Davido pledges annual donation of N300m to orphanages across Nigeria

A nine year old lion has reportedly murdered Olabode Olawuyi, a staff member of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife Zoological Park.

A statement by the public relations officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirming the incident said Olawuyi, until his death was a Veterinary Technologist, who had been in charge of the Zoological garden for over a decade.

He said: “Mr Olawuyi has been taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about 9 years ago but, tragically, the male lion killed the man who had been feeding them.

According to the statement, other members of staff who were at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue their boss but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities.

“Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, was informed, on arrival, by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, that all first aid and medical efforts to save the life of the victim proved abortive.

“Saddened by this tragic event, the aggressive Lion has been euthanized. The University management has sent a delegation to the widow and children of the deceased, imploring them to take solace in God who gives life and also has the power to take life.”

The varsity spokesman said the management had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

BREAKING: Cement manufacturers have agreed to bring down the price of the product to between N7,000 and N8,000 per 50kg depending on the location nationwide.

During a meeting initiated by the Minister of Works, David Umahi with cement manufacturers in Abuja on Monday, February 19, efforts were made to identify the underlying reasons for the abrupt increase in commodity prices.

Manufacturers present also expressed their readiness to willingness to bring down the prices in future as soon as the federal government intervention are fulfilled.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara this afternoon received super eagles goal keeper Stanley Nwabali. The Governor conferred on the Super Eagles stopper, the second highest honour of Distinguished Service Star award.

Nwabali also got 20 million naira reward from Governor Fubara for making the state proud in the just concluded AFCON.

Iria Ceremony: Young Virgins Initiated Into Womanhood In Ogu town, Rivers State

This is the Iria Ceremony of the Wakirike people which held yesterday in Ogu Town, Ogu/Bolo LGA, of Rivers State. The Iria, is an ancient ceremony that marks the transition of girls who are usually virgins into womanhood.

To pass through the test, the girls must first be virgins which will be checked by women of the town. This is the age that they believe is right for marriage. Soon after they have to undergo a painful installation of brass-ring leggings. These limit leg movements for 3 weeks while each celebrant is fed well and fattened in a confined room while they are being trained on womanhood ethics preparing them for marriage.

After passing through this process, the qualified girls will be given certificates by the Ogu council of chiefs showing that they are now adult ladies ready to marry.

This ceremony dates back to the 17th century.

RITUAL: Man arrested for allegedly killing girlfriend in Rivers A Suspected Yahoo boy identified as Collins has been arrested for killing his girlfriend identified as Otuene Justina Nkang, a 300–level student of the University of Port Harcourt along Road 15, NTA Road, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It was gathered that Collins was caught by his estate’s security personnel when he was trying to dispose her corpse after slaughtering her and extracting her body parts. Following the alarm raised by the security personnel, eyewitnesses stormed the suspect’s apartment and found Justina’s slaughtered body parts in sacks dripping with blood. He was whisked to the police station while the deceased’s body parts were taken to the morgue.
