I know that you’re so big on honing your “hard skills”,. You’ll give anything to build your academic & professional portfolio to the point of receiving several laurels & applauses in various fields.

In fact, your ability to successfully “sell ice to an Eskimo” has placed you on a formidable pedestal as everyone now refers to you as the “sales & marketing guru of Africa”. This is indeed a laudable feat & I’m truly excited for you.

But my darling, honing your hard skills is one thing but developing your soft skills is another. Whilst your hard skills may get you through that door of fame, it is your soft skills that will keep you there.

In building your brand, especially as a christian, you must always remember that your spiritual gifts are your hard skills whilst the fruit of the spirit are your soft skills. There is a huge place for kindness, goodness, gentleness & self control that is sadly often overlooked.

In addition to your retinue of accomplishments as a foremost CEO, sales & marketing guru, UX designer, voice over artist, content creator, data analyst, etcetera, please do not forget to also develop as well include these skills: emotional intelligence, problem solving, communication, adaptability, time-management, etc.

Joseph’s hard skill of interpretation of dreams got him to be the second in command to Pharaoh, but it was his soft skill of empathy towards the butler & baker that opened the door of access! (Gen 40:5-6).

Your gifts are not enough if your fruits are not edible!

It’s very easy to despise the days of little beginnings, especially when those beginnings have no seeming form of comeliness or hope in sight.

I remember when I first ventured into my mobile photography journey, I would take loads of pictures I wasn’t a tad bit proud of & in a bid to delete them, I’d hear my husband say, “Helen! You’re too critical, leave those pictures alone. These are the days of your little beginning, don’t despise them. They’ll pay off eventually. Hmmmm, accepting those words as a perfectionist were some of the hardest decisions I’d had to make.

Anyways, I continued taking those rusty photos & soon figured something was wrong with my colour grading, angles & a couple of other things. At that instant, I knew it was time to venture the path of improvement & that I did.

Today, I capture moments, convey brand stories, train individuals/organizations & carry out research upon research. Truth be told my darling, I saw “growth” literally & I dare say “Growth is possible”.

So, to you who has been feeling a little downcast & confused about your seeming “little beginning”, hear this: Even though your beginning is small, your latter end shall greatly increase.

Here are some product photos I took for one of my clients. They are some of the evidence of my growth & we all can work this path.

Ever so often, we allow the spirit of “familiarity” affect & impede on sense of relationship. We stand on this seeming oblivious path holding on to some kinda oblivious reasoning that just because a person is our friend , they don’t deserve to be paid.

This reasoning is the singular cause for a lot of broken/cracked friendships today.

The mere fact that a person is your friend should be a more than important reason for you to pay them first; except of course they insist otherwise.

Don’t let the privilege of “knowledge” or the “inner circle” syndrome affect you from honouring your friends & valuing their businesses.

Whether it’s an SME or a conglomerate, your friends businesses should always be treated with utmost priority.

Everyday, with my 5 year old, I am humbling by the many profound lessons I get to learn, some of which I will be sharing in the coming days. As Christian creatives, it behoves on us to let our lights shine not just in word but in deed. We mustn’t be ashamed or afraid to lead by example in every sphere and every space not forgetting that we are kingdom ambassadors saddled with the responsibility of living out Gods mandate here on earth!!!!

Sitting on the fence is one of the worst & debilitating decisions we can make as individuals. Beyond choosing what side of the divide we would rather be on, we must also decide how & when to evolve. Make no mistake, the opposite of growth isn’t “stunted” but “death”. The moment you stop growing, you start dying! And if for any reason you’ve been on the “stunted side “ of the divide, there’s still hope! Today, resolve to get off the fence & evolve!!!🥰🥰🥰
