The federal government has hinted that it would launch a road map for the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. The Senate yesterday constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate all contracts awarded for the rehabilitation of refineries said to have gulped ₦11.35 trillion in 13 years. The sum includes $592, 976, 050.00, €4, 877, 068.47 and £3, 455, 656.93.The Red Chamber also mandated the committee to interrogate the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) on the best approach to commercialise state-owned refineries....

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of stay of envoys and ambassadors by three months. On September 2, President Tinubu recalled all Nigeria’s ambassadors, both career and non-career. They were asked to return to the country on or before October 31. Nigeria has no fewer than 300 foreign missions. the envoys were stranded as the Federal Government was foot-dragging on implementation and had not released AIEs (Authority to Incur Expenditures) for their passages to them....

The Corporate Affairs Commission says it has uncovered 189 fake companies used to secure land allocations in the Federal Capital Territory. The Registrar General of the commission, Hussaini Magaji, disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja. A middle-aged woman, Oluchukwu Nwosu, has reportedly sold her three-month-old grandson for N50,000 in Nnewi, Anambra State. She justified her actions by blaming economic hardship, which she said was exacerbated by the removal of petrol subsidy. Minister of Finance and coordinating of the economy, Mr. Wale Edun has stated that around $10 billion of forex inflows is expected within weeks rather than months. Mr Edun stated this during a panel session at the ongoing Nigeria Economic Summit and answered questions concerning stabilizing the foreign exchange market and enshrining liquidity in the market. He said,“In addition, from the supply of foreign exchange through NNPC, increased production, reduced expenditure, from transactions such as forward sales, from our discussions with sovereign wealth funds, that are ready to invest and provide advanced alongside that investment, there is a line of sight of $10 billion worth of foreign exchange in the relatively near future in weeks rather months.”...

Coup : President Tinubu Dispatches Envoy to Niger Republic The Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dispatched a delegation to Niger Republic with a mandate to expeditiously resolve the current political impasse in the country. The action was in line with the resolution reached at the end of the extraordinary summit of the ECOWAS held last weekend in Abuja. The delegation, headed by former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), left for Niamey on Thursday following a briefing by President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. The former Nigerian Head of State is joined in the delegation by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray. Speaking after the meeting, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd) said the delegation would meet the coup leaders in Niger to present the demands of the ECOWAS leadership. President Bola Tinubu has called on the people of Kogi West Senatorial District to maintain peace and unity ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the State. Speaking at a meeting with leaders of Okun Development Association, led by Professor Micheal Ikupolati, at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, the President assured them of his commitment to look into their concerns regarding marginalization and the need for fair representation in governance of their state. The delegation had expressed their unwavering support for the Tinubu administration and requested the President's backing for Kogi West Senatorial District to have an opportunity to produce the next Governor of the state. They emphasized that this would be the first time the district will have a chance to produce the governor in 27 years since the state's creation in 1991. Responding to their appeal, the President told the delegation, regarding the issue of power rotation and constitutional provisions to guarantee equal rights for all Senatorial Districts, the President said he would thoroughly examine the matter of fair representation they brought to his attention.
