Forensic Auditors Appointed By Otti Unravels How Immediate Past Govt Paid N107.2bn To 72 Contractors For Non-Existent Abia Airport, Other Projects
A forensic audit conducted by an audit firm has revealed how the immediate past government of Abia State approved funds to contractors for the construction of non-existent state-owned airport and other infrastructure.
The Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti made the revelation during a presentation at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Washington DC, United States.
He spoke on the theme, ‘Dynamics of State Governance, Economic Transition and the Challenges of Seeking to Establish a New Order Amidst Multiple Constraints and Pushbacks.’
Gov. Otti said it is difficult to admit how some Nigerian leaders contest elections for reasons shrouded in corruption.
The governor who took over from Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023 explained that some politicians have abused the privilege of governance thereby impoverishing their states.
Gov. Otti explained how he engaged one of the top audit firms to examine the state accounts, adding that the auditor uncovered several deals that are shrouded in corruption.
He said, “Talking about corruption, I set up a forensic audit as soon as I took over last year in Abia so that there won’t be any argument, I called in one of the top three audit firms in the world and not too long ago, they sent in their report and some of the things in the report are frightening.
“So, N79.3bn was paid to seven contractors for contracts that were not executed at all up till today. Another N15.9bn- almost N16bn was paid to 63 contractors with no supporting documents anywhere in the State.

ABIA SET TO ESTABLISH FIRST NATIONAL PARK IN SOUTH EAST
The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has expressed the desire of the state government to establish a National Park in the State. The Governor stated this during a courtesy visit by the Conservator General, National Park, Abuja, and his entourage at Government House Umuahia.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, FNSE, expressed total commitment of the state government to establishing a National Park in the state to promote tourism, ensure job creation, reduce youth restiveness as well as promote local contractors engagement. This he said, translates to increased internally generated revenue for the state. Emetu thanked the Conservator General for his earnest concern for the establishment of a National Park in Abia State, a first of its kind in the South Eastern Geo-political zone of Nigeria.
Earlier in his speech, the Conservator General, National Park, Abuja, Dr. Ibrahim Goni, said that the South East is the only zone in Nigeria that does not have a National Park and expressed confidence in Dr. Otti's led government to be the first to raise the flag of National Park in the South East by ensuring the establishment of a National Park in the South Eastern part of the country as soon as possible.
The Conservator General listed the pros of having a National Park in the state to include; the provision of employment opportunities, establishment of a serene vegetation, protection of the environment, regeneration and afforestation, and the encouragement of animal immigration. He subsequently, presented to the Governor, a plague in recognition of his ardent contribution to national growth.

ABSG has commenced the second phase of the 'Light Up Abia Initiative' which includes roads and streets such as Georges Street, Park Road, Aba Owerri road - from Osisioma to MCC road junction among others in Aba and Orie Ugba - Post office, Afara technical to Okpara avenue, State secretariat and Ministry of Women Affairs in Umuahia.
The initiative is expected to cover places the lights are not glowing as upto the standard expected of them.

In 2015, ABSU was ranked 36 out of the 100 universities in Nigeria.
In 2019, ABSU was ranked 39.
In 2020, ABSU was ranked 41.
In 2021, ABSU was left at 66
Today, ABSU has been Ranked As The 16th Overall Best University And The 2nd Best State University In Nigeria by Times Global Education Ranking.

ABSG is set to activate it's plan to make Umuahia a smart city. The Commissioner for Information made it known that government would soon activate its plans to redesign and beautify the Isigate area of the state capital and make it fit for a smart city.
"This plan has been on the drawing board for quite awhile but in the coming months, government will take its plans off the drawing board. A committee has all the while been working towards providing solutions that would make that part of the state capital look better than it actually does now"

ABSG has awarded the contract for the establishment and construction of an ultra modern bus terminal where all types of transportation empties into in Umuahia Metropolis to enhance the esthetics of the city and ensure a level of sanity in the transportation sector.

Apparently, for 9 years, a civil law case has been going on against Coca Cola Bottling Company, manufacturers of Fanta and Sprite,
That impacts directly on our health and lives.
Let me try and paraphrase it, so una no go sleep off.
Basically, one Dr Fijabi, had in 2007, bought about N12 million worth of Fanta and Sprite drinks from Coca Cola Ltd, and exported same to the United Kingdom.
However, on reaching England, under Health and Safety regulations, the authorities tested the products and found them to contain "poisonous levels of Benzoic Acid and Sunset addictives"
And were therefore declared "unfit for human consumption".
The whole export consignment was consequently destroyed.
Dr Fijabi therefore, sued Coca Cola for Negligence, breach of duty of care to its customers, and loss of earnings.
Fine.
Now comes the interesting part, so sit your yansh well :
The Almighty Coca Cola only offered one defence in court :
That Mr Fijabi did not tell them he was going to Export the Fanta and Sprite to England;
That they were indeed manufactured "FOR LOCAL CONSUMPTION".
What???
For local consumption?

So what Coca Cola bottling company is telling us, is that,
If they knew the Fanta and Sprite were to be exported to England, they would not have added so much poisonous acid;
But for the people of Nigeria, it is normal to poison us.

Yesterday, The Lagos High Court under Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, was 'crying' when he gave judgement against Coca Cola, declaring them callous and negligent.
He 'cursed the parents' of NAFDAC for not carrying out proper laboratory checks on 'minerals' production in Nigeria.
Cancer was listed as one of the ailments that the present Fanta and sprite can cause, especially if taken with Vitamin C tablets.
He therefore, ordered Coca Cola to henceforth add a WRITTEN WARNING on Fanta and Sprite bottles that "this product must not be taken with Vitamin C."
Once again, Oyinbo has come to our rescue.
This is stuff you people in Nigeria should concern yourselves about,

Members of Concerned Abia Pensioners convened in gratitude, hosting a thanksgiving ceremony to express appreciation for answered prayers.
The gov't of Abia State in collaboration with ANPA is currently carrying out over 2000 free medical surgeries and other medical services to patients of various illnesses across the state.
The program is expected to run from 4/4 to 14/4/24.

I'm Happy With What is Happening in Abia Today Under Governor Otti, APC Chieftain, Prince BB Apugo Declares.
A National Board of Trustees (BOT) Member and member of the National Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from Abia state, Prince BB Apugo has poured encomium on the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti over his giant strides in the governance of the state.
Prince Apugo spoke during a private visit to the Governor at his home in Nvosi, Isialangwa LGA of the state.
The APC chieftain who publicly declared his stand during the election and supported Governor Otti, expressed joy that Governor Otti's performance has vindicated him, and expressed confidence that the Abia Chief Executive would record more positive results in the governance of the state, restating his position that he (Prince Apugo) is more interested in governance and performance, than partisanship.
"My party does not mean anything to me, I am a chieftain of the APC. My concern is my state. Today, I am happy about what is happening in my state.
"Before Governor Otti won the election, I told Abia people to vote for him, not minding the position I am holding in my party.
"I never bothered about the (governorship) candidate of the APC. We had none. I told Abia people that this man (Governor Otti) will bring us back to life. That's what I told them, and all of them listened to me. And what I said that time, it's no longer myself alone now that is saying it. Everybody is saying that Abia has come to stay," the statesman submitted.
He regretted the alleged looting of the state by previous governments, and expressed joy that Governor Otti has done what he (Apugo) expected from him and would do much more.

WE ALIGN WITH PRESIDENT TINUBU'S POLICY ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING - GOV OTTI
Abia State Government says its policy on housing is in agreement with that of the Federal Government for the country.
Governor Alex Otti, OFR, who made the position of the state known, said Abia is in alignment with President Bola Tinubu's vision on provision of affordable housing to Nigerians.
The Governor spoke when received in audience, a delegation of the Federal Housing Authority led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Rt. Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, who visited him on Tuesday.
Governor Otti said that his administration would show sufficient interest in the proposed federal housing project in Abia, stressing that the importance of shelter, which is one of the three most basic needs of man, cannot be over emphasised.
He disclosed that his administration had already identified a location as it had been working on the idea of a diaspora village in the state, which is also one of the propositions of the Federal Government's housing programme.
He thanked the President for the decision to ensure that Nigerians have roofs over their heads and particularly for assuring that contractors for the ex*****on of the federal housing project would be sourced from within the benefitting states.
He equally expressed joy that the Federal Housing Authority would be consulting with states to know what exactly the people want in terms of housing, adding that it is the best approach for achieving an acceptable housing project.
"Please give our regards to Mr. President and reassure him that where housing is on his vision is also where housing is on our vision here. So, we're aligned.
"I also want to thank you for not just imposing on people, but recognising the differences in culture and lifestyles. We are the same but again different people, and we must respect our choices. So, for respecting those choices and consulting on what the people want, I want to say, thank you.
"I also want to thank you for your decision to ensure that the contractors are local. Before now, schemes like these are used to settle boys, settle interests and all that, but you now bringing it home to say that the contractors must come from here (Abia) and we take responsibility, places a burden on those that are going to recommend the contractors because if you don't recommend the right contractors, you're going to live with it.
"For us, it's so critical and that is why anything we're doing, we must use the best, and sometimes people say it's expensive. But just like the wise saying, if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. So, when you take half baked contractors, they would produce half baked jobs," Governor Otti explained.
Earlier, Hon. Ojo stated that housing was key to President Tinubu's administration. He told the Governor that his team's visit to Abia was to intimate the Governor on the proposal of the Federal Government to acquire land and build affordable houses for Abians.
He said the President identified that there was deficiency in shelter in Nigeria and he is willing to provide affordable housing for Nigerians.
According to him, the plan is to meet with state Governors and design together, the kind of housing to be built in each state, saying that the inputs of the Governors are important to the project.
The FHA Chief Executive, who came in company of the former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, was accompanied on his visit by some senior management team of the agency.

Otti stops over at Ugwu Mkpa, Bende L.G.A,as his convoy meets an unexpected crowd whom were overwhelminly joyous on the transformative reconstruction going on at their only access road which was long forgone and forgotten, this strategic road which has been impassable for decades in the past was a near death hill that commuters dares not to ply through, but today, the hills are no more as it has been totally leveled down, drainages constructed while awaiting asphalting all these were made possible by Gov. Today, 28th January 2024..After church service, the governor visited Ahia Ohuru to access the damage of the fire incident on Saturday night, gutted some shops at line 6/7 of the market. Governor Otti commiserated with the victims and assured of government prompt intervention and precautionary measures to avert such from happening again. The governor also assured the victims, that the government will restructure the market to fit in to the template on how a modernised market should be. It's crystal clear that this government is not a side walk administration. We are witnessing a government that works for the people and create benefits for its citizens. Certainly...It's A New Abia.
