JUST IN: Police begin probe of arson, killings in Rivers LGs

The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the post-election violence that rocked several local government areas of the state, leading to the loss of life and the razing of three LGAs on Monday.

The Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Mohammed, disclosed this while answering questions from journalists after an on-the-spot assessment of the three affected LGAs on Wednesday.

Mohammed also revealed that a high-powered investigation team of seasoned police officers, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, has been assigned the task, adding that their report will be submitted to the IGP upon completion of their findings.

JUST IN: OBIO/AKPOR CHAIRMAN RECEIVES THE RIVERS STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE AT THE COUNCIL SECRETARIAT

The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo has received the new Commissioner of Police deployed to Rivers State, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, at the Council Secretariat.

The visit of the Commissioner of Police was in connection with the recent political happenings in Rivers State.

In his speech, the new Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, expressed the neutrality of Police under his watch in the political happenings in Rivers State.

He said the purpose of his visit to the Executive Chairman was to ascertain the situation at the council. He highlighted the importance of peace in the area, while calling on everyone to remain calm.

The new CP wished the Executive Chairman well in his endeavor, and assured the Executive Chairman of the police readiness to provide maximum security in the area.

In his remark, the Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo thanked the new Commissioner of Police for visiting him at the Council.

He assured the new Commissioner of Police that the council will work in synergy with the police to maintain law and order in the local government.
