Ibukun Ayodele: Court Grants Bail To Protester Who Lost Baby In Prison - Politics -redalertfm.

The Ondo State High Court has granted bail to Ibukun Ayodele, the 18-year-old girl detained over who had a miscarriage at the Surulere Prison in Akure.

Ibukun and three other teenagers are standing trial for alleged arson and public disturbance.

On October 24, 2020, she was arrested and whisked to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ondo while en route to visiting her cousin.

She was accused of having connections with protesters who burned the All Progressive Congress (APC) secretariat in the state and was charged with arson, among other offences.

As of October 2020, Ibukun was just 17 and three months pregnant, according to Iyabo Ayodele, her mother.

But as a result of the cruelty and torture by the soldiers and the distress of being held in the police cell and prison, Ibukun suffered a miscarriage that has left her in pains.

FIJ had reported how Kemisola Ogunbiyi, one of the teenage detainees in the Akure Prison, was delivered of a baby.

The birth of her child in detention triggered public outrage, with many Nigerians demanding her swift and unconditional release from detention.

However, FIJ understands that Ibukun has now been granted bail by a “trial judge in the Ondo State High Court”.

Although details of the bail conditions are sketchy, witnesses who attended the court proceeding confirmed to FIJ that the 18-year-old girl who had a miscarriage in prison has now been granted bail due to her health condition.

Abduction: El-rufai Mourns Army, Navy Officers Who Died While Defending Students - Politics -redalertfm.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has condoled the families of two Nigerian Army and Navy personnel who paid the supreme price while defending students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna, Newspremises reports.

The two personnel, Private Salisu Rabiu and Ordinary Seaman Bilal Mohammed lost their lives while engaging the bandits who attacked the school and kidnapped an unspecified number of students in the early hours of Monday, 5th July 2021, Newspremises reports.

The Governor said that the duo of Rabiu and Mohammed are heroes who lost their lives while engaging outlaws who represent the worst of humanity.

He added that their lives would not go in vain as the victory of evil men is only temporary, but their retribution permanent.

The Governor who prayed for the repose of their souls said troops and all security personnel on the frontlines deserve solidarity, motivation and gratitude, instead of condemnation.

He described negative comments against security personnel as a most unfortunate display of ingratitude in view of their sacrifices and patriotism.

The Governor has on behalf of the government and people of Kaduna State offered financial assistance to their immediate families.

Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs represented Governor El-Rufai at the funeral of Seaman Mohammed at Ungwan Kanawa Cemetery, Kaduna North LGA. Prayers were offered for Private Rabiu at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital's mortuary before his remains were taken to Daura, Katsina State for final interment.

150 People Fatally Shot Over The Fourth Of July Weekend In US - Crime -redalertfm.

(CNN)At least 150 people were killed by gun violence in more than 400 shootings across the country during the Fourth of July weekend as major cities nationwide confront a surge in violent crime, according to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive.

The data, which includes the number of shooting incidents and gun violence victims nationally over a 72-hour period from Friday through Sunday, is still evolving and will be updated.

In New York, where gun violence has been rising to levels not seen in years, there were 26 victims from 21 shootings from Friday to Sunday, a decrease from the same period last year when 30 people were shot in 25 shootings, the New York Police Department said.

On July 4, the city experienced 12 shooting incidents that involved 13 victims, an increase from last year when there were eight shootings and eight victims, according to the NYPD.

So far this year, gun violence incidents in New York have spiked almost 40% over the same period in 2020, with 767 shootings and 885 victims. CNN has requested data on how many of the shootings over the weekend resulted in homicides.
In Chicago, after Police Superintendent David Brown raised concerns before the "most challenging weekend of the year" for police, 83 people were shot, including 14 killed, in shootings from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, according to a CNN review of preliminary Chicago Police Department data. The injured included a 5-year-old girl wounded on Sunday afternoon and a 6-year-old girl shot early Monday.

CAN, HURIWA Ask El-Rufai To Resign Over Kidnap Of 26 Baptist Students -redalertfm.

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria (HURIWA) call have asked Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to resign his position as governor due to escalation of insecurity in the state.

Their calls were apparently because the governor has failed in his responsibility as the chief security officer of the state and his refusal to negotiate with kidnappers.

Yesterday, 26 students were kidnapped by armed bandits at Bethel Baptist School, Maraban Rido, Chikun Local Council of Kaduna State.

Confirming the incident yesterday, Kaduna police command said that security operatives were on the trail of the bandits.

Chairman of CAN, Kaduna chapter, Rev. Joseph Hayab, who is a Baptist senior pastor, explained that students in the hostel’s register before the kidnap were 180, adding: “They counted the students this (Monday) morning and they said 174 could not be accounted for.”

He urged the governor to resign, if he could not handle the security of the state. But El-Rufai has described the incident as unfortunate and evil to humanity.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home, Samuel Aruwan, said: “The governor is following the development and receiving hourly situation reports.”

BLAMING El-Rufai and President Muhammadu Buhari for the kidnap of students in Kaduna and other northern states, HURIWA lamented the lack of effective and transparent military action to end the menace.

Southern Reps back region’s govs on 2023 presidency, PIB, Electoral Act

Members of the House of Representatives from the southern part of Nigeria have adopted the resolutions by the Southern Governors’ Forum on the Petroleum Industry Bill, Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill and the rotation of the Presidency in 2023.

Chairman of the Southern Caucus, Victor Nwokolo, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday and titled, ‘Southern Reps Backs Southern Governors On Presidency, Electronic Transmission of Election Results, PIB, Others.’

Seventeen governors from the region had met in Lagos on Monday, where they took position on sundry issues in the polity.

The lawmakers said members of the House from the 17 southern states “unanimously and unequivocally endorse the patriotic resolution of the SGF on the resolve that the next president of Nigeria should emerge from the southern region.”

According to the caucus, the resolution by the governors reinforces their stance, as federal lawmakers, that “our nation must and should exist on the pillars of justice, equity, fairness, peaceful co-existence and mutual respect, particularly in the political, economic and structural management of our national diversity.”

The statement read in part, “We note that the demand that the next President of Nigeria should come from the southern region unambiguously represents the opinion of the majority of Nigerians across board, in tandem with the already established rotation of presidency position between southern and northern Nigeria.

“Furthermore, against the backdrop of our commitment towards free, fair, credible and transparent elections, the members of the House of Representatives from the South also back our governors in rejecting the moves to outlaw the electronic transmission of election result in the Electoral Act, as well as the confirmation of exclusive jurisdiction in pre-election matters on the Federal High Court.

Bandits Kill Samaila, Army Officer On Highway While Returning To His Family - Politics -redalertfm.

Bandits have killed a soldier, Major MS Samaila, who was travelling on the Kano - Maiduguri Road on Saturday.

Samaila, before his death, was the AG Commanding Officer of the 196 Amphibious battalion in the Isiala Ngwa area of Abia State.

A military source told SaharaReporters that the deceased was returning from his station in Abia state to his family when the unfortunate incident occurred.

He said, “This is Major Samaila of 145bn OC in Isialagwa Abia state. He was attacked by armed bandits on the Kano-Maiduguri Road while going home to see his family. Abia State was his unit before he died. This is saddening, and the country is annoying. Both his wife and children now are on their own.”

The development comes amid rising insecurity in the country with soldiers becoming one of those worst hit in the fight against the situation.

SaharaReporters had chronicled the plights of different soldiers leading the war against Boko Haram in the Northeast region of the country.

A soldier had told SaharaReporters that many of his sick colleagues were still in the bush fighting Boko Haram to the detriment of their health following the death of one of them.

"He was sick here in the bush, but he went home and died. The man had been dying slowly. I am tired of the country. I don't feel happy when the wrong things are happening. I will soon quit the army to work in a place where I will have freedom of speech," he had said.

"We still have some people that are medically unfit but are still here which isn't supposed to be so. It's sad because if this were to be a United Nations operation or that of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), they'll drop you even if it's only high blood pressure that you have.

"But now those that have health issues are here in the bush fighting. Were it to be an operation that they feel they'll make more and get other benefits, they'll deny them. This should not be the case but what are we going to do? That's the situation we find ourselves in at the moment."

Reno Omokri Blasts Governor El-Rufai For Withdrawing His Son From Nigerian Public School (Photo)

Former Presidential Aide, Reno Omokri has blasted the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai for withdrawing his son from Nigerian public school, IgbereTV reports.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai said that he withdrew his seven-year-old son, Abubakar Al-Sadiq El-Rufai, from Kaduna Capital school, after bandits attempted to kidnap him twice.

Taking to Instagram, Reno Omokri wrote;

"So, Nasir can withdraw his son from school because bandits and killer herdsmen want to kill him, yet he condemns Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu for wanting to withdraw from Nigeria when the same bandits and killer herdsmen kill their people. Is this not hypocrisy?

Seeing as El-Rufai said he withdrew his son from a public school because bandits and kidnappers were targeting him, it is time we question his sanity. Does he have Multiple Personality Disorder? Was he not the same man defending bandits on BBC News Pidgin saying they are just doing “business” and are not a threat to one Nigeria? So let him leave his son in that school since they are only doing their business.
