Buhari Confers National Honours Awards In Abuja

Presiden Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, conferred national honours to 437 persons in Abuja.

Buhari conferred the national honours on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, former Chief of Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Ibrahim Muhammed, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and others.

BREAKING: Atiku to Wike, others: Ayu won't resign

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has declared that the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu won't resign as being demanded by the Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike and other PDP Governors in his camp.

Atiku, in a reaction to the withdrawal of Wike and his loyalists from the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, urged the aggrieved party chieftains to have a rethink and retrace their steps

In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku said: "On the calls for the resignation or removal from office of our national chairman, however, I must reiterate what I have said severally in public and in private; the decision for Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office is personal to Dr. Ayu and, neither I nor anyone else can make that decision for him.

"As to the calls for the removal of Dr. Ayu from office, however, I will state that, as a committed democrat and firm believer in the rule of law and democratic tenets, and our party being one set up, organised and regulated by law and our constitution, it is my absolute belief that every thing that we do in our party must be done in accordance with, and conformity to, the law and our constitution.

"If Dr. Ayu is to be removed from office, it must be done in accordance with the laws that set out the basis for such removal. In any event, you will all recall that the very body that is empowered by law to initiate this removal from office, has already passed a vote of confidence in him".

Tinubu extols Shettima's virtues at 56

All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has extolled the virtues of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, on his 56th birthday.

Tinubu, in a statement from his Media Office on Thursday, described Shettima as a bold, courageous, selfless, brilliant and committed leader who led his people through the most difficult and challenging period as Governor of Borno State, when the state was under Boko Haram siege.

The APC National Leader noted that Shettima did not allow the menace of Boko Haram terrorism to overwhelm him, adding that he showed exemplary leadership and fought for his people.

"I heartily congratulate my brother and worthy partner, Senator Kashim Shettima, on attaining 56 in good health.

"I am excited about his energy, dynamism and readiness to serve our country at the center as Vice President .

"Senator Shettima is an extraordinary leader forged in the theatre of challenges. He led a heroic struggle against the forces of terrorism with intellect, courage and tenacity. He gave succour to the victims while mobilising the civilians to support our military.

"The success of his interventions and help in facilitating the emergence of another excellent leader in Prof. Babagana Zulum as his successor are part of the achievements of our party today in Borno State.

"It gladdens my heart to be on this journey with Senator Shettima to deliver to our people progressive good governance.
