Brymo apologises for Igbo presidency tweets

Nigerian Singer, Olawale Brymo, has apologised over his tweets on the possibility of south-easterners producing a Nigerian president.

This comes after thousands of Nigerians signed a petition to stop the singer from winning the All Africa Music Award where he was nominated in the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ category.

The singer had been dragged on social media for stating that the Igbos are not ready to produce a Nigerian president.

He also urged the region to test the waters with the vice presidential slot before aiming for the presidency.

He went live on his Instagram account to address the issue and clarify what led to his tweets.

According to him, the issue started after he shared his opinion about author Chimamanda Adichie refusing national honours but accepting a chieftaincy title in her hometown, Abba, Anambra State.

Benjamin Mendy cleared of r**e charges

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of six counts of r**e and one count of sexual assault against four young women.

The jury failed to reach verdicts on one count of r**e and one of attempted r**e and a retrial will take place.

Mendy's friend, Louis Matturie, was also found not guilty of three counts of r**e against two teenagers.

Jurors at Chester Crown Court could not reach verdicts on six other counts by five other women.

Mendy, and his friend Matturie, had been accused of ra**ng women at the player's home in Prestbury, Cheshire, and at a Manchester flat.

All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Says There Is Action Plan For Better Nigeria

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, says his administration would continue a progressives government for the country where everybody will be included.

Lagos charges young entrepreneurs on creative ideas

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged young entrepreneurs in the state to develop their creative ideas and grow the state economy.

Sanwo-Olu gave the charge during the maiden edition of Lagos Island Business Fair (LIBIZFair) 2022, with the theme: ”Edu-Social for Entrepreneurs in Lagos Island, and Lagos State Towards Social Economic Empowerment”.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Adetutu Ososanya, said that entrepreneurs should fashion their businesses on how they should be done in the 21st century adding that the state government was re-shaping the orientation of doing business by encouraging young people to become social entrepreneurs.

Akeredolu pardons 16 inmates

Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has directed the Comptroller of the state Federal Correctional services to release sixteen inmates from its custodial facilities to mark the 2022 Independence day celebration.

Attorney General of Ondo state and Chairman of the state Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Charles Titiloye, made this known on Saturday.

Titiloye said the gesture was in accordance with the power conferred on the governor by paragraphs (a) (c) and (d) of Subsection (1) of Section 212, of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended).

He said the inmates who were serving various terms of imprisonment at the correctional centers received the grace and mercy of the governor based on their good conducts.

According to him, the inmates were recommended for release by the state’s Advisory Council on Prerogative of mercy.

Federal Government withdraws order directing reopening of varsities

The Federal Government has withdrawn an earlier directive to Vice Chancellors of public universities to reopen the institutions in obedience to an order of the National Industrial Court.

Director of Finance and Accounts, National Universities Commission, Sam Onazi, made this known in a letter to all Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of University Councils as well as Vice-Chancellors of federal universities.

Onazi said further development and information would be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

Hermes, Groovy, Sheggz evicted from Big Brother Naija Season 7

Hermes, Groovy and Sheggz, housemates of the television reality show, Big Brother Naija, season 7, have been evicted.

The host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, announced the eviction of the housemates during the live eviction show on Sunday.

According to the vote percentage, Hermes garnered 15.83 per cent, while Groovy and Sheggz had 14.63 per cent and 13.26 per cent respectively.

Hermes, upon eviction said he would be open for anything in the sports and arts sectors.

Groovy, a fashion designer and model, said, “I will be going back to everything I left behind, with this space, I know everything had changed for me.”

Also, Sheggz, a footballer said, “I will go home, relax, see my mother and my family, the world should wait to see what happens next.”

Just a week to the end of the show, eight housemates are currently on the show with six which include Chichi, Phyna, Bella, Daniella, Bryan and Adekunle bidding for the grand prize and two rider housemates, Rachael and Chizzy.

2022 AFRIMA Public voting starts September 25

The voting portal for the 2022 edition of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, will be opened on Sunday, 25th, September at 21:00 (CAT), to the public.

AFRIMA’s Executive Producer, Mike Dada, who disclosed this on Friday said the voting was to globally decide the winners of each of the 39 award categories.

He encouraged African music lovers to vote intensively using the voting portal live at www.afrima.org, before it closes on the 10th, December, eve of the awards.

He said that the voting process would be audited by the international auditing firm, PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PWC)

According to him, the voting process can also be found on the website, as well as AFRIMA’s social media, instagram/TikTok – .official; Facebook – Afrimawards.

Dada noted that the awards body remained the ultimate recognition of African music globally, also serving as a muse to other award bodies across the continent.

Woman dies pursuing her husband in Calabar

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Cross River, Sector Commander, Maikano Hassan, has confirmed a lone accident in which a middle age woman died in Calabar on Sunday.

Hassan who disclosed that the incident was caused by speeding said that the incident which occurred on the Muritala Mohammed Road, adding that the Toyota Highlander the woman was driving skid off the road into a ditch by the highway.

According to him, the woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, she was pronounced dead minutes later due to injury sustained from the incident.

Massive fire breaks out in skyscr**er in Chinese city of Changsha

A massive fire has engulfed a skyscr**er in the Chinese city of Changsha.

Report showed massive flames racing up the 42-storey building's side as office workers rushed to evacuate the building.

Thick clouds of black smoke billowed out of the structure, which is a regional office for China Telecom.

According to authorities, the flames have since been extinguished and that no casualties had yet been reported.

More Than 600 Migrants Arrived in UK

More than six hundred migrants arrived in Britain after nearly fourty were rescued from the Channel when their boat sank off the Kent coast.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said Six hundred and seventeen people made the journey in 14 boats, taking the total for the year so far close to thirty thousand.

The figures suggest there was an average of 44 people per boat during the latest crossings.

Among the new arrivals were 38 people who were in the sea for almost an hour after their dinghy rapidly deflated in British waters at around 6:17 am (0517 GMT).

Nigeria has inaugurated a Sixteen-man inter-ministerial committee to handle issues of stateless persons in the country.

The High Level-Steering Committee is part of the country’s National Action Plan (NAP) on the eradication of statelessness by 2024.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA has said United Nation inspectors will try to establish a permanent presence at the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

It's Director General Rafael Grossi explained that the mission was mostly technical work, with the team heading to the plant looking to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the physical integrity of the site and the functioning of the security systems.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has, described Nigerian youth as the future of the World and urged them to take charge of the future.

Nigeria's Vice President Says He Values Transparency And Social Justice

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says he places high value on the virtues of integrity, transparency and social justice.

According to a statement from Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, the vice-president said this when he interacted with a group of Harvard Business School students who visited him at the Presidential Villa.

The students, currently on an African excursion, asked questions about leadership, faith, spirituality, government policies in education, health, economy, and national image, among others.

Federal Government Apologises For Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Gridlock

The Federal government has apologised for the current hardship faced by road users due to construction works on the Berger-Opic axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Acting Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Forosola Oloyede, said in a statement that the government was aware of the traffic gridlock due to the ongoing reconstruction works on the expressway.

According to her, the government feels the pains of the people, especially residents of Lagos and Ogun States who are at the receiving end of the inconveniences due to the gridlock.

Oloyede promised that the government would make necessary improvements in the traffic management system on the road in order to alleviate the suffering of the road users.

Nigerian Immigration Service to recruit 5000 personnel

The acting Comptroller-General, CG of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Idris Jere, has said plans are underway to recruit additional Five Thousand personnel into the service.

Jere said the gesture was aimed at addressing manpower deficit in the NIS, added that the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, had sent a memo to President Muhammadu Buhari, who indicated his willingness to approve the request.

Lagos State Governor Urges Commissioners To Set Up Independent Monitor Mechanisms

The Commissioners for Economic Planning and Budget should set up an independent monitor mechanism to assess how well they have done in their Ministries, Agencies and Departments.

They were enjoined to be disciplined, fair, firm and prudent in their budget planning and implementation of sustainable national development goals.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made the call while declaring open the fifteenth Community of Practice Meeting for all Commissioners of Budget and Economic Planning of the thirty-Six States of the Federation at Victoria Island.
