We are devastated to hear that 61 people drowned off the coast of Libya this morning. The boat had departed from Zuwara, Libya with 86 people on board. Watch The Med - Alarm Phone reports that the people on board reached out to them. Watch The Med - Alarm Phone then contacted the authorities, including the so-called Libyan Coastguard, who replied that they were not looking for the boat. The only ship in operation was 12 hours away. So no one came to rescue the people.
According to the report, 25 people later were rescued from a merchant vessel and illegally taken to a detention center in Libya.
Our thoughts are with the survivors and families who have lost a loved one.
We will never tire of writing, Europe, your borders kill!
