A FUTURE THAT IS FOR THE YOUTH, BY THE YOUTH, AND BEYOND, COMR. ZANNA AMMA ABUBAKAR

Today, we stand at the threshold of a new era. An era where our generation will shape the course of history. We are the ones we've been waiting for.

We must harness our energy, creativity, and passion to build a brighter future. A future where every young person has access to quality education, skills, and opportunities to thrive.

We must challenge the status quo, innovate, and disrupt the norms that have held us back. We must build a world that is more just, equitable, and sustainable.

But, we cannot do it alone. We need to come together, support our journey, and lift each other up. We need to be the change we want to see in the world.

So, let us unite, let us inspire, and let us empower each other to build a future that is beyond our wildest dreams.

A future that is for the youth, by the youth, and beyond.

Thank you.

I am deeply saddened by the devastating explosion that occurred in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday night.

The explosion killed two persons and wounded about 80 others. It also destroyed several buildings, vehicles, and other properties.
It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behavior that has created the conditions for this sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished.

I commiserate with the government and people of Oyo State and call on all concerned agencies of government to unravel the circumstances that led to this tragedy with alacrity.

I have directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with the Oyo State Government to offer immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims.

President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday night in Abuja, said he benefitted immensely from his close relationship with long-time confidant, Chief Bisi Akande, and that he considered himself lucky to have him.

Speaking at a dinner held at the State House Conference Centre to celebrate the 85th birthday of the elder statesman, President Tinubu said he was delighted that the sentiments he had about the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is also a former governor of Osun State, resonated well with other speakers at the event.

โ€œListening to the remarks from the podium, they are inspirational enough. It has been said that you are Mr. Integrity, we, the younger ones, are very lucky to have you. You deserve to be celebrated. Thank you for always being forthright and being honest. I do not want to repeat myself beyond the fact that, lucky enough for me, I have you. I thank God for your life,โ€ the President said to Chief Akande.

Recounting the role of Chief Akande in the process leading to the emergence of the APC as a mega party and its eventual election victory in 2015, the President stated that the lessons in forgiveness and patience that he learnt from the elder statesman eventually led him to becoming the President of Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja thanked former President Muhammadu Buhari for his visionary leadership of Nigeria and commitment to probity, propriety, and service.

Speaking at the launch of two books on the former President; Working with Buhari: Reflections of a former Special Adviser to the President, Media & Publicity, by Femi Adesina, and Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy, by Dr. Udu Yakubu, President Tinubu said Buhari demonstrated integrity and transparency in leadership.

The President said the former President has kept his word not to interfere in government matters after leaving office.

โ€œWhen you left office, you left a lot of pens and files for me for continuity. I inherited the liabilities and assets of my predecessor.

โ€œYou told me it will be difficult to please everyone as a leader. You advised that I should work hard and satisfy my conscience,โ€ he said.

President Tinubu stated that former President Buhari inherited a tottering economy and an overwhelming security situation, but that the former President was able to start the process that would guarantee stability.

โ€œI am glad that history has been reintroduced in our schools, and this will be part of our curriculum,โ€™โ€™ the President said on the books.

Zulum to transport unions: Comply with load restriction laws or risk jail term
. Governor orders completion of trailer park in two months

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a stern warning to transport unions, including the Road Transport Workers Union of Nigeria (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and Clearance Agents Association.

The governor noted that government will impose severe penalties, including jail terms on those that violate load restriction laws in the state.

Zulum served the warning in Maiduguri on Thursday during a meeting with the leadership of transport unions in the state at the council chamber of the government house.

The governor emphasized the importance of adhering to load restrictions as mandated by government's transportation regulations. However, he announced that Borno State Government will send a bill to the State House of Assembly for the review of existing road and transportation laws to provide explicit and stern punishment for violators.

Governor Zulum also instructed that weighbridges are to be installed in some strategic places to ensure that owners and operators of heavy trucks adhere to load restrictions on highways.
. Governor orders completion of trailer park in two months

Meanwhile, the governor directed the Ministry of Works and Housing to ensure the completion of works at the ongoing trailer park project in Maiduguri.

The governor explained that with the completion of the trailer park, government will fully enforce the state transport law banning trailers and other vehicles conveying heavy loads from accessing the city centre.

Governor Zulum stated that the measures are aimed at protecting road infrastructure in the state, saving huge amounts that could be used for maintenance.

Agriculture: Zulum orders reactivation of South Chad Irrigation Scheme

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced a plan to reactivate the South Chad Irrigation Scheme aimed at providing a livelihood for the resettled communities.

The governor made the announcement on Monday in Wulgo, a community in Ngala Local Government Area.

"Borno State Government will see how to open up and expand the irrigation activities on the shores of Lake Chad. We will resettle new communities and we shall reactivate the South Chad Irrigation Scheme in order to address food crises in Borno State," Zulum said.

The South Chad Irrigation Scheme comprising of communities along the water shores of Lake Chad, including Gamboru, Dambore, Wulgo, Marte, and Kirenuwa will create employment opportunities and enhance food security for the people in the region.

The governor noted that the State Ministry of Agriculture has mapped out a strategy for the reactivation of irrigation schemes across the state.

He said that the reactivation of the irrigation scheme would provide the resettled communities with livelihoods without relying on food aid for survival.

"You can see the quantum of food that is being distributed here, it is not sustainable to continue with such distribution. It is imperative, therefore, to look for medium- and longer-term sustainable solutions that will completely address food crises in the state. The State Ministry of Agriculture has taken a far-reaching decision that will address the food crises. Among them is the reactivation of the irrigation scheme across Borno State," Governor Zulum said.

The governor, accompanied by the senator representing Borno Central, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan, a member of the House of Representatives, Engr Bukar Talba, a member representing Ngala at the State Assembly, Hon Bukar Abatcha and the Local Government Chairman of Ngala, visited Gamboru, Wulgo and Dambore irrigation sites.

President Tinubu to Security Chiefs: You are making good progress, but there must be conclusive victory

President Bola Tinubu has asked the nationโ€™s security chiefs to ensure that there is conclusive victory against the myriad of security threats assailing the country.

Addressing security chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies at a Presidential Security Briefing at the State House, in Abuja, on Friday, President Tinubu said while good progress is being made with the elimination of some security threats across multiple theatres, success will ultimately be defined by a final conclusion to the multi-dimensional menace.

โ€œWe have too many investments that we need to make now in soft and physical infrastructure, in social security, in MSME empowerment, and other growth enablers. We are pursuing a $1 trillion economy in the next few years, and our efforts will be undermined if we do not finally wrap up our progressive onslaught against enemies of progress. Be encouraged. The confidence of our people in your capacity is rising, and they are appreciative of the sacrifices of our men and women.

โ€œThe success you are recording is undeniable. Nigerians are seeing it, but the avoidable errors, as witnessed recently in Kaduna, are unacceptable and cannot be repeated. I am pleased that coordination between all agencies has dramatically improved over recent months, but there is no room for celebrations until we can end this; until we can bring our troops back to their own localities, and until we can free up resources for our critical economic expansion programme,โ€ the President firmly stated.

The President emphasized that the armed forces must deliver on his objective to ensure the nation achieves a sustainable production of two million barrels of crude oil per day, including condensates, within the first quarter of 2024.

President Tinubu signs 2024 Budget of Renewed Hope, directs MDAs to provide monthly performance reports

President Bola Tinubu has signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill into law in keeping with his avowed commitment to maintaining a timeous, predictable, and efficient budget cycle.

President Tinubu assented to the bill at the State House, on Monday, shortly after returning to Abuja from Lagos.

Speaking at the signing of the bill, the President assured Nigerians that the implementation of the budget would be efficiently pursued and vigorously monitored, adding: โ€œAll the institutional mechanisms shall be held to account in ensuring diligent implementationโ€.

โ€œAll MDAโ€™s have been directed to take responsibility and provide monthly Budget Performance Reports to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, which in turn shall ensure the veracity of such. The Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy shall hold regular reviews with the Economic Management Team and, in addition, I shall Chair periodic Economic Coordination Council meetings,โ€ he said.

The top priorities of the 2024 budget of N28.7 trillion are defence and internal security, job creation, macro-economic stability, improved investment environment, human capital development, poverty reduction, and social security.

The President emphasized that his commitment to enhance investment promotion while creating a rules-based society that favours no individual over the law begins with important reforms in the Nigerian judiciary, the funding for which is captured in the 2024 Appropriation Act.

โ€œFunding the judiciary is a major element in our effort to support a just, rules-based society. Statutory transfer to the Judiciary has been increased from 165 billion naira to 342 billion naira,โ€ the President said.

Some of the key estimates are capital expenditure, N10 trillion; recurrent expenditure, N8.8 trillion; debt service, N8.2 trillion, and statutory transfers, N1.7 trillion.
