*Enugu Gov’t, Sepat Pharmaceuticals flag off free screening for hepatitis*

The Enugu State government on Tuesday flagged off free hepatitis B and C screening in collaboration with Sepat Pharmaceuticals Ltd with the aim of eliminating the diseases and controlling their spread in the state and country at large.

The State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ikechukwu Obi flagged off the free screening exercise at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane, Enugu, on Tuesday.

Insisting that the state must take advantage of the free screening to be conducted by Sepat Pharmaceuticals Ltd from 19th to 24th March, Prof Obi said it was not only for the early detection of the diseases but would also serve as a means of data collection and help in the fight against the viral diseases in the state.

"What we are here to address today is a disease that can go to your liver which is the engine of every human and start destroying it silently. The spectrum of medical and healthcare involves health promotion, health prevention, and treatment. .

"We will put hepatitis B and C at the front burner, and see how this silent killer can be put in abeyance in our state.

"The governor approved that it would be nice to have a situation where beyond carrying out free testing, it would be possible for the Ministry of Health to get very useful data which is even lacking at the national level. We are going to collect hard data which will help in making hard and necessary decisions that will save lives and our partners have also said they will also subsidize certain aspects of the treatment for hepatitis C patients that would be discovered within the period of the free screening,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Sepat Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Dr. Pat Oramah, who lamented the rising scourge of hepatitis B and C among many Nigerians, said investing and encouraging promotional awareness for free screening was not only the right thing to do but

A King had a male servant who in all circumstances always told him; My King, do not be discouraged because *God never makes mistakes*. One day they went hunting and a wild animal attacked the king, the servant managed to kill the animal but couldn't save his majesty from losing a finger. Furious and without showing gratitude, the King said; If God was good, I wouldn't have been attacked and lost a finger. The servant answered: 'despite all these things, I can only tell you that God is good and everything he does is perfect, he is never wrong'. Outraged by the response, the king ordered the arrest of his servant. While he was taken to prison, he again said to the king: God is good and perfect. Another day, the king went alone for another hunt and was captured by savages who use human beings for sacrifice. On the altar, the savages discovered that the king did not have a finger in place, he was freed because he was not considered "complete" to be offered to the gods. On his return to the palace, he ordered the release of his servant and said; My friend, God was really good to me. I was almost killed but for lack of a single finger, I was let go. But I have a question; If God is so good, why did he allow me to put you in prison? His servant answered; My king, if I hadn't been put in prison, I would have gone with you, and I would have been sacrificed, because I don't have a missing finger. Everything God does is perfect, he is never wrong. Often we complain about life, and the negative things that happen to us, forgetting that everything happens for a purpose. THE FACT ABOUT CENTENARY ESTATE ENUGU

Private Estates West Africa Limited is the company that owns and developed Centenary City. It has a C of O granted in 2009 over the land in question. It is over 1000 hectares and was given to develop a new city with a golf course, independent water and electricity supply etc.
When the previous government purported to revoke the C of O in 2019, the company went to court.

In the meantime in spite of numerous public warnings, the natives invaded the land and were selling to buyers who were duly warned once they took possession, not to enter the land or put up structures thereon.
Some listened. Others did not and went on to put up buildings on the land without building approvals. These persons usually have no registered title over the land they built on.
Before the previous government left power, a settlement was arrived at with the company that owns and the revocation of the C of O (which was in the first place illegal) was withdrawn and set aside.
The persons who had built on the land still refused to come to the Company to settle and when they could not show building approvals they were asked to remove the structures they had erected on the land.
Governor Peter Mbah has nothing at all to do with Centenary City or the demolitions taking place therein.
