*RESUMPTION NOTICE FOR THE APOSTOLIC SECONDARY GRAMMAR SCHOOL UGEP*

We are pleased to announce that the resumption date for the second term of the 2024/2025 session at The Apostolic Secondary Grammar School Ugep is Monday, 6th of January 2025.

*PREPARATIONS FOR RESUMPTION*

We encourage all parents to use this weekend to prepare their children for resumption by:

- Ensuring their uniforms are in good condition and replacing torn ones
- Obtaining the required kits, including blue socks, black belts, and black sandals
- Purchasing the necessary learning materials
- Paying all outstanding fees, including school fees, lesson fees, exam fees, and other charges

*IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PARENTS*

Please note that classes will commence immediately upon resumption, and we will not tolerate any delays. Parents who traditionally keep their children at home for a week after resumption will be at a disadvantage, as our school premises will be clean and ready for teaching and learning.

*TEACHERS' PRE-RESUMPTION MEETING*

A mandatory pre-resumption meeting was held today, 3rd of January 2025, at 10am for all teachers. Our teachers are ready to commence teaching on Monday, and we are committed to providing a thorough and rigorous education for our students.

*INSPECTION OF NOTEBOOKS AND TEXTBOOKS*

We will be conducting a thorough inspection of the required number of notebooks and textbooks as outlined in the recommended list of books. We expect all students to come prepared with the necessary materials.

*WELCOME BACK*

We wish all our students and staff a happy resumption on Monday, 6th of January 2025. We are excited to start the new term and look forward to a productive and successful session.

UGEP PEACE ANGELS FC CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF FEMALE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN YAKURR

In an exciting and closely contested final match, Ugep Peace Angels FC emerged victorious in the female football tournament organized by Liman Iwara Foundation
in collaboration with GETTAH team within teams in Yakurr. The tournament, which brought together some of the best female football teams in the local government area, was a thrilling display of skill, determination, and teamwork.

The final match between Ugep Peace Angels FC and Ekori Mighty Queen FC ended in a goalless draw, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but unable to find the back of the net. The match was decided by a penalty shootout, with Ugep Peace Angels FC scoring 3 goals and missing 2, while Ekori Mighty Queen FC scored 2 goals and missed 3.

The hero of the match was undoubtedly Favour Ebri, the Ugep Peace Angels FC goalkeeper, who saved an impressive 3 penalty goals to secure the win for her team. Her outstanding performance earned her the award for Best Keeper of the tournament.

Another standout player was Favour Ofem, a skilled and relentless striker who played a crucial role in Ugep Peace Angels FC's success throughout the tournament. Her impressive goal-scoring record earned her the award for Highest Goal Scorer of the tournament.

THIRD PLACE WINNERS: ANGEL STARS OF NKO

In the third-place match, Angel Stars of Nko emerged victorious, defeating Assiga Female team in a closely contested encounter. The win was a testament to the team's determination and skill.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

The tournament organizers, Liman Iwara Foundation and GETTAH team, presented awards to the winners and outstanding players of the tournament. The awards included:

1. *Champions*: Ugep Peace Angels FC
2. *Runners-up*: Ekori Mighty Queen FC

The coach of Ugep Peace Angels FC, Coach's George, expressed his pride and satisfaction with his team's performance, saying, "We worked hard as a team and our strategy paid off. *CALABAR CARNIVAL 2024: YAKURR, CALAS VEGAS, AND AKWA IBOM STATE EMERGE AS TOP WINNERS*

The 2024 Calabar Carnival has come to a close, and the results are in! The highly anticipated event, which showcased the rich cultural heritage and creativity of various local governments, states, and carnival bands, was a huge success.

In the Local Government Carnival category, Yakurr Local Government Area took the top spot, with Calabar South and Odukpani Local Government Area coming in second and third, respectively. The Yakurr team wowed the judges with their impressive display of cultural heritage, music, and dance, earning them the coveted first prize.

The Senior Carnival category saw Calas Vegas emerge as the winner, with Seagull and Freedom Band taking second and third place, respectively. Calas Vegas's stunning costumes, energetic performances, and creative themes impressed the judges and spectators alike, securing their position as the top senior carnival band.

In the Children's Carnival category, Calas Vegas once again took the top spot, with Seagull and Bayside Band coming in second and third, respectively. The children's carnival was a highlight of the event, with young performers showcasing their talents and creativity in a fun and exciting display.

The Cultural/State Carnival category saw Akwa Ibom State take the top prize, with Osun State and Delta State coming in second and third, respectively. The Akwa Ibom State team impressed the judges with their rich cultural heritage, traditional music, and dance, earning them the coveted first prize.

The 2024 Calabar Carnival was a huge success, with thousands of spectators attending the event and enjoying the music, dance, and cultural displays. The carnival has once again proven to be a platform for promoting cultural exchange, creativity, and community engagement.

TRAGEDY STRIKES ON CHRISTMAS DAY: 5-YEAR-OLD TRUSTGOD DANIEL OFEM DROWNS IN WELL IN UGEP

A devastating incident occurred on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, in the family of Mr. Daniel Obono Ofem, the younger brother of High Chief Nelson Obono Ofem. The family is mourning the loss of their 5-year-old son, TrustGod Daniel Ofem, who tragically fell into a well and died before help could arrive.

According to reports, TrustGod was taken out for a visit with his mother when the unfortunate incident occurred. Despite efforts to rescue him, the little boy was unable to survive the ordeal and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father, Mr. Daniel Obono Ofem, took to his page to express his grief and solicit prayers from friends and family. In a heartbreaking post, he wrote: "I'm saddened. Please say a word of prayer for me. I lost my son yesterday 25th Dec, his name TrustGod, 5yrs. He was taken out for a visit with the Mum. TrustGod eventually fell into a well of water, drawn and died before help could come. Please put me in prayer."

The news of TrustGod's passing has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing their condolences and support for the grieving family. The little boy was laid to rest in his family compound today, surrounded by loved ones and mourners.

COMMUNITY MOURNS THE LOSS OF A YOUNG LIFE
The incident has raised concerns about the importance of ensuring the safety of children, particularly in environments where hazards such as wells and other bodies of water are present. The community is coming together to support the Ofem family during this difficult time, offering prayers, condolences, and assistance in any way possible.

*Senator Eteng Williams Tackles Child Trafficking with Training Initiative, Empowers 150 Youths with N100,000 Grant*

The National Productivity Centre (NPC) and Senator Eteng Jonah Williams of Cross River Central Senatorial District jointly organized a two-day training on child trafficking in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area.

Held at Yakurr Guest House from November 18-19, 2024, the training brought together over 150 participants from Abi and Yakurr local government areas.

Renowned resource persons, Elder Barrister Ofem O.Mbang and CSP Obeten Uket (Rtd) enlightened participants on various aspects of child trafficking.

Each participant received a ₦100,000 start-up package. The training aimed to combat child trafficking in the community.

Beneficiaries praised Senator Eteng Williams, promising to disseminate the knowledge in schools, churches, markets, and families. Odey Ojeka, a participant from Ijiman, Ugep vowed to sensitize students, while another participant from Usumotung/Abeugo in Abi Local Government Area, Eko Ikpai Eja hailed Senator Eteng as one of the best Senator Cross River State Central Senatorial District has produced.

This initiative underscores Senator Eteng's commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and promoting community awareness.
