THE ORIGINATOR OF FUJI MUSIC.( MY PERCEPTION)
Hello Mr Dele,
This piece is my academic perception based on the various submissions from the phone calls you received when the programme was aired. I listened to it yesternight ( 30th April, 2023).
1. Late Chief Sikiru Ayinde Barrister ( Barry wonder) form of music before 1972 was 'Were' because a lot of them were into it at that time. As times go by, he decided to move closer to his contemporaries then by singing Sakara.
As time goes by he noticed that most of the instruments used by those singing that genre is branded 'Fuji' and he has been seeing them using it without cognisance to the name then. After 1972, he decided to rebrand his own form of Sakara and introduced some other things to it and call it 'Fuji', which he decide to make his own genre of music because nobody have ever used that name and history has it that most musical genre are derivable from the instruments used.
In summary, Barry wonder decided to calf a niche for himself by combining ' Were' and ' Sakara' and quickly evolved with Fuji as a name. There may be other people that might have sang his form of music before that time but they were not able to give it a name. When he now sings like those people and it is listened to people now conclude that since this particular singer have being singing before him and their songs sounds like, they have sang ' Fuji ' before him, true , but they did not identify their song at that time as ' Fuji'
Fuji form of music might have been in existence before Barry wonder but NOBODY has been able to identify with it as Fuji.
Lastly, some of the callers are blindfolded by sentiments and this makes it difficult for them to go into a discuss that will be devoid of sentiments and when this is there, you cannot engage them fully. They are already stereotyped.

Late High Chief Adedara Arunralojaoba was a foremost Adamo artist in Iperinrindo/Ilesa Osun State. Born in 1930, Adedara made a mark and left an indelible imprint in traditional music.
I sat with him in 2011 at his home in Ilesa and it was indeed an interview full of humour and deep reflections.
May his soul continue to rest peacefully.

"I had a teacher who taught me in primary two, in 1962. By that time he was the Headmaster of my school in the village, and being the most educated around he was much respected.

He would beat and discipline us in class, and send us on manual errands. We all looked to him as the ultimate example of success.
Fourteen years after, I had just graduated from Wesley Teachers College in Ibadan as the best Grade II certificate student of the year.

I was good in mathematics, so the government of the state employed me to teach mathematics to a class of some elderly teachers who were yet to have qualifying certificate for the profession. I got to class to teach mathematics, and saw my old time teacher of 1962 among my students.

Out of embarrassment I tried to dodge him, but he found me out.
"Francis, Francis" he said, "I am happy for you. But I didn't understand a thing out of what you were saying. Can you please explain it to me." I did.

When I left him, it was with a determination not to stay at one level of success for too long, otherwise the first will become the last, and the last, the first."
