. Olatubosun gave birth to Princess Adeola Ogunwusi but of recent, there have been counter-claims between the Ooni and Olatubosun over who was responsible for the upbringing of their daughter.

Heavy duty truck fleeing VIO kills grammar school students in Lagos

There is chaos and bedlam in the area.
An articulated truck has reportedly rammed into school students in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State, killing at least 15 of them, according to eyewitnesses.

The children were returning from school when the accident occurred along Isheri Road, just before the Ojodu Police Station.

Done Deal! Cristiano Ronaldo makes epic comeback to Manchester United from Juventus in latest transfer window

Today I depart from an amazing club, the biggest in Italy and surely one of the biggest in all of Europe. I gave my heart and soul for Juventus and I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days. The “tiffosi bianconeri” always respected me and I tried to thank that respect by fighting for them in every game, every season, every competition. In the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.

“Juve, storia di un grande amore
Bianco che abbraccia il nero
Coro che si alza davvero
Juve per sempre sara…”

I will always be one of you. You are now part of my history, as I feel that I’m part of yours. Italy, Juve, Turin, tiffosi bianconeri, you’ll always be in my heart.

The airline said, “Effective from Wednesday, June 23, it will resume carrying passengers from India, South Africa, and Nigeria.”

It added, “Emirates welcomes the latest protocols and measures announced by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management to allow the safe resumption of passenger travel from South Africa, Nigeria and India to Dubai and onwards.

Head of 'World's Largest Family' Ziona Chana Dies, Leaving 38 wives, 89 children and 36 grandchildren.

The news was confirmed by Mizoram's chief minister, Zoramthanga, who offered his condolences on Twitter "with a heavy heart".

Chana reportedly suffered from diabetes and hypertension.

Doctors told PTI news agency that Chana's condition deteriorated at home in his village, Baktawng Tlangnuam. He was admitted to hospital on Sunday evening, where he was declared dead on arrival.

It's hard to say if Chana was indeed the head of the world's largest family since there are others who claim the title.

It's also hard to estimate the exact size of Chana's family. At least one report claims he had 39 wives, 94 children, 33 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, which adds up to 181 people.

While various local news reports have referred to him as holding the "world record" for such a large family, it's unclear which global record it is. It has also been widely reported that the family has been featured twice on the popular TV show Ripley's Believe it or Not.

But world record or not, Chana and his family are a local sensation of sorts, attracting tourists to their village in India's north-east.

And Chana's extrordinary life has grabbed several headlines over the years.

The enormous family lives together in a four-storied house called "Chuuar Than Run" or New Generation House, with 100 rooms. His wives share a dormitory near Chana's private bedroom, according to local media.

The mansion is a major tourist attraction in the state, with people from around the world thronging the village to get a peek into the family's lifestyle.

According to Reuters news agency, Chana was born in 1945. He met his oldest wife, who is three years older than him, when he was 17.

The family lives in a 100-room mansion, which is a tourist attraction

The family belongs to a Christian sect - Chana Pawl - that has about 2,000 followers. They all live around Chana's house in Baktawng Tlangnuam, about 55km (34 miles) from Mizoram's capital, Aizawl.

The sect, which allows polygamy for men, was founded by Chana's grandfather in 1942.

NANS suspends June 12 protest ‘over fear of hijack by politicians.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has suspended its planned June 12 nationwide protests over safety concerns and fear of hijack by politicians.

The association had declared June 12, 2021, as the national day of peaceful protests “to call on the government to act decisively towards addressing insecurity in our schools, campuses and also announce a proactive measure or strategy towards ensuring safer schools”.

But in statement on Friday, Sunday Asefon, NANS president, said though the planned protest was born out of genuine concerns for the safety students, some politicians have made plans to hijack it.

The NANS president also said the planned protest was unconnected to the ‘Buhari Must Go Campaign’ or secessionist campaigns.

“In the last week, I have met with the Inspector General of Police, other security agencies, held series of meetings with student leaders across the country. While everyone agreed that the context of the planned protest is genuine and we reserve the right to protest, the palpable tension surrounding the date has come under special scrutiny. Let me reiterate that our plan protest was never part of the Buhari Must Go Campaign or Secessionist Campaign, our planned protest was borne out of our genuine concerns for the safety of our students,” he said.

“However, some politicians with different agendas to ours have concluded plans to hijack the protest to ventilate their political opinions and sentiments. While every Nigerians reserve the right to their opinion and the right to protest, it will be dangerous to our members if the protest is hijacked as the security agencies have shared with us credible intelligence in this regard.

“Having considered the current security realities and the danger to the lives of our members in case of possible hijack of the planned protest, I in consultation with all the structures of NANS, therefore, announce the suspension of our proposed protest for June 12.

“The suspension of the protest is necessary to avoid a clash of interest and clash with security agencies that are on red alert to protect the nation’s infrastructures from security breaches on the proposed date as a result of many other protests slated for the date. We intend to protest for better security and improved welfare for our students, we must therefore not put the life of any of our students at risk to ventilate our grievances.”

Asefon also said the protest was not cancelled but postponed, and that a new date will be announced for the demonstration.

Facebook, IG unveil free products for content creators

American media magnate and Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, seems to be on a mission to attract more social media users in Nigeria when he announced free products for content creators on all Facebook-owned services including WhatsApp and Instagram.
According to Zuckerberg, the free products will enable creators to make more money, adding that the offer will be available till 2023.
“To help more creators make a living on our platforms, we’re going to keep paid online events, fan subscriptions, badges, and our upcoming independent news products free for creators until 2023. And when we do introduce a revenue share, it will be less than the 30% that Apple and others take,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.
Unlike microblogging site Twitter; Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have not ruffled the feathers of the Nigerian government.
