A press statement has just been released by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and signed by the president of the Union, confirming it's decision of not embarking on strike for now till when the need arises and students have been asked to go about their normal duties.

The looming nationwide strike which was proposed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities will no longer be embarked on as the president of the Union Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke acknowledges Federal government's fulfilment of one of the most important areas of the agreement which was contained in the Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU).
Although most of the branches wanted the strike to be announced during yesterday's meeting, the president of the Union noted that the government was already making some progress as it concerns the MoU and Should therefore be given more time.

The minister of State for Education has challenged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to highlight some of the things the government has done to kill public universities in Nigeria as they claim as the union prepares to embark on possible strike on Saturday.

ASUU holds back strike as Federal Government pays N52.5 billion for revitalization and earned allowances.

The above information was confirmed to the THISDAY Newspaper By the Minister of labour and employment, Senetor Chris Ngige.
Reports have it that the Union is now left with the option of publishing a press statement to confirm the receipt of funds and then make a turn around from the proposed strike on the 15th of December.
